One of the most intriguing aspects of films is their ability to convey information and also deliver entertainment whilst telling a story. Although this varies based on numerous circumstances around the sort of film, it is reasonable to conclude that films we view contribute to our ideas in some manner, whether greatly or slightly.
This is why, for example, kids oftentimes draw inspiration for their ambitions from the things they see on television. I know I have been inspired a lot by the films I saw as a kid.
However, we all agree that not every film that is worth the time, or should I say, not every film can appeal to everyone's taste. And finding the right ones could be quite a hassle sometimes, as the plethora of films we have now do not make it easier.
The Father of the Bride was suggested to me by a friend. And although I am not particularly into films of the comedy or family genres, I really could not hold back my eagerness after seeing its trailer. I was hooked by the little piece of comedy that was presented.
𝔸𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕋 𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕄𝕆𝕍𝕀𝔼
Billy Herrera is a renowned architect, and together with his wife, Ingrid, and his two daughters, Sofia and Cora, they live in a house built by Billy himself. They are an immigrant family that has gone through a lot to establish themselves in Miami.
Billy and Ingrid's marriage is hanging just by a strand, and after a year of counseling, they still come to an agreement to settle for a divorce.
Sofia, a recent law school graduate, returns home after a long absence and announces her engagement to her family. It comes as a surprise to the family. and even more so to Billy, the father. This is because of the uncertainties Billy perceives.
On the other hand, Cora, his second daughter, is rebelious about furthering her education just like her elder sister, but she insists on being a full-time fashion designer, which is all against Billy's vision for her.
While plans for the wedding are being put in place, Billy struggles to come to terms with the fact that his daughters are now women and are very much capable of making decisions for their lives.
𝕄𝕐 𝕋ℍ𝕆𝕌𝔾ℍ𝕋𝕊 & 𝕆ℙ𝕀ℕ𝕀𝕆ℕ
It's a more difficult decision to make over letting one's daughter go to clinge to another man's son forever as compared with it being the other way around. Then to then find that his daughter was the one who asked for the hand, and not the husband-to-be, even raised the whole tension for him.
Surely, as a parent, one would need to muster all the courage one can get so as to provide the necessary support for their daughter. But when their own marriage hangs in the balance, things may begin to fall apart more quickly.
Father of the Bride portrays the propensity a man would follow with intentions of providing his children with a life better than his experiend. It also gives quite the sufficient depiction of the cuban family lifestyle and the life of an immigrant family.
Following the energy I had gotten from the trailer, I was very much hoping for more, or at least that same energy throughtout the film. And from the very opening of the movie, I felt hope that it was going to deliver what I was looking for; comedy.
sᴛᴏʀʏʟɪɴᴇ
The story is simple. There is supposed to be a wedding ceremony, but many things do not sit well with the father. Eventually, the wedding will happen, as the title gives away. Nothing special about that. The nuances to the details in the story line, acting, and everything in between should make the film worth the two-hour runtime.
As simple as the story is, what we do get is much more than we may have bargained for. I loved the fact that I felt as though I was seeing through the eyes of an actual family. The cultural representation was interesting to see, and then the dialogue between everyone felt very much like one would have them in reality.
Many issues were presented in just this one film. Issues like how divorce usually happens, the difficulties there are in letting go of your child that you have brought up, and the issue of being different from everyone else and being stigmatized for it.
The film is tagged "comedy." And I will admit to actually laughing for the majority of the film. not for comedic punchlines, as it's not that of a movie, but for things like dialogues, a weird old man who'd rather die by loving in bed, and many others.
ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛᴏɢʀᴀᴘʜʏ & ᴍᴜsɪᴄ
There isn't too much going on with the camera, lights and motion-picture here. The visual representation of the story is not something fantastic as one would see in movies that heavily depend on visual effects, but rather what we have is something good enough to suffice.
The most peculiar thing that stood out for me in this film is the excellent choice of songs. Many of them had Spanish feel to them, and I think that's particularly why I love them. The right choice of songs cannot be overemphasised in filmmaking.
ᴀᴄᴛɪɴɢ
Of course, there's not much that can be done with an excellent storyline when there are poor performances by the actors in the film. Their job is to sell the story with their characters well enough to convince the audience.
I would like to say that the majority (or say the main characters) of the actors did very good jobs with their roles. I, personally, felt a form of connection to the main characters for the way they delivered their roles.
Andy Garcia is the person I particularly want to give accolades to here. He is the main character as the "father of the bride." And without his brilliant performance in his role, the film would surely have gone sideways. This is because everything centers upon his character.
𝕄𝕐 𝔽𝕀ℕ𝔸𝕃 𝕋ℍ𝕆𝕌𝔾ℍ𝕋𝕊...
Films that are worth the time and entertaining as they should be are the ones that actually deserve to be at the top of any list for their categories, if you ask me. This film is definitely one of them.
It is one for the family in the sense that it is ideal for creating memorable moments due to its proclivity to deliver happy feelings.It is a family classic in my book, and I sure would recommend it to anybody.

Uno de los aspectos más intrigantes de las películas es su capacidad para transmitir información y ofrecer entretenimiento mientras cuentan una historia. Aunque esto varía en función de numerosas circunstancias en torno al tipo de película, es razonable concluir que las películas que vemos contribuyen a nuestras ideas de alguna manera, ya sea en gran medida o ligeramente.
Por eso, por ejemplo, los niños suelen inspirarse en las cosas que ven en la televisión para sus ambiciones. Sé que me he inspirado mucho en las películas que veía de niño.
Sin embargo, todos estamos de acuerdo en que no todas las películas merecen la pena, o mejor dicho, no todas las películas pueden ser del gusto de todos. Y encontrar las adecuadas puede resultar a veces bastante complicado, ya que la plétora de películas que tenemos ahora no lo hace más fácil.
El padre de la novia me la sugirió un amigo. Y aunque no soy especialmente aficionado a las películas de género cómico o familiar, no pude contener mi ansia tras ver su tráiler. Me enganchó el pedacito de comedia que se presentaba.
𝕊𝕆𝔹ℝ𝔼 𝕃𝔸 ℙ𝔼𝕃𝕀́ℂ𝕌𝕃𝔸
Billy Herrera es un reputado arquitecto, y junto a su mujer, Ingrid, y sus dos hijas, Sofía y Cora, viven en una casa construida por el propio Billy. Son una familia de inmigrantes que ha sufrido mucho para establecerse en Miami.
El matrimonio de Billy e Ingrid pende apenas de un hilo, y tras un año de asesoramiento, aún llegan a un acuerdo de divorcio.
Sofía, recién licenciada en Derecho, vuelve a casa tras una larga ausencia y anuncia su compromiso a su familia. Es una sorpresa para la familia, y aún más para Billy, el padre. Esto se debe a las incertidumbres que percibe Billy.
Por otra parte, Cora, su segunda hija, se rebela a seguir estudiando como su hermana mayor, pero insiste en ser diseñadora de moda a tiempo completo, lo que va en contra de la visión que Billy tiene de ella.
Mientras se ponen en marcha los planes para la boda, Billy lucha por aceptar el hecho de que sus hijas son ahora mujeres y son muy capaces de tomar decisiones para sus vidas.
𝕄𝕀𝕊 ℙ𝔼ℕ𝕊𝔸𝕄𝕀𝔼ℕ𝕋𝕆𝕊 𝕐 𝕆ℙ𝕀ℕ𝕀𝕆ℕ
Es una decisión más difícil la de dejar que la hija de uno se vaya a pegar al hijo de otro hombre para siempre, en comparación con que sea al revés. Luego, descubrir que fue su hija la que pidió la mano, y no el futuro marido, incluso elevó toda la tensión para él.
Seguramente, como padre, uno tendría que reunir todo el valor posible para dar el apoyo necesario a su hija. Pero cuando su propio matrimonio pende de un hilo, las cosas pueden empezar a desmoronarse más rápidamente.
El padre de la novia retrata la propensión que sigue un hombre con la intención de proporcionar a sus hijos una vida mejor que la suya. También ofrece una descripción suficiente del estilo de vida de la familia cubana y de la vida de una familia de inmigrantes.
Siguiendo la energía que había recibido del trailer, esperaba mucho más, o al menos esa misma energía a lo largo de la película. Y desde el mismo comienzo de la película, sentí la esperanza de que iba a ofrecer lo que buscaba; la comedia.
ʜɪsᴛᴏʀɪᴀ
La historia es sencilla. Se supone que hay una ceremonia de boda, pero muchas cosas no le gustan al padre. Al final, la boda se celebrará, como el título delata. No hay nada especial en eso. Los matices de los detalles en el argumento, la actuación y todo lo demás deberían hacer que la película valga las dos horas de duración.
A pesar de la sencillez de la historia, lo que obtenemos es mucho más de lo que podíamos esperar. Me encantó el hecho de sentir que estaba viendo a través de los ojos de una familia real. La representación cultural era interesante de ver, y luego los diálogos entre todos se sentían muy parecidos a los que se tendrían en la realidad.
En esta película se presentan muchos temas. Cuestiones como la forma en que suele producirse el divorcio, las dificultades que entraña desprenderse del hijo que uno ha criado y la cuestión de ser diferente a los demás y ser estigmatizado por ello.
La película está etiquetada como "comedia". Y admitiré que realmente me reí durante la mayor parte de la película. No por los chistes cómicos, ya que no es eso una película, sino por cosas como los diálogos, un viejo raro que prefiere morir amando en la cama, y muchas otras.
ᴄɪɴᴇᴍᴀᴛᴏɢʀᴀғɪ́ᴀ ʏ ᴍᴜ́sɪᴄᴀ
No hay mucho que hacer con la cámara, las luces y la imagen en movimiento aquí. La representación visual de la historia no es algo fantástico como se ve en las películas que dependen en gran medida de los efectos visuales, sino que lo que tenemos es algo lo suficientemente bueno como para ser suficiente.
Lo más curioso que me ha parecido en esta película es la excelente elección de las canciones. Muchas de ellas tenían un aire español, y creo que particularmente por eso me encantan. Nunca se insistirá lo suficiente en la elección correcta de las canciones en el cine.
ᴀᴄᴛᴜᴀᴄɪᴏ́ɴ
Por supuesto, no se puede hacer mucho con un excelente argumento cuando hay malas interpretaciones de los actores de la película. Su trabajo es vender la historia con sus personajes lo suficientemente bien como para convencer al público.
Me gustaría decir que la mayoría (o digamos los protagonistas) de los actores hicieron muy buen trabajo con sus papeles. Yo, personalmente, sentí una forma de conexión con los personajes principales por la forma en que interpretaron sus papeles.
Andy García es la persona a la que quiero elogiar especialmente aquí. Es el personaje principal como "padre de la novia". Y sin su brillante actuación en su papel, la película seguramente se habría desviado. Esto se debe a que todo se centra en su personaje.
𝕄𝕀𝕊 ℙ𝔼ℕ𝕊𝔸𝕄𝕀𝔼ℕ𝕋𝕆𝕊 𝔽𝕀ℕ𝔸𝕃𝔼𝕊...
Las películas que merecen la pena y entretienen como es debido son las que realmente merecen estar en los primeros puestos de cualquier lista de sus categorías, en mi opinión. Esta película es definitivamente una de ellas.
Es una película para la familia en el sentido de que es ideal para crear momentos memorables debido a su proclividad a entregar sentimientos felices.Es un clásico familiar en mi libro, y seguro que la recomendaría a cualquiera.
