Hello everyone! ๐น ๐
They Made Me a Criminal is a remake of The Life of Jimmy Dolan (1933), which overshadows the latter in many ways. Director Busby Bekeley, best known for his great musicals in the 40s and 50s (Take Me Out to the Ball Game, Me and My Gal), this time, in his almost forgotten film, switched dance choreography to boxing and made a film that combines all the elements of noir film and drama with a story that keeps viewers interested at all times.
Director: Busby Bekeley
Playing: John Garfield, The Dead End Kids, Claude Rains, Ann Sheridan, May Robson, Gloria Dickson, Billy Halop, Leo Gorcey, Bobby Jordan
Plot:
Johnnie Bradfield has just been declared a world boxing champion and everyone adores him. His popularity is also based on the fact that he comes from a poor family and has been forced to fight a lot in his life. However, one evening a drunk confides in a journalist that his self-image is just publicity, as he is in fact a heavy drinker and a womanizer. To protect his fake persona from the public, Johnnieโs manager angrily kills the reporter. But when he realizes the brutality of his act, he decides to blame the boxer. Johnnie escapes from New York and hides on a ranch for delinquent youth in Arizona, while New York detective Phelan is on his heelsโฆ
