En lo particular me gustó la actuación de Emily Blunt, quien interpreta a la Dra. Lily Houghton, puesto que deja atrás a la doncella que necesita ser rescatada y en su lugar encarna a una mujer intrépida y arriesgada. No obstante, la personificación de Dwayne Johnson, como Frank Wolff, es la de siempre, un hombre invencible que exhibe un derroche de testosterona, siempre listo para el combate y el engaño. Aunque en esta ocasión el libreto pretende mostrar a un individuo de gran corazón, lo cierto es que Johnson luce encasillado en lo que respecta a la actuación.
I particularly liked the performance of Emily Blunt, who plays Dr. Lily Houghton, as she leaves behind the maiden who needs to be rescued and instead plays a fearless and risky woman. However, the personification of Dwayne Johnson, as Frank Wolff, is the same as always, an invincible man exhibiting a waste of testosterone, always ready for combat and deception. Although this time the script is intended to show an individual with a big heart, the truth is that Johnson looks pigeonholed when it comes to acting.
En cuanto a los antagonistas del film, llegan al punto de lucir ridículos porque se presentan dentro de una atmósfera de misterio donde se pretende que sean temibles, pero en sus escenas no se logra tal propósito, en gran medida porque los exagerados efectos especiales atentan contra sus respectivas actuaciones. Edgar Ramírez lidera el grupo como Aguirre, personaje sin fuerza cuya participación es efímera, tanto que no se aprecia su lado maquiavélico bajo ninguna circunstancia.
As for the antagonists of the film, they reach the point of looking ridiculous because they are presented within an atmosphere of mystery where they are intended to be fearsome, but in their scenes this purpose is not achieved, largely because the exaggerated special effects undermine their respective performances. Edgar Ramírez leads the group as Aguirre, a character without strength whose participation is ephemeral, so much so that his Machiavellian side is not appreciated under any circumstances.
Admito que llegué a aburrirme durante un rato porque la película luce atestada de estereotipos y por más que se presente de corte familiar, es tal el despliegue de situaciones hilarantes y absurdas que la historia principal pasa a un segundo plano. Ni hablar de las ocasiones en las cuales el submarino y su tripulación aparecen. Lo de Johnson representando a un superhéroe, resolviendo cualquier situación mientras sonríe, es una fórmula que viene generando dividendos desde hace varios años, pero creo que está llegando a la frontera del hartazgo puesto que resulta complicado no relacionar a Jungle Cruise con otras películas como Jumanji: Bienvenido a la jungla, Viaje al centro de la tierra, o El tesoro del Amazonas, donde el actor repite su papel.
Another somewhat poor performance is that of Jack Whitehall, who plays the protagonist's brother. He is a secondary character whose interventions lean towards humor and the easy joke, even bordering on the effeminate. Although at the climax of the story he has a memorable intervention, he is remembered most of all for his constant changes of attire.
I admit that I got bored for a while because the film looks full of stereotypes and even if it is presented in a familiar way, the display of hilarious and absurd situations is such that the main story goes into the background. Not to mention the occasions in which the submarine and its crew appear. The thing about Johnson representing a superhero, solving any situation while smiling, is a formula that has been generating dividends for several years, but I think it is reaching the border of satiety since it is difficult not to relate Jungle Cruise with other films like Jumanji : Welcome to the jungle, Journey to the center of the earth or The treasure of the Amazon, where the actor repeats his role.
