Debo reconocer que hace unos tres años atrás no tenía ni idea de la existencia de este personaje, pues no soy un asiduo lector de comics y Moon Knight tampoco es precisamente de los superhéroes (o antihéroes) más conocidos, pero desde que en agosto de 2019 Marvel Studios dio a conocer que uno de sus próximos proyectos estaría basado en el Caballero Luna, comencé a leer sobre sus características e historia, de lo cual me llamaron bastante la atención por un lado las similitudes con Batman que originalmente presentaba y por otro su particular condición psiquiátrica. De modo que, me pareció interesante su incorporación al Universo Cinematográfico de Marvel (UCM) y cuando me enteré de la elección del actor Oscar Isaac para interpretarlo, creció mucho mi hype por la serie que estaba en desarrollo para la plataforma de streaming Disney+, de hecho, hace aproximadamente un año publiqué por acá un artículo con todo lo que había investigado en relación a este místico vigilante.
Tanta expectativa me genero esta producción, que se convirtió en uno de los tres proyectos que más esperaba en este año 2022 junto con Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness y Thor: Love and Thunder. Ahora que la espera ha terminado y ya he podido disfrutar de los seis episodios que componen la serie, quiero compartir mis impresiones al respecto y detallar algunos aspectos que puedan motivar a quienes aún no la han visto, para que se dispongan a hacerlo. Inicialmente pretendía incluir en este mismo artículo tanto una parte de reseña sin spoilers como un análisis más profundo con spoilers incluidos, sin embargo, debido a lo extenso que terminaría siendo el post si lo hago de esa forma, mejor por el momento me limitaré a exponer de forma general de los aspectos más destacados según mi apreciación, con el fin de poner en contexto a quienes aún no han visto esta serie. Luego en otra publicación, estaré analizando los elementos más específicos de la trama con todo lujo de spoilers.
I must admit that about three years ago I had no idea of the existence of this character, because I am not a regular reader of comics and Moon Knight is not exactly one of the best-known superheroes (or antiheroes) either, but since August 2019 Marvel Studios announced that one of its next projects would be based on the Moon Knight, I began to read about its characteristics and history, which caught my attention on the one hand the similarities with Batman that it originally presented and on the other its particular psychiatric condition. So, I found his incorporation into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (UCM) interesting and when I found out about the choice of actor Oscar Isaac to play him, my hype grew a lot for the series that was in development for the Disney+ streaming platform, from In fact, about a year ago I published an article here with everything I had researched in relation to this mystical vigilante.
This production generated so much expectation that it became one of the three projects that I most expected in this year 2022 along with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder. Now that the wait is over and I have already been able to enjoy the six episodes that make up the series, I want to share my impressions on the matter and detail some aspects that may motivate those who have not yet seen it, so that they are ready to do so. Initially I intended to include in this same article both a spoiler-free review part and a deeper analysis with spoilers included, however, due to how extensive the post would end up being if I do it that way, it is better for the moment I will limit myself to exposing overview of the highlights in my opinion, in order to put in context those who have not yet seen this series. Later in another post, I'll be breaking down the more specific elements of the plot with plenty of spoilers.
Antecedentes
Antes de expresar mi opinión, hare una breve introducción respecto al personaje de comics en que se basa la serie, no considero que esto sea spoiler debido a que la serie no hace un calco exacto del comic, sino que efectúa una reinvención de su argumento. Obviamente esta es la adaptación a la pantalla del personaje conocido como Moon Knight, un antihéroe de los comics de Marvel, que apareció por primera vez en el número 32 de la publicación Werewolf by Night (Hombre lobo por la noche) como un antagonista ocasional frente al protagonista de esa historieta, pero este pronto tomo popularidad y consiguió su propia publicación, incluso llego a formar parte esporádicamente de Los Vengadores.
Sin embargo, Moon Knight nunca ha sido un personaje muy conocido, se le suele describir como el Batman de Marvel, debido a su tono oscuro, el uso de artilugios similares a los gadgets del héroe murciélago de DC y además que una de sus personalidades corresponde a un millonario Playboy similar a Bruce Wayne. Sin embargo, también posee importantes diferencias con el vigilante de Gotham, las cuales se incrementan en esta serie de TV, pues se han eliminado algunas similitudes para distanciarse de ese estigma que arrastra de personaje plagiado, una de esas peculiaridades que lo caracterizan es el vestirse con un traje blanco para que sus oponentes puedan verlo fácilmente al llegar y que el terror se apodere de ellos, pero fundamentalmente su condición mental es lo que más lo distingue.
En las historias impresas, Moon Knight es el avatar en la tierra de un dios egipcio llamado Khonshu (el dios de la luna) y el alter ego de un mercenario de nombre Marc Spector, quien, encontrándose al borde de la muerte y habiendo sido gravemente herido por su socio, acepta convertirse en el avatar de esta deidad en la tierra e impartir justicia en su nombre, a cambio de ser salvado de una muerte segura. Además, este hombre posee otras identidades como la del taxista Jake Lockley o el millonario Steven Grant, así como también asume otra “super identidad” en la que se hace llamar Mr. Knght.
Background
Before expressing my opinion, I will make a brief introduction regarding the comic character on which the series is based, I do not consider this to be a spoiler because the series does not make an exact copy of the comic, but rather reinvents its plot. Obviously this is the screen adaptation of the character known as Moon Knight, an anti-hero from Marvel comics, who first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 as an occasional antagonist opposite to the protagonist of that cartoon, but he soon gained popularity and got his own publication, even becoming part of The Avengers sporadically.
However, Moon Knight has never been a well-known character, he is often described as the Batman of Marvel, due to his dark tone, the use of gadgets similar to the gadgets of the DC bat hero and also that one of his personalities corresponds to a Playboy millionaire similar to Bruce Wayne. However, he also has important differences with the Gotham vigilante, which are increased in this TV series, since some similarities have been eliminated to distance himself from that stigma that he carries as a plagiarized character, one of those peculiarities that characterize him is dressing with a white suit so that his opponents can easily see him when he arrives and that terror seizes them, but fundamentally his mental condition is what distinguishes him the most.
In the printed stories, Moon Knight is the avatar on earth of an Egyptian god named Khonshu (the god of the moon) and the alter ego of a mercenary named Marc Spector, who, being near death and having been gravely injured by his partner, he agrees to become the avatar of this deity on earth and deliver justice on his behalf, in exchange for being saved from certain death. In addition, this man has other identities such as taxi driver Jake Lockley or millionaire Steven Grant, as well as assuming another "super identity" in which he calls himself Mr. Knght.

Estoy bastante complacido con el resultado, la serie lleno mis expectativas y me gustó mucho en todos sus aspectos, aunque creo que pudo haber sido aún mejor si se prolonga un poco más, profundizando en un par de subtramas, ya que la historia es relativamente simple, solo que la forma en que se desenvuelve la trama la vuelve bastante entretenida e intrigante; los hechos se presentan de tal forma, que resulta complejo para el espectador determinar si lo que ocurre es real o forma parte de una alucinación en la mente del personaje principal. En este sentido, la serie me recuerda ligeramente a la película Memento, debido a la incertidumbre que provoca, y también quizá en mayor medida, se me asemeja a Fragmentado, por el trastorno de identidad disociativo que padece el protagonista.
La construcción y desarrollo de los personajes me parece correcta, aun cuando más allá del arco de personaje del propio protagonista, los demás roles no presentan mayor evolución, perfectamente pudo haberse extendido en al menos un capítulo la duración de la serie, para mostrar el pasado del antagonista y también de la pareja del protagonista, eso le habría dado mayor cohesión a la historia. En lo que se refiere a las actuaciones, creo que son extraordinarias, especialmente la de Oscar Isaac, quien interpreta a más de una personalidad y a cada una de ellas le asigna un registro actoral diferente, con gestos, dialectos y comportamientos distintivos; imagino que va a ser nominado al Emmy por ese trabajo. Ethan Hawke en el papel de Arthur Harrow, realiza de igual forma una gran actuación, proporcionándole matices muy convincentes al villano, para lo cual baso parcialmente su actuación en David Koresh (Vernon Wayne Howell), el líder de una secta conocida como Los Davidianos que ocasiono un siniestro suceso en el que perdieron la vida más de 70 personas, incluidos 21 niños, en el año 1993.
Algo que en un producto de entretenimiento basado en superhéroes presenta un alto grado de importancia, son los trajes que los personajes utilizan durante sus aventuras y los poderes que poseen, en ambos casos creo que la serie cumple muy bien. Los trajes que corresponden al protagonista tienen una apariencia excelente y aunque más haya de él no hay en este respecto mucho más que mencionar, lo poco que vemos en el desarrollo de la trama en materia de vestuario, también tiene una buena estética. En cuanto a superpoderes este personaje no destaca demasiado al compararlo con otros integrantes de la extensa franquicia cinematográfica y televisiva de Marvel, pero creo que la representación de sus características de lucha es correcta, aunque pudo haberse profundizado mucho más en ese sentido, pues la serie priorizo mucho más en la introducción del personaje y sus circunstancias personales, que en exhibir sus capacidades superheroicas.
Review
I am quite pleased with the result, the series fulfilled my expectations and I really liked it in all its aspects, although I think it could have been even better if it lasted a little longer, delving into a couple of subplots, since the story is relatively simple. , only that the way the plot unfolds makes it quite entertaining and intriguing; the facts are presented in such a way that it is difficult for the viewer to determine if what is happening is real or part of a hallucination in the mind of the main character. In this sense, the series reminds me slightly of the film Memento, due to the uncertainty it provokes, and also perhaps to a greater extent, it resembles Fragmented, due to the dissociative identity disorder suffered by the protagonist.
The construction and development of the characters seems correct to me, even when beyond the character arc of the protagonist himself, the other roles do not present greater evolution, the duration of the series could perfectly have been extended in at least one chapter, to show the past of the antagonist and also of the protagonist's partner, that would have given greater cohesion to the story. As far as the performances are concerned, I think they are extraordinary, especially that of Oscar Isaac, who plays more than one personality and assigns a different acting register to each one of them, with distinctive gestures, dialects and behaviors; I imagine that he is going to be nominated for an Emmy for that work. Ethan Hawke in the role of Arthur Harrow, also performs a great performance, providing very convincing nuances to the villain, for which I partially base his performance on David Koresh (Vernon Wayne Howell), the leader of a sect known as The Branch Davidians who caused a sinister event in which more than 70 people lost their lives, including 21 children, in 1993.
Something that in an entertainment product based on superheroes presents a high degree of importance, are the costumes that the characters use during their adventures and the powers they possess, in both cases I think the series does very well. The costumes that correspond to the protagonist have an excellent appearance and although there is more to him, there is not much more to mention in this regard, the little that we see in the development of the plot in terms of costumes, also has a good aesthetic. In terms of superpowers, this character does not stand out too much when compared to other members of Marvel's extensive film and television franchise, but I think that the representation of his fighting characteristics is correct, although he could have gone much deeper in that sense, since the series I prioritize much more in the introduction of the character and his personal circumstances, than in exhibiting his superheroic abilities.
De hecho, buena parte de la serie corresponde más que a una historia de superhéroes, a una aventura mística del estilo de La Momia o Indiana Jones, mesclada por supuesto con todo lo que he mencionado antes. Así es que aborda temas propios de la mitología del antiguo Egipto, donde dioses como Khonshu tienen avatares en el plano físico para ejercer la voluntad de estos en la tierra, aspecto en el que la serie se toma importantes libertades creativas, pues entre otras cosas: eleva al estatus de diosa a Ammyt, que en realidad es una criatura mitológica encargada de devorar los corazones impuros que no consiguen superar el Juicio de Osiris en el inframundo.
Por otra parte, la superheroicidad de la serie se encuentra bastante limitada, es en la parte final cuando se da el enfrentamiento de mayor escala y se exhiben más plenamente los poderes de los personajes en conflicto, de resto las batallas son bastante escasas y breves. Es en el último episodio cuando la narrativa toma un rumbo estilístico más propio del UCM, en cambio, en los capítulos precedentes el ritmo y tono narrativo es diferente, lo cual desde mi punto de vista le da un mayor grado de versatilidad y frescura a la franquicia, tal como ya viene ocurriendo con varios de los otros proyectos de esta cuarta fase, en especial los que pertenecen al formato televisivo. Sin embargo, entiendo que para alguna parte del público, sobre todo quienes son espectadores más casuales que no son tan fanáticos de este universo sino de la acción en general, eso pueda resultar un poco negativo, pues el peso argumental en este caso recae más en el conflicto de identidad del protagonista y la lucha filosófica entre seres místicos.
In fact, a good part of the series corresponds more than to a superhero story, to a mystical adventure in the style of The Mummy or Indiana Jones, mixed of course with everything I have mentioned before. So it is that it addresses issues typical of the mythology of ancient Egypt, where gods like Khonshu have avatars in the physical plane to exercise their will on earth, an aspect in which the series takes important creative liberties, because among other things: elevates Ammyt to goddess status, who is actually a mythological creature in charge of devouring impure hearts that fail to overcome the Judgment of Osiris in the underworld.
On the other hand, the superheroicity of the series is quite limited, it is in the final part when the confrontation on a larger scale occurs and the powers of the characters in conflict are more fully exhibited, otherwise the battles are quite scarce and brief. It is in the last episode when the narrative takes a stylistic course more typical of the UCM, however, in the preceding chapters the narrative rhythm and tone is different, which from my point of view gives a greater degree of versatility and freshness to the franchise, as is already happening with several of the other projects in this fourth phase, especially those that belong to the television format. However, I understand that for some part of the public, especially those who are more casual viewers who are not so fans of this universe but of action in general, that may be a bit negative, because the plot weight in this case falls more on the identity conflict of the protagonist and the philosophical struggle between mystical beings.
Por cierto, otra cosa a tomar en consideración es que la línea divisoria entre los bandos enfrentados dentro de la trama es bastante difusa, pues se trata de una discordia ideología en la que ambas partes pretenden erradicar o al menos combatir el mal que existe en el mundo, solo que una de las posturas es más radical y choca con la moral de la otra, lo que produce una disputa entre deidades egipcias y sus respectivos representantes en el plano terrenal.
Conclusión
Creo que esta primera temporada (aunque aún no se sabe a ciencia cierta si se desarrollará una segunda o si finalmente será una serie limitada), logra darnos una visión general del origen del personaje y mostrándonos la magnitud del desorden psicológico que padece, todo realizado de muy buena forma, pero dejando mucho más aun por explorar. Por lo tanto, veo muy poco probable que no se realice una segunda temporada de Moon Kinght, donde se desarrolle aún más su situación mental y alcance un mayor control o asociación entre sus distintas personalidades, transformándose en un antihéroe más independiente. Creo que el personaje aún le resta mostrar algunos cambios y superar algunos inconvenientes, antes de convertirse en integrante de un grupo como los Midnight Sons (a los que se rumora que podrían llamarles más bien Midnight Suns, como el próximo videojuego de Firaxis Games y Marvel Games), en donde haga equipo con otros personajes importantes como Blade, Ghost Rider, Punisher...

I think that this first season (although it is not yet known for sure if a second will be developed or if it will finally be a limited series), manages to give us a general vision of the origin of the character and showing us the magnitude of the psychological disorder that he suffers, all done in a very good shape, but leaving much more to explore. Therefore, I see it very unlikely that a second season of Moon Kinght will not be made, where his mental situation is further developed and he achieves greater control or association between his different personalities, becoming a more independent anti-hero. I think the character still has to show some changes and overcome some inconveniences, before becoming a member of a group like the Midnight Sons (who are rumored to be called Midnight Suns, like the next video game from Firaxis Games and Marvel Games), where you team up with other important characters such as Blade, Ghost Rider, Punisher...
