Ennalum entaliya, a Malayalam movie review
The above movie is a comedy but with several messages all intertwined in an entertaining package.
The movie is directed by Bash Mohammed. The lead roles are played by Siddique, Lena, Suraj, Gayatri, Meera, and others.
When I first watched a short on youtube, featuring Lena and Siddique, I noted that I must watch the movie. So, when it was released on Amazon Prime Video, I sat down and watched the full movie at a stretch which is quite rare these days with multiple stuff to do at hand besides hive and discord.
After watching this movie, I will say with conviction that it can be rewatched too because it is not only a great comedy but the way the movie has been directed speaks volumes about the expertise of the director and the flawlessness of the actors. There are subtitles and so even if you do not understand the language, please listen to the audio to enjoy the voice modulation of the female lady lead and read the translated text.
What is this movie all about?
The story is set in the middle east. A young couple is shown living in an apartment and the lady's younger brother comes for a surprise visit and stay. In another apartment in the same complex, a young girl and her overprotective parents are shown. The girl's mother is always suspicious of her daughter. They are conservative Muslims and the mother suspects that her daughter has a boyfriend.
Meanwhile, the boy's sister and her husband and the girl's parents have a tiff over car parking and later when the mother discovers that the very same brother is in close contact with her daughter, she decides to visit them and although they quarrel at first, they come to terms with each other and decide to advise the young ones. Meanwhile, the bride-to-be and friend of their daughter elope with a boy and in the end, it is revealed that the brother ran off with the bride to be but another guy comes in and declares that he is the boyfriend of the girl with the overprotective parents and even if he is a Muslim, he belongs to another race.
All is well that ends well but the comedy is such that the dialogue and the delivery by Lena who plays the overprotective mother make it worth watching again.
I know it is not easy to understand a foreign language movie but the way she speaks and her body language will compensate. This movie reminds me of Shakespearean plays. The movie set is shot mostly in apartments and does not have fancy locations like some other Indian-language movies do. It is a pure comedy entertainer and can even be reenacted by students of filmmaking.
The movie is produced by Listin Stephen and directed by Bash Mohammed who has also written the screenplay along with Sreekumar Arackal.
I hope you will be able to watch this movie on Prime. There are teasers on YouTube and it might help you to know what to expect.
