Tár is one of those films that I find it very difficult to approach when writing a review, because I honestly feel that most of my thoughts about it are developing on a plane that is too abstract in which even I myself am not sure Whether I enjoyed what I saw or not.
From the mind of Todd Field (a highly acclaimed filmmaker who had been inactive for almost two decades), Tár shows us the story of Lydia Tár, a fictional artist who is at the peak of her career and who begins to be affected by the consequences of his questionable acts, where he took advantage of his position of power and recognition to obtain "favors" of a sexual nature.
The irony of the whole thing is that despite the simplification of this premise, simultaneously it can give us the impression that this is a film with a clear plot and easy to follow, at the same time, on the other hand, we could say that many details are being left out.
Starring a brilliant Cate Blanchett (who, thanks to this role, cultivated a well-deserved Oscar nomination for best actress), Tár is a character study in the most literal sense of the word, immersing us in every aspect of her life and allowing us to as spectators let's unravel what happens inside and outside his mind.
Although all the events are narrated from her perspective, this does not mean that Lydia Tár is a heroic character, quite the contrary, she is a human being with sociopathic tendencies, an immense ego and a toxic obsession with her career. .
Curiously, Tár's position is usually very neutral, and it generates discussions that are particularly fascinating in the society we live in today, a society that does not seem to have yet resolved the eternal debate of art vs. the artist, and the possibility that there (or not) to divide the creation of its creator.
Minimalism is loud in her way, and the ambiguity with which Tár's central message is handled is very fitting considering the complicated nature of the conflict makes it necessary to convey this message in the first place.

Beyond this, Tár is a very well made film, with a slow pace but neat and effective cinematography, full of powerful moments and full of quality performances.
Tár es una de esas películas que me cuesta muchísimo abordar a la hora de redactar un review, debido a que honestamente siento que la mayoría de mis pensamientos al respecto se están desarrollando en un plano demasiado abstracto en el que ni siquiera yo mismo tengo la certeza de si disfruté lo que ví o no.
De la mente de Todd Field (Un cineasta bastante aclamado que tenía casi dos décadas inactivo), en Tár se nos muestra la historia de Lydia Tár, una artista ficticia que se encuentra en la cúspide de su carrera y que se empieza a ver afectada por las consecuencias de sus actos cuestionables, en dónde aprovechaba su posición de poder y reconocimiento para conseguir "favores" de índole sexual.
Lo irónico de todo el asunto es que a pesar de lo simplista de esta premisa, simultáneamente nos puede dar la impresión de que está es una película con un argumento claro y fácil de seguir, al mismo tiempo, por otro lado, podríamos decir que muchos detalles se están dejando por fuera.
Protagonizada por una brillante Cate Blanchett (Quien gracias a este rol cultivó una muy merecida nominación al Oscar de mejor actriz), Tár es un estudio de personaje en el sentido mas literal de la palabra, sumergiendonos en cada aspecto de su vida y permitiendo que nosotros como espectadores vayamos desentrañando lo que ocurre dentro y fuera de su mente.
Si bien todos los eventos se narran desde su perspectiva, esto no quiere decir que Lydia Tár sea un personaje heroico, todo lo contrario, es un ser humano con tendencias sociopaticas, un ego inmenso y una obsesión tóxica con su carrera.
Curiosamente, la postura de Tár suele ser muy neutra, y genera discusiones que resultan particularmente fascinantes en la sociedad en la que vivimos hoy en día, una sociedad que no parece haber resuelto aún el eterno debate del arte vs el artista, y la posibilidad que hay (o no) de dividir a la creación de su creador.
El minimalismo es ruidoso a su manera y la ambigüedad con la que se maneja el mensaje central de Tár es muy adecuado si consideramos la naturaleza tan complicada del conflicto que hace que sea necesario transmitir este mensaje en primer lugar.

Más allá de esto, Tár es una película muy bien hecha, con un ritmo lento pero una cinematografía pulcra y efectiva, llena de momentos potentes y plagada de performances de calidad.
