Why I like that phrase, “If it’s on Tv they already doing it” then here comes the movie Ex Machina, if you are aware we are finally in the times of public AI, Ex Machina is a sci-fi film would have been awesome if came out during this times, none the less it’s a great blast from the past.
The plot follows a young programmer named Caleb who wins a competition to spend a week at the remote estate of the company's reclusive CEO, Nathan.
Caleb
When he arrives, Nathan tells Caleb that he's been chosen to participate in an experiment with an advanced AI robot named Ava. Nathan wants Caleb to administer the Turing test to Ava, to determine whether she has true consciousness.
Nathan
Caleb spends time with Ava and begins to develop feelings for her, he starts to question Nathan's true motives and the true nature of Ava's consciousness. Things take a strange turn, and it becomes clear that Nathan has been manipulating the experiment, during this time Caleb finds out how Ava really "feels" about her so rounding and how she has been threaten by Nathan, but then again you need to find out during this time if this is also part of Nathan manipulation or if Ava really has feelings, this movie really plays you mind games.
The story of the movie is mainly told by Caleb but then comes this conflict were you find Caleb telling his side of the story and Ava comes with stronger argument because keep in mind that Caleb point of view during the movie is to raise the question Is Ava really a thinking person? or is she just a machine, this kind of thinking constantly confuse him because Ava is manipulative too and tries to behave as a human, its amazing.
The film raises some really interesting questions about artificial intelligence, consciousness, and what it means to be human. It has some amazing special effects.
One of the main themes of the film is artificial intelligence and what it means to be human. The film presents the idea that AI can have consciousness and emotions, just like humans do. This raises questions about what it means to be alive and whether or not we should consider AI to be "alive". This theme is presented in the film through Ava, the AI robot, who is seems to have human-like consciousness and emotions.
Ava
This theme is particularly relevant to the world today as we are seeing rapid advancements in the field of AI. As AI becomes more advanced, we will be faced with more ethical questions about how we should treat these "artificial" beings once they start taking forms, right now the most popular ones are just chats but soon will take forms and body like a human or an animal, as the ones design by Boston Dynamics. So the questions to raise are do they have rights? Are they alive? These are questions that society will have to grapple with in the future.
Another theme of the film is control and manipulation. Nathan, the CEO, but for me the AI part of the movie is the most important, in the movie Nathan is revealed to have been manipulating the experiment from the start, and it becomes clear that he's using Ava for his own gain. This raises questions about the ethics of using AI for our own purposes and who is really in control, the humans or the AI. This theme is also relevant to the world today, as we are seeing more and more instances of AI being used for surveillance and control. As AI becomes more advanced, it's important for society to consider the implications of using this technology for control and manipulation.
The visual effects and cinematography in Ex Machina is very particular, the dark rooms, the angles and how suspicious it looks every time Caleb talks to Ava. The design of Ava, the AI robot, to the sleek and futuristic setting, every frame of this film is a feast for the eyes. The effects are used to create a sense of unease and tension, which perfectly complements the themes of the film but in my opinion this one paints that scenario better that most of the movies I have seen. This is a movie that was not too popular at the time.
The design of Ava is particularly noteworthy. The effects used to create her robot body are seamless and make her appear both realistic and out of this world at the same time. It's a testament to the skill of the visual effects team that they were able to make Ava feel like a real character, despite the fact that she's a robot. There are times during the movie that even you know she is a robot tricks you how she answers questions.
The cinematography of the film is also top-notch. The use of lighting and camera angles creates a sense of claustrophobia and isolation that perfectly reflects the themes of the film. The film's setting, a secluded mansion in the middle of nowhere, is used to great effect to create a sense of unease.
Overall, the visual effects and cinematography in Ex Machina are absolutely top-notch. They contribute to the atmosphere and themes of the film in a way that's both subtle and impactful. It's a film that's worth watching just for the visuals alone, but when combined with the thought-provoking themes and excellent performances, it makes for a truly unforgettable experience.
Conclusion
I think you already know my opinion on the movie Ex Machina. I have to say, I was really impressed, I remember when I saw it the first time it was not even planned, I was bored and didn’t have anything else to watch, sometimes that’s when I find some of the best films to watch. The performances of the main characters, Ava, Caleb, and Nathan, were outstanding and they did a great job of bringing the themes to life. The special effects were also really impressive and added to the overall atmosphere of the film.
In short, I highly recommend Ex Machina to anyone who is interested in the possibilities and ethical implications of AI. It's a film that will make you think long after the credits roll, and it's definitely worth a watch. Whether you're a sci-fi fan or just someone interested in the future of technology, Ex Machina is a movie that you don't want to miss.
