I have been listening to YouTube reviews for this one, having been a HUGE fan of the book and at least trying to enjoy the various movies based on it over the years. Some better than others, some absolute trash. This one, with Ice Cube, sounds like it is not even worth grabbing a free trial of Amazon Prime to watch and that is bad.
It sucks because no one wants to waste their time on a project that fails but it happens.
From what I have heard, this angle on the classic is just not handled well, too much pushing of Amazon Prime onto the viewers. I am sorry, no one in this situation is going to keep bringing up Amazon and Prime benefits and features.
It is not an Amazon Prime delivery drone or Tesla electric vehicle when you are facing down an alien invasion. That stuff is a drone, electric car or just car, no one in these situations will give a rats ass about the branding. Except those writing the checks care.
It just takes viewers out of what little excitement and immersion there is in the first place. Product placement should be a game of hidden object, not in your face star of the movie.
Look at Independence Day, that movie had a lot of marketing partners involved and people are still pointing out product placements - how many Pepsi cans can you find while watching? What about car manufacturers?
It is a shame, this could have been a great, different, take on the movie but instead we get an overly obvious Amazon advertisement that would make even Nintendo and The Wizard or Hasbro and the 80s animated Transformers Movie think they could have gone farther with product placement.
