El control por un planeta de arena será el motivo del comienzo de una guerra de poderes..."Dune"
Cuando era niño pude descubrir el cine de ciencia ficción por películas como Star Wars y Back to the Future, pero hubo una que también puedo anexar a esa lista, esa fue "Dune" dirigida por David Lynch, a tan temprana edad no sabía que está historia era basada en una novela de 1965 escrita por Frank Herbert y mucho menos de la calidad del director y que no fue un éxito en taquilla, pero nada de eso era importante para mí, yo de igual forma aprecie todo lo que veía, entre las muchas escenas en un planeta desértico en dónde existían los llamados "Gusanos de Arena" los cuales tenían mucha importancia en la historia, creo que la historia de su personaje principal era muy importante por su aspecto y sus ideas de ser un salvador, pero de niño siempre la encontré muy parecida a lo que fue la historia creada por George Lucas y por eso es que pude aceptarla como al final ha sucedido con muchas personas que la han considerado como un film de culto; creo que por eso desde el momento que se dio la noticia de volver a llevar a la gran pantalla a esta gran historia y por todas las personas involucradas, inmediatamente se volvió una película que de forma obligatoria debería de ver, sin ninguna duda tenía grandes expectativas como seguramente muchas otras personas.

When I was a kid I could discover science fiction by movies like Star Wars and Back to the Future, but there was one that I can also attach to that list, that was "Dune" directed by David Lynch, at such a young age I did not know that this story was based on a 1965 novel written by Frank Herbert and much less of the quality of the director and that it was not a box office success, but none of that was important to me, I equally appreciated everything I saw, among the many scenes on a desert planet where there were the so-called "Sandworms" which were very important in the story, I think the story of the main character was very important for his appearance and his ideas of being a savior, but as a child I always found it very similar to what was the story created by George Lucas and that's why I could accept it as in the end has happened to many people who have considered it as a cult film; I think that's why from the moment the news of bringing back to the big screen this great story and all the people involved, immediately became a film that I should see, without any doubt I had great expectations as surely many other people.
"Dune" es una épica historia sobre el poder, de mantener y obtener más poder, pero también es sobre esperanza, religión, creencias y de cómo todo eso puede influir en querer un cambio a mejor; está batalla de poderes llegará a un punto de inflexión cuando dos casas, Atreides y Harkonnen, sean usadas por un poder mayor, para crear una lucha en dónde al final se podrá desencadenar la llegada de un mesías que cambiará el rumbo para todos.
"Dune" is an epic story about power, about maintaining and gaining more power, but it is also about hope, religion, beliefs and how all of that can influence wanting a change for the better; this battle of powers will reach a turning point when two houses, Atreides and Harkonnen, are used by a greater power to create a clash that will ultimately lead to the arrival of a messiah who will change the course for all.
Una de las cosas que me gustó de ver en la versión del 84' fue justamente la historia de su protagonista, la historia de "Paul Atreides", me gustó mucho como su personaje evoluciona de ser alguien perteneciente a una realeza y que después de perder todo debe surgir hasta transformarse en alguien muy importante para esta historia, la imagen y el poder que demuestra Paul al final de ese film fue algo que me llamó la atención y es que como muchas otras historias, otros films en dónde se usa de base la historia creada por el mitólogo Joseph Campbell llamada "El Viaje del Héroe", Dune también vemos está misma estructura para el relato de lo que debe vivir Paul para poder transformarse en un Mesías, quiero enfocarme primero que nada en este personaje porque sin ninguna duda está primera parte está relatada desde el punto de vista del primogénito de "Leto Atreides"; como dije anteriormente el viaje del héroe es muy influyente en este film, creo que la diferencia entre otras películas como por ejemplo Star Wars, es que su personaje principal tiene desde el comienzo la noción de saber quién es y de quién deberá transformarse, en otros films como The Matrix podemos ver una fuerte influencia que tiene Dune porque justamente su personaje principal será reconocido como el salvador desde un principio, ahora en este film veremos la presión e importancia de creer en una profecía, la religión es importante y al ver alguna señal que confirme que Paul es quien se espera que sea eso aumentara el fanatismo en un mundo entero, esto es algo fascinante igual el contar con alguien con un aspecto tan joven como lo tiene Timothée Chalamet, un aspecto el cual nadie espera que tenga el poder, la fuerza y la experiencia para poder ser un líder y eso es lo que piensa este personaje en este film, él tiene en su mente que tal vez no tenga lo adecuado para poder dirigir a su casa ni mucho menos liberar a Arrakis, el aspecto es fundamental para este tipo de historias, creo que esto hace que exista más accesibilidad y le da mucha importancia a esta historia, un joven perteneciente a la realeza, que pierde todos, que no es visto como una amenaza por los poderosos, pero para los necesitados él significará la salvación aunque existan quien refutan sobre si es o no el elegido, todo esto sucede gracias a como es el físico de un personaje, algo tan simple y a la vez tan importante porque creo que si tuviéramos a un actor fornido interpretando a Paul, no tendría el mismo peso que ver a Chamalet sobreponerse a cualquier prueba para poder sobrevivir, la decisión de contar con este joven y ya experimentado actor fue un gran acierto para que protagonice este film, su aspecto y su actuación le da credibilidad a todo este viaje que debe hacer Paul para que termine siendo lo que muchos esperan.
One of the things I liked to see in the 84' version was precisely the story of its protagonist, the story of "Paul Atreides", I really liked how his character evolves from being someone belonging to a royalty and that after losing everything must emerge to become someone very important for this story, the image and the power that Paul shows at the end of that film was something that caught my attention and is that like many other stories, other films where the story created by the mythologist Joseph Campbell called "The Hero's Journey" is used as a base, Dune we also see this same structure for the story of what Paul must live to be able to become a Messiah, I want to focus first of all on this character because without any doubt this first part is told from the point of view of the firstborn of "Leto Atreides"; as I said before the hero's journey is very influential in this film, I think the difference between other films like Star Wars, for example, is that its main character has from the beginning the notion of knowing who he is and who he should transform, in other films like The Matrix we can see a strong influence that Dune has because its main character will be recognized as the savior from the beginning, now in this film we will see the pressure and importance of believing in a prophecy, religion is important and to see any sign that confirms that Paul is who is expected to be that will increase fanaticism in an entire world, this is something fascinating as well as having someone with such a young appearance as it has Timothée Chalamet, an aspect which no one expects to have the power, strength and experience to be a leader and that is what this character thinks in this film, he has in his mind that he may not have the right stuff to be able to lead his house and even less to free Arrakis, the aspect is fundamental for this kind of stories, I think this makes more accessibility and gives a lot of importance to this story, a young man belonging to the royalty, who loses all, who is not seen as a threat by the powerful, but for the needy he will mean salvation although there are those who refute if he is the chosen one or not, all this happens thanks to the physicality of a character, something so simple and yet so important because I think that if we had a stocky actor playing Paul, it would not have the same weight as seeing Chamalet overcome any test to survive, the decision to have this young and experienced actor was a great success to star in this film, his appearance and his performance gives credibility to all this journey that Paul must make to end up being what many expect.
Está primera parte vista desde los ojos de Paul, puede ser considerada densa o lenta, es una larga representación, introducción a todo el mundo que nos ofrece está historia, la gran cantidad de personajes que aparecen puede ser algo que puede hacer sentir al espectador como perdido porque su importancia o su desarrollo no será visto en la más de dos horas de duración que tiene esta película, esto podrá crear frustración en las personas que ven y es por eso que en muchas reseñas se termina enfocando en el trabajo del director, la cinematografía y por supuesto la música, yo creo que por momentos se puede perder la importancia de la historia en dónde cómo es una lucha para obtener más poder, está llena de una batalla de inteligencia, es un juego mortal de ajedrez en dónde cada quien trata de mover sus piezas para por supuesto ganar, al final este juego no es entre dos sino entre muchos más y también están los que mueven piezas desde la oscuridad, esto me gustó mucho, tener el suspenso de saber quién es aliado o enemigo ayuda mucho a tener una historia en dónde potencia mucho más el trama principal y no convierte todo en una lucha direccional entre dos sino entre muchos más, seguramente esto potenciará a una futura tercera entrega que dependerá del estreno de ella segunda parte.
This first part seen from the eyes of Paul, can be considered dense or slow, it is a long representation, introduction to the whole world that offers us this story, the large number of characters that appear can be something that can make the viewer feel lost because its importance or its development will not be seen in the more than two hours of duration that has this film, this can create frustration in the people who see it and that is why in many reviews it ends up focusing on the work of the director, the cinematography and of course the music, I think that at times you can lose the importance of the story where how it is a battle for more power, it is full of a battle of intelligence, it is a deadly game of chess where everyone tries to move their pieces to of course win, in the end this game is not between two but between many more and there are also those who move pieces from the darkness, I liked this a lot, having the suspense of knowing who is ally or enemy helps a lot to have a story where it enhances much more the main plot and does not turn everything into a directional fight between two but between many more, surely this will enhance a future third installment that will depend on the release of the second part.
Cuando vi está primera parte de Dune, no sentí que la película le faltará algo, entendí lo hecho por Denis Villeneuve desde el primer momento de ver el título "Parte 1" sabía que esto era más que una gran presentación de estos mundos y de grandes personajes, en especial la de sus protagonistas principales que son los que se debe tener un mayor enfoque, pero lo volviendo a mis sensaciones sobre este film de igual forma al terminar de verlo sentí preocupación o temor de que esto fuera lo único que veríamos de Dune de Villeneuve, tal como sucedió con "Blade Runner 2049" la cual creo que debió tener otra historia más que contar; recuerdo que está era mi principal crítica sobre este nuevo film de ciencia ficción era no saber si se haría una continuación que cerrará este gran acto en esta larga historia, pero con el apoyo que ha tenido por parte de críticos y el público (gran apoyo en el extranjero) se ha dado luz verde para hacer otra parte más, sin duda que es una gran noticia para muchos a quienes nos gustó este film porque al contar con tan buenos profesionales en la dirección, guion y actuación, puedo ser exigente y hasta tener mayores expectativas por la próxima secuela a estrenarse en octubre del 2023 en donde la historia se desarrollará de forma diferente porque los conflictos, los enemigos aumentaran trayendo la inevitable batalla final. No tengo dudas en recomendar este film y más sabiendo que habrá otra parte más, una importante parte de esta gran historia de lucha de poderes en un mundo desértico.
When I saw this first part of Dune, I didn't feel that the film was missing something, I understood what was done by Denis Villeneuve from the first moment I saw the title "Part 1" I knew that this was more than a great presentation of these worlds and great characters, especially the main protagonists who are the ones that should have a greater focus, but going back to my feelings about this film, I still felt concern or fear that this was the only thing we would see of Villeneuve's Dune, just as it happened with "Blade Runner 2049" which I think should have had another story to tell; I remember that this was my main criticism about this new sci-fi film was not knowing if a sequel would be made to close this great act in this long story, but with the support it has had from critics and the public (great support internationally) it has been given the green light to make one more part, no doubt it is great news for many of us who liked this film because having such good professionals in the direction, script and acting, I can be demanding and even have higher expectations for the next sequel to be released in October 2023 where the story will develop differently because the conflicts, the enemies will increase bringing the inevitable final battle. I have no hesitation in recommending this film and more knowing that there will be one more part, an important part of this great story of power struggle in a desert world.
