Siempre he sentido una atracción por películas que son sobre venganza, eran las favoritas de mi padre y a pesar de no tener la edad para ver muchas de estos films siempre terminaba viéndolas; películas como "Death Wish" protagonizada por Charles Bronson, junto a sus muchas secuelas era una de las que más veía mi padre, hubo otros films como "Ms.45" también conocida como "Angel of Vengeance" que contaba la historia de una mujer muda violada y que al no obtener justicia la busca por sus propias manos, estas eran películas duras y reales en dónde el sistema y la sociedad falla a las víctimas, esto siempre me ha hecho pensar que lamentablemente existe el personaje afectado que debe transformarse en algo para enfrentar sus traumas, sus miedos y hacer que más nunca nadie viva lo que ellos han vivido, es por eso que este nuevo film estrenado hace más de un año en el festival de Sundance era uno de los cuales más quería ver y tenía grandes expectativas porque me recordaba esos films de los 80s en donde un terrible hecho puede cambiar la perspectiva de la vida a una persona.

I have always felt an attraction for movies that are about revenge, they were my father's favorites and even though I was not old enough to see many of these films I always ended up watching them; movies like "Death Wish" starring Charles Bronson, along with its many sequels was one of the most watched by my father, there were other films like "Ms.45" also known as "Angel of Vengeance" which told the story of a mute woman who is raped and when she doesn't get justice she seeks it by her own hands, these were hard and real movies where the system and society fails the victims, this has always made me think that unfortunately there is the affected character who must transform into something to face her traumas, That is why this new film premiered more than a year ago at the Sundance Film Festival was one of the films I most wanted to see and I had great expectations because it reminded me of those films of the 80s where a terrible event can change the perspective of a person's life.
Promising Young Woman relata la historia de "Cassie" una mujer que vive de una forma que nadie esperaba; en las noches asiste a Clubes Nocturnos haciéndose pasar como una mujer ebria y vulnerable, buscando que hombre quiera aprovechar esta situación para después dejarlo en evidencia, puede ser un tipo de justicia no perfecta, pero toda esta gana de castigar aumentara cuando se entera que un abusador quien conoció en la universidad regresa viviendo una vida ejemplar mientras ella debe convivir con un triste trauma, es ese el momento que Cassie piense en hacer la justicia que el sistema le negó, de una forma u otra.
Promising Young Woman tells the story of "Cassie" a woman who lives in a way that no one expected; At night she attends nightclubs pretending to be a drunk and vulnerable woman, looking for a man who wants to take advantage of this situation and then leave him in evidence, it may not be a perfect kind of justice, but all this desire to punish will increase when she learns that an abuser she met in college returns living an exemplary life while she must live with a sad trauma, that is the moment that Cassie thinks of doing the justice that the system denied her, one way or another.
Emerald Fennell es su debut como directora me pareció excelente, no hay una toma de la cual no disfrutará, a pesar de la mucha variedad que existen el film siempre creo buenas escenas en dónde se resalta la fotografía, hay muchas que son significativas, puedo nombrar principalmente las escenas del principio del film mostrando puntos de vista de una sola situación; al ver varias de las escenas que conforman este film sentí que pudo existir la influencia de trabajo que realiza el director danés Nicolas Winding Refn, en muchas tomas son abiertas, muy coloridas explotando la belleza de todo lo que conforman la imagen sin importar cuál era, por ejemplo en la introducción de Cassie o hasta una toma ampliada de su casa, hay hasta algunas que parecen hechas para un vídeo musical y me pareció genial.
El guion escrito por Fennell es lo mejor del film, la historia es auténtica, divertida al principio, pero en realidad es cruda, real y triste, creo que el contar una historia de víctimas de esta forma era necesario, lo impredecible de "Young Promising Woman" es lo que hace que sea impactante, creo es una excelente crítica al sistema y a la sociedad que siempre pone en duda la denuncia de la víctima y protege al abusador más cuando esté tiene recursos poderosos; este es un guion escrito de una forma muy inteligente hace ver situaciones que lamentablemente son cotidianas pasar de ser divertidas a aborrecidas, hay momentos que como hombre me preguntó ¿Por qué se debe llegar a una situación en dónde se tenga que violar la intimidad de otra persona? ¿Por qué en temor de ser catalogados como menos hombre tengo que hacer algo grotesco? Esto es lo que encuentro inteligente del guion, te hace plantear muchas cosas que vemos y que de seguro (para mal) seguirán sucediendo.

The script written by Fennell is the best of the film, the story is authentic, funny at the beginning, but in reality it is raw, real and sad, I think telling a victim story in this way was necessary, the unpredictability of "Young Promising Woman" is what makes it shocking, I think it is an excellent criticism of the system and society that always doubts the victim's complaint and protects the abuser more when he has powerful resources; This is a script written in a very intelligent way, it makes us see situations that unfortunately are quotidian and go from being funny to abhorred, there are moments that as a man I asked myself: Why should we reach a situation where we have to violate the privacy of another person? Why in fear of being labeled as less of a man do I have to do something grotesque? This is what I find intelligent about the script, it makes you consider many things that we see and that surely (for the worse) will continue to happen.
La actriz Carey Mulligan quien estuvo inactiva del cine por dos años, regresa de una forma triunfal con la actuación que nos da en esta historia, "Cassie" es un fuerte personaje, es duro ver a alguien luchar para vivir con un trauma, no superarlo ni lidiar con un trauma, es como dije anteriormente, vivir con un trauma; su actuación puedes sentirlo de ser alguien a qué no le importa nada, pero esto no es así porque Cassie es una mujer que le importa una sola cosas y es que nadie vuelva a vivir lo que ella está viviendo y busca una forma de aterrar a los que viven aterrando a mujeres inocentes, esto hace imposible no estar de lado de esta mujer, inmediatamente desde un primer momento crees en lo que ella hace, crees que lo que le sucede a los demás es justo ya que ella es una víctima de los siempre le dicen que es momento de pasar la página, olvidar lo sucedido y seguir adelante y eso no debe suceder jamás, le tome aprecio a su personaje y a su interpretación, es fuerte, triste y real como toda esta historia.
Actress Carey Mulligan who was inactive from movies for two years, returns in a triumphant way with the performance she gives us in this story, "Cassie" is a strong character, it is hard to see someone struggling to live with a trauma, not to overcome it or deal with a trauma, it is as I said before, living with a trauma; her performance can feel like someone who doesn't care about anything, but this is not so because Cassie is a woman who cares about only one thing and that is that no one should live again what she is living and she looks for a way to terrify those who live terrorizing innocent women, this makes it impossible not to be on this woman's side, immediately from the first moment you believe in what she does, you believe that what happens to others is fair since she is a victim of those who always tell her that it is time to turn the page, forget what happened and move on and that should never happen, I appreciate her character and her interpretation, it is strong, sad and real as all this story.
"Young Promising Woman" es un film que cumplió con todas las expectativas que tenía y hasta creo que más, disfrute mucho su humor y el drama, me gusta todos los personajes que aparecen porque están muy bien escritos, desde los detestables y los que demuestran que existe una vida mejor, me gustó la historia sobre la perdida de la inocencia y la esperanza de que existe un mundo mejor y lo que hace con personas que pierden absolutamente todo, me impresiono como trata el tema que las victimas pueden desconectarse del mundo, que creen que no existe nada que pueda traerlos al mundo que otros soñaban para ellos, muestra la desconexión que también ocurre con las personas que los rodean, nadie sabe cómo tratar con una persona que mentalmente está quebrada y que no quiere lidiar con la presión de la sociedad y del sistema y más cuando estos le han fallado, son muchos temas que trata este film y como ven está no es una simple película de venganza, es una crítica, es un llamado para que la sociedad sea diferente, para que se proteja a la víctima y más aún a las posibles víctimas, creo que puedo hacer un extenso film de los temas que trata una historia de dos horas de duración, pero solo me queda es aconsejarles que la vean, la analicen y disfruten tal como yo lo he hecho.
"Young Promising Woman" is a film that met all the expectations I had and even I think more, I really enjoyed its humor and drama, I like all the characters that appear because they are very well written, from the obnoxious and those who show that there is a better life, I liked the story about the loss of innocence and hope that there is a better world and what it does with people who lose absolutely everything, I was impressed how it deals with the issue that the victims can deaconectarse of the world, they believe that there is nothing that can bring them to the world that others dreamed for them, It shows the disconnection that also occurs with the people around them, no one knows how to deal with a person who is mentally broken and does not want to deal with the pressure of society and the system and more when they have failed him, there are many issues that this film deals with and as you can see this is not a simple revenge film, It is a criticism, it is a call for society to be different, to protect the victim and even more the possible victims, I think I can make a long film of the issues that deals with a story of two hours long, but I can only advise you to see it, analyze it and enjoy it as I have done.
