One Fast Move (2024) is the new motor sports drama film specifically bike related something very niche that we don't see every day, I love bikes so might watch when I get the time, expectations of this upcoming film are that it will feature good action full of track motorcycle racing, something not common as most racing movies are street based; and a good dose of family drama. The main character, Wes Neal, a young man with a dark past and a great desire to become a motorcycle racer who just got release from prison and unsure of his role in society, the film shows Wes’ first attempt at achieving his goal by searching for his absent father, Dean Miller.
The film also focuses on the relationship between the two characters revealing the emotional barriers developed during years of separation and unaddressed drama, Wes has his dream of being a professional motorcycle racer and the physical aspect of the sport and the drama that comes with re connecting with his father, enriches the plot that is focused on the father and son, probably to touch upon the issue familiar to many people the lack of trust in a family.
This movie features a good cast, a director with experience and a good story and this makes it a movie that goes for more than just the race sequences. It deals with issues such as forgiveness, determination and the ability to follow one’s dream despite all the adversities.

The Cast and Characters
KJ Apa as Wes Neal
Lili Reinhart’s co star KJ Apa who is famous for playing Archie Andrews on the television series Riverdale stars as Wes Neal. This character is a big change for Apa as he moves from teen drama series to crime series of a darker nature. His character is a twenty five year old man just released from prison with no obvious way of making a living besides racing motorcycles.Eric Dane in the role of Dean Miller
Eric Dane plays the character of Dean Miller, who is Wes’s father and the actor adds his experience to the show who at the time have that vibe of an age racer, not exactly knowing Wes is his son but with enough suspicion, Dane is famous for his role in the Grey’s Anatomy and recently in Euphoria the show that has multi shaded antiheroes.
Maia Reficco as Camila
Beautiful newcomer Maia Reficco is Camila, Wes’s girlfriend and source of comfort for him on this story, she comes to the project fresh from her breakout role in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. There is not much rather than a couple of teen age drama series so its a similar story to KJ Apa where both are actors who are going to get proven on real movies, this time not for the big screen but hopefully a movie with some good racing action and drama that is not boring.
Edward James Olmos as Abel
Completing the main cast is the famous Hollywood actor Edward James Olmos who plays the role of Abel, the owner of a motorcycle shop and Wes’s tutor. Olmos has been acting for over 40 years and played in such movies as Blade Runner, Miami Vice, and Battlestar Galactica, which gives the movie some weight with his addition, with his appearance is expected to impact the acting of the young talents and enrich the plot of the movie.
Director Kelly Blatz
Leading this project is the versatile Kelly Blatz who best known for his acting, directing, writing, after a great success with his directional debut Senior Love Triangle (2019) is Blatz’s most recognizable directorial work to date, as well as the most publicized. Not only is he the director but also the screenplay writer, which makes him put together something he has passion in doing and motorcycles which are usually associated with racing. Before directing the movie, Blatz directed the short movie The Stairs, given that acting is probably one of the key defining factors of his career; this makes him well placed to manage his cast and get them ready for the best performances possible, a professional who has gone through multiple core functions within a production.
Themes and Expectations
Although the film itself is about a high octane motorcycle race, a lot of the critics and the viewers are wondering if there is something more complex than just another racing movie, considering bike movies don't do as well as race cars for some reason, I guess its all about popularity, cars been more universal way of transportation. Here are some of the key themes expected to be addressed:
- Family and particularly fathers and sons and effects of parents’ absence
- Second chances and redemption
- Death, the pursuit of the adrenaline rush, and other related aspects of the human experience
The film is R rated on the basis of which these themes seem to be portrayed in a raw manner; according to the MPAA the reasons given for the rating were some sexual content, drug use, nudity and language. This approach could be better for adults, so it might let the audience better focus on the characters’ problems and the rather rough world of professional racing.
Themes like family relationship mix with motorcycle racing could take this racing type movie into a different perspective for the audience on the sports drama genre, probably making the audience bond with the drama develop by a charismatic cast having Eric Dane and Edward James doing the heavy lifting while the main characters who are played by more fresh and new actors do all the details, the movie does have potential to perform well, I personally not expecting a hit but at least make it a good one time watch.
I would expect that movies like this go deeper into the drama side, its a popular opinion that racing movies have to be all about action although its where most failed, reason why Fast and Furious franchise always have to go over the top because it lacks drama, it is only interesting because of the stunts they do but you can't keep dopamine high all through a 2hr movie. From what I can get from One Fast Move (2024) is intended to be a story of a man’s quest for self and forgiveness with a touch of family loyalty within the framework of a motorcycle race
