As a die-hard fan of Monster Inc, I can't hide my interest in Monster At Work, a series that in my opinion has a rather complicated task to accomplish.
Proposed as a cross between spin-off and sequel, Monster At Work is a Disney Plus series that focuses on dealing with the consequences of the end of the film originally, that is, with Monster Inc's ability to adapt in a world in where the main source of energy comes from the laughs of children instead of scaring them.
For me it is particularly curious that after so many years and discussions regarding the sequel to Monster Inc few times it was brought up as the closure of this considerably changes the status quo of its own universe, and how Monster University (which served as a sequel) he evaded this by locating before those events.
We could assume that Pixar was trying to avoid bringing up the subject and that we would never have an actual sequel to the Mike and Sully story.
But no, it is already a reality and we have two episodes premiered on Disney Plus.
Surprisingly, Monster At Work is a sum of many, many good decisions, from a story that decides to focus on new characters without neglecting the originals, to a fairly simple setting that seems to drink from more mature products like The Office. The result is a highly enjoyable animated series that respects its viewers and evokes a sense of familiarity for those of us who grew up with the VHS copy of the original film.
Monster At Work takes a small slice of a concept and turns it into an interesting, organic conflict that can attract people of all ages. The idea of a society where those who used to be fittest are no longer useful, teamwork and the idea of understanding our purpose in life are some of the many concepts before which we will face in this work, with the which is easy to feel identified in certain moments of our life.
From the technical point of view, it is a very correct work that may not be as attractive as feature films (especially Monster University, which is wonderful) but it meets our expectations.
It is also worth noting that Billy Cristal and John Goodman return as Mike and Sully, and are joined by many high-level actors such as Ben Feldman, Henry Winkler and Mindy Kaling, great additions to the Monster Inc universe that are complemented by great character designs such as it is usual in Pixar.
I know it is a bit early to draw conclusions but for now everything looks great, I am excited that in a sea of so many products that inspire me little there is a series that manages to revive something that I loved in my childhood without insulting my current level of maturity.
At the time Monster Inc was already a fairly dense film, introducing complex ideas and presenting them in a kid-friendly way, so it's great to see this formula repeated with a little twist.
There is a lot of potential and something that tells me that they will know how to exploit it very well. Monster At Work is available on Disney Plus and I absolutely recommend that if you are a Monster Inc fan give it a try, it will be a good time.

Como fan a morir de Monster Inc no puedo ocultar mi interés en Monster At Work, una serie que a mi parecer tiene una tarea bastante complicada por cumplir.
Propuesta como una mezcla entre spin-off y secuela, Monster At Work es una serie de Disney Plus que se enfoca en lidiar con las consecuencias del final de la película originalmente, es decir, con la capacidad de Monster Inc para adaptarse en un mundo en donde la principal fuente de energía viene de las risas de los niños en vez de asustarlos.
Para mi es particularmente curioso que luego de tantos años y discusiones respecto a la secuela de Monster Inc pocas veces se trajera a colación como el cierre de esta cambia considerablemente el estatus quo de su propio universo, y como Monster University (Que sirvió como secuela) evadió esto al ubicarse antes de dichos eventos.
Podríamos suponer que Pixar buscaba evitar tocar el tema y que nunca tendríamos una secuela real a la historia de Mike y Sully.
Pero no, ya es una realidad y tenemos dos episodios estrenados en Disney Plus.
Sorprendentemente Monster At Work es una suma de muchísimas buenas decisiones, desde una historia que decide enfocarse en nuevos personajes sin dejar de lado a los originales hasta un setting bastante simple que pareciera beber de productos más maduros como The Office. El resultado es una serie animada bastante grata que respeta a sus espectadoras y evoca una sensación de familiaridad para aquellos que crecimos con la copia en VHS de la película original.
Monster At Work toma una porción pequeña de un concepto y lo convierte en un conflicto interesante y orgánico que puede atraer gente de todas las edades. La idea de una sociedad en donde aquellos que solían ser más aptos ya no son de utilidad, el trabajo en equipo y la idea de comprender nuestro propósito en la vida son algunos de los muchos conceptos antes los cuales nos enfrentaremos en esta obra, con la cual es fácil sentirse identificado en ciertos momentos de nuestra vida.
Desde lo técnico es una obra muy correcta que quizá no resulta tan vistosa como los largometrajes (Especialmente Monster University que es una maravilla) pero cumple con nuestras expectativas.
También cabe destacar que Billy Cristal y John Goodman regresan interpretando a Mike y Sully, y se les suman muchísimos actores de nivel como Ben Feldman, Henry Winkler y Mindy Kaling, adiciones geniales al universo Monster Inc que se ven complementadas con grandes diseños de personaje como es usual en Pixar.
Sé que es un poco temprano para sacar conclusiones pero de momento todo pinta genial, me emociona que en un mar de tantos productos que me inspiran poco exista una serie que logre revivir algo que amaba en mi infancia sin insultar mi nivel de madurez actual.
En su momento Monster Inc ya era una cinta considerablemente densa, que introducía ideas complejas y las presentaba de forma agradable para los niños, así que es genial ver esta fórmula repetida con un pequeño giro.
Hay muchísimo potencial y algo que me dice que sabrán explotarlo muy bien. Monster At Work se encuentra disponible en Disney Plus y recomiendo absolutamente que si son fan de Monster Inc le den una oportunidad, será un buen rato.
