The third film in the Ant-Man series, which will start the fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic universe; Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is released.
The ex-con, new hero Scott Lang, who still can't believe that he is an Avenger, now lives like a hero in San-Francisco and is accepted as such by his environment. He was chosen as the employee of 100 years at the ice cream shop where he was fired, and even walked the red carpet with his girlfriend Hope, and people always said the same thing to him; “Thanks Spiderman”. Now, Scott's biggest fun is participating in the promotions of his book, which tells about his adventures, and his biggest problem is the punishments he received as a result of the activist actions of his daughter Cassie, whom he took with him by promising to protect his mother.
In the first two films, Cassie, a little girl, grew up and became a scientist, influenced by those around her, and invented a tool by diving into the quantum world without holding back. He describes the instrument as "like a satellite for deep space, but quantum." In other words, it is an instrument like a telescope that creates a map with the responses it receives from the signals it sends to the quantum realm. While the device is working and Cassie is describing what happened, Janet interrupts and without saying "turn it off" it happens and the device that sends a signal from our world to the quantum realm gets out of control and causes a portal to open. Afterwards, they are all withdrawn and teleported to a different world, but the problem is that they are thrown to other places as two groups and lose each other.
Cassie and her father are taken over by the rebellious people of the quantum realm, who are displaced and nomadic fugitives. Although they are perceived as a danger because it is very obvious that they are foreigners, luckily, they have a mind-reading character in them and thus prove their innocence. Their only goal is to find their families and return home. On the other hand, Hank, Janet and their daughter Hope fall into another corner of this strange world. No one notices them at first because Janet, who has already survived there for 30 years, helps them survive thanks to her experience. With the help of friends he made in his previous life, he travels with a strange flying creature and asks another friend for help in finding Scott and Cassie. Meanwhile, Hope, who has not been able to get answers to all the questions she asked her mother about the subatomic world, watches her mother in bewilderment. Janet's survival skills are highly developed, but she also has something to hide and fear. Then this comes out.
Years ago, he helped a helpless man, Kang, who fell into that realm as a result of a misfortune like himself, repairing and running the energy core he needed to restart his ship, which was able to provide the transition between universes. However, she realized at the last moment that Kang was a very evil being, traveling between time and dimensions, causing the creation of countless parallel universes and the merciless destruction of some. He managed to neutralize Kang's energy core, imprisoning himself and him in that realm forever. Of course, unlike Janet, who was saved one day when her husband came to bring her back to the world she belonged to, Kang was filled with anger and greed where she was imprisoned. Thanks to his vast knowledge, he established a new civilization, of course, while doing this, he destroyed the local people. The locals, only a few of whom survived, tried to escape from Kang and hide, preparing for the day they would take revenge.
Later in the movie, Scott and Cassie fall into the hands of Kang. The shrinking technology that enabled Scott to transform into Antman is the only thing that will get Kang back to the core that will enable him to travel between universes. Scott is the only person who can reach the place where the core is stuck, shrink it to its old size and give it to Kang. Kang blackmails Scott by saying that he will kill Cassie he has captured. Kang uses all his power and means to achieve his goal, and the classic war of good and evil, the oppressed and the supporters begins. As Kang gathers all his strength and is about to destroy everyone in his realm, an unexpected boost changes the course of the battle. Hank's ants, who enter through the opened portal and become wise over time, plunge into the middle of the battle like the Rohirrim who arrive at the dawn of the fifth day.
After that, we watch the war between the two sides with plenty of CGI, classic Antman jokes, some emotional family moments, some sauces like the gas of the rebellion of the races that came together against the dictator. Also, the villain Darren, who was sent to this universe by Scott while trying to kill 6-year-old Cassie, is now known as M.O.D.O.K. So there is the second bad of the movie. While Scott and the others think Darren is already dead, they are stunned to see MODOK, repaired and refurbished by Kang, turned into a killing machine. Modok also added a different color to the movie as a cartoonish villain.
Although the name of the movie is Antman and the Wasp, the story includes many characters, and we even follow Janet's story in many scenes. Cassie and Kang also have more screen time than Hope, but almost as much as Scott. Of course, when we watch a Marvel movie, we can't look at it as a straight movie because many characters, places and events in the entire Marvel universe are processed in connection with each other. “Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania” is also part of Marvel's multiverse saga, actually preparing us for the first film of the fifth phase and the other films that follow. While watching the adventure of Scott and his family, we also see many details about the subatomic universe, we meet the big bad Kang, who will play a big role in future movies, and we watch the origin story of Cassie, who will again be in the upcoming movies or TV series.
Although the alien world into which our heroes are drawn is defined as the subatomic universe, it seemed to us like one of the classical galactic space universes that we have all been watching for years. In other words, the universe they found under the atom is not much different from the universes found in space infinity. Where groups fall, there are different atmospheres and various kinds of lifestyles. Just like in the StarWars movies, we see a lot of creatures, mechanical devices and various races. Even a raised and militarily strengthened city on the one hand, and mountainous terrains inhabited by rebels or separatists on the other, are familiar sights. In other words, the way the quantum universe or the subatomic world was constructed was not very different, special or admirable. Situations such as the fact that the dynamics of the universe are not different from those in our world, the concept of gravity works similarly, everyone can breathe in the same atmosphere, and that every living thing in the universe has the classical human diets has been handled very superficially and ordinary, even glossed over.
To sum up, Ant-Man is a beloved Marvel character and the previous two films were loved by the cinema audience. It is not a wrong choice to continue a popular character and events in a way that supports Marvel's new age, but making the fiction of the story similar to the fictions of known universes was simply underestimating. We understand the strange characters that may exist in the subatomic universe, but the existence of life forms in human form is a matter of serious debate. It was also a bit unpleasant that the Modok character, whose long stories are told in comics, was passed over in a movie. In fact, the expectation was that Modok would move into the future as a bigger villain. Maybe we'll rewatch Modok independently in another Marvel production, we'll see later. Serious productions will come, especially Kank the conquerer, which we know and understand for now. The messages of this were given clearly in the post-credit sequences. Like Thanos, the biggest villain of the previous phase, this phase's biggest villain will be Kank. The main event of this movie is that it is an introduction to the events and characters in Marvel's upcoming movies.
Describing a Marvel production and connecting the before and after is a serious business in itself, it is a big event that can be discussed for hours, and it is unfortunately not possible to discuss all the details in a single review. Therefore, the summary of the subject in a way that we can address to the standard audience is as follows.
