source - this is a scene from the movie if I recall
Introduction
It's been a while since I posted a movie review! I just haven't had the chance to blog about movies lately but here I am with one after a long time! So on April 13, I had to service my laptop. I wanted to pickup on the same day and they said they could do it but it would take them a few hours. I needed to kill time so I decided to watch a movie.
There were a few movies to choose from and I was stuck between Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, The Pope's Exorcist, John Wick 4 and Ride on. It was long time since I watched a Cantonese movie and Ride On also had the best timing. If I chose a different movie, I would have to wait an hour for them to start.
Ride On is starring Jackie Chain. I'm sure everyone knows Jackie Chan; he's a famous martial artist and he's super famous in movies as well. He's probably one of the few that actually does all the stunts himself without a substitute. Growing up, I've watched a lot of his movies and I've enjoyed many of them so I thought picking this movie was a safe choice.
Picture of My Movie Ticket
The movie ticket was around RM20 for 1 Adult which is around $4.5 USD. The movie runtime was just a bit over two hours. I watched the movie by myself. For those that are from Malaysia, I watched this at EkoCheras Mall in GSC.
My Thoughts On The Movie
I really enjoyed this movie. There was a nice mix of action, comedy and emotion all together. I actually teared up watching this movie so let that be a warning to those that cry easily during movies that have emotional scenes. I really liked the horse in this movie. It was a really funny horse I'm not sure if they used a real one but if it was real it was well trained! Jackie Chan was also great; I loved the character development his character had during the movie.
I want to briefly describe the plot of this movie. It's basically about a guy named Luo that is a stuntman who has trouble making money and is being chased by debt collectors. Later he runs into some complications where his horse might be sold to cover his debts. I wouldn't say it's the most amazing storyline. I think what made the movie great was Jackie Chan, the horse and Liu Haocun. I think they acted really well and it made the movie awesome! I think whoever came up with the scenes was a genius too. They were able to incorporate comedy, action and emotional scenes all into movie and the transitioning and building up to the emotional scenes was on point.
The movie also does teaches some life lessons like you may not know what you have until it's gone. I also love one of the quotes in the movie. "It's easier jumping down than stepping down". It took a while until for Luo the main character to realize this and I won't explain how. You have to watch the movie to find out! It does make sense though! For example, it doesn't have to be ending our life but jumping off is faster and easier than trying to step down a ladder.
Conclusion
If you like Jackie Chan, then you can't go wrong with this movie. I left a trailer that includes English subs below and hopefully that gets you interested in watching as well.
