There is something fascinating about the existence of raunchy comedies in the middle of 2023, films that build on a vulgar but interesting premise, challenging the limits of morality and shaping reality to give us a couple of uninhibited laughs.
Although I'm not saying that the genre is dead, generally the concept of a comedy has been diluted with other genres: horror, action, romance, science fiction, and is rarely presented in settings where it is the predominant force.
This is something that undoubtedly makes No Hard Feelings a pleasant experience, despite the fact that it does not do anything particularly unique with its irreverent proposal.
For those who don't know her, No Hard Feelings is a comedy directed by Gene Stupnitsky where we follow Maddie (Played by Jennifer Lawrence), a 32-year-old woman who finds herself in a precarious financial situation and is about to lose her home, Considering her main source of income is working as an Uber driver and her vehicle has just been impounded, Maddie stumbles upon an ad online where two parents offer an old Buick for free in exchange for a woman going on a "date." with his son.
This concept obviously caused quite a stir on the internet and we could have a debate about how questionable it is to glorify sex, or, worse yet, the power dynamics and maturity gap between a woman in her thirties and a guy barely is reaching twenty.
However, with my hand on my heart I must admit that wasting time trying to process one of these two things is silly, and "No Hard Feelings" hardly requires an analysis of this depth. Obviously, I'm not saying that he ignores these problems, quite the contrary, he admits their presence and places them in front of the screen, but instead of lecturing his protagonists he decides to use them as the engine for a silly and irreverent adventure.
Perhaps this is the greatest virtue of "No Hard Feelings", and what makes it most reminiscent of other similar films that were very popular in the early 2000s: The 40-Year old Virgin, Superbad or American Pie are just some of the most relevant examples.
It's far from being a masterpiece, but I think it fulfills very well what one expects from a film of this caliber... Besides, the chemistry that exists between Maddie and young Percy (Played by Andrew Barth Feldman) makes it easy ignore all the rough edges.
Surprisingly, No Hard Feelings is a movie that can be moving, and the laughs will become more recurring as you get to know its protagonists, it's not my favorite movie of this year but it was a solid experience and quite entertaining.

Hay algo fascinante en la existencia de las raunchy comedies en pleno 2023, películas que se construyen sobre una premisa vulgar pero interesante, desafiando los límites de la moralidad y moldeando la realidad para brindarnos un par de risas desinhibidas.
Aunque no estoy diciendo que el género ha muerto, generalmente el concepto de una comedia se ha diluido con otros géneros: el terror, la acción, el romance, la ciencia ficción, y raramente se presenta en escenarios en dónde sea la fuerza predominante.
Esto es algo que indudablemente hace de No Hard Feelings una experiencia grata, a pesar de que no haga nada particularmente único con su irreverente propuesta.
Para aquellos que la desconozcan, No Hard Feelings es una comedia dirigida por Gene Stupnitsky en dónde seguimos a Maddie (Interpretada por Jennifer Lawrence), una mujer de 32 años que se encuentra en una situación económica precaria y está a punto de perder su casa, considerando que su mayor fuente de ingresos está en trabajar como chófer de Uber y su vehículo acaba de ser confiscado, Maddie se topa con un anuncio en internet en dónde dos padres ofrecen un viejo buick gratis a cambio de que una mujer tenga una "cita" con su hijo.
Este concepto obviamente causó mucho revuelo en internet y podríamos tener un debate acerca de lo cuestionable que es glorificar el sexo, o, peor aún, las dinámicas de poder y la diferencia de madurez que hay entre una mujer en sus treinta y un chico que apenas está alcanzando los veinte.
No obstante, con la mano en el corazón debo reconocer que malgastar tiempo tratando de procesar una de estas dos cosas es tonto, y "No Hard Feelings" difícilmente requiera un análisis de esta profundidad. Obviamente, no estoy diciendo que ignore estos problemas, todo lo contrario, admite su presencia y los ubica al frente de la pantalla, pero en vez de sermonear a sus protagonistas decide usarlos como motor para una aventura tonta e irreverente.
Quizá está sea la mayor virtud de "No Hard Feelings", y aquello que la hace más reminiscente a otros filmes similares que mantuvieron mucha fuerza a principios de los 2000: The 40-Year old Virgin, Superbad o American Pie son solo algunos de los ejemplos más relevantes.
Dista de ser una obra maestra, pero creo que cumple muy bien con lo que uno espera de una película de este calibre... Aparte, la química que existe entre Maddie y el joven Percy (Interpretado por Andrew Barth Feldman) hace que sea fácil ignorar todas las asperezas.
Sorprendentemente, No Hard Feelings es una película que puede llegar a ser conmovedora, y las risas se harán más recurrentes a medida que vas conociendo a sus protagonistas, no es mi película favorita de este año pero fue una experiencia sólida y bastante entretenida.
