Seguramente en este punto, muchos ya tienen su opinión al respecto sobre la recién estrenada serie de Amazon Prime que cubre el fantástico universo de Tolkien. ¿Quién no recuerda el señor de los Anillos? Aquella aventura épica que fue capaz de crear cultura en el universo ficticio. Prominentes obras se desprendieron después, tanto en el mundo literario como en el séptimo arte, en el cual dominó el asombro de las bocas abiertas. Ahora, la leyenda regresa con un trasfondo crítico, lleno de expectativas y desilusiones. Tras el estreno de La Casa del Dragón las exigencias crecen pero… ¿son acertadas?
Los Anillos de Poder es la serie de televisión con la que Amazon Prime intenta llegar a la cima de la historia. Podría decir yo que esta recién nacida serie de televisión tiene todo lo necesario para triunfar con una producción costosísima y una épica tan vigorosa. No obstante, el descontento que ha arrastrado esta obra desde sus inicios no ha sido para nada bueno. Ideas abstractas de los fieles a los libros han generado un debate que, en sentencia, ha ensombrecido un resultado maravilloso.
Como fiel amante de la obra de Tolkien, respeto la esencia del pensamiento de quienes no pueden estar de acuerdo con el arranque de este nuevo universo fantástico… pero, al menos yo, debo decir con toda seguridad que Los Anillos de Poder ha triunfado en su mítica confección. Y no es para más: al mirar las escenas de esta serie de televisión reluce la imponente lucidez de las imágenes; paisajes hermosos aquí y allá, en una armonía cuidadosa en lo que se refiere a los efectos especiales. Visualmente es una obra única… incluso me recuerda a lo que alguna vez logró Peter Jackson con el Señor de los Anillos.

Al menos parece que esta nueva producción de Amazon quiere conectar con su antepasado exitoso, aquella franquicia de películas que despertó la euforia tanto en los amantes de la fantasía elemental como en aquellos que ni siquiera la conocían. Los Anillos de Poder nos envuelve en la nostalgia con la versión más joven de algunos personajes de leyenda, esos que nos enamoraron durante la misión de Frodo Bolsón y su fiel amigo Sam. Aquí la oscuridad nace, se expande como una enfermedad silenciosa. La Tierra Media reluce en su forma más primitiva, más elemental: enanos, elfos, hombres y orcos están convocados a una lucha que sacudirá los cimientos del mundo.
He aquí la fidelidad entre los libros de Tolkien y el propio argumento de la serie televisiva, o al menos de Streaming. A muchos fans no le gustó la forma en la que Amazon y el equipo liderado por J. D. Payne construyeron la historia. Nada tiene que ser perfecto y, en todo caso, es difícil adaptar con fidelidad algo nacido en el mundo literario, bueno, al menos así creo yo. La primera oleada de críticas nació de los personajes, de las interpretaciones artísticas y la supuesta falta de respeto a las obras originales. Yo digo: ¿de qué hablan? Si bien la cultura medieval se caracterizó por un linaje de raza y cultura, no puedo caer en las trampas en las que muchos han caído. Decir que una obra es de mala calidad solo porque no adaptaron con fidelidad el parentesco de un personaje es, para mí, una soberbia estupidez.
No se trata de cómo sea el actor o la actriz, se trata de su interpretación: la forma en la que enamoran al espectador y lo transportan a un mundo fantástico. Aun es muy temprano para sacar conclusiones elementales, pero con el primer vistazo que le he echado a los Anillos de Poder debo decir que las actuaciones, al menos por ahora, no giran en el limbo. Si es cierto que le falta más chispa a una que otra actuación, pero vamos, ¡esto apenas comienza! Yo auguro cosas buenas para esta serie porque realmente me gustó su arranque y su ritmo, y eso me lleva a decir lo siguiente:

¿Y por qué lo digo? Porque ambas historias son distintas entre sí. Mientras una aborda la descabellada lucha por el poder (en este caso La Casa del Dragón), la otra nos lleva al escenario del bien y el mal. Si bien la obra de Tolkien y Martin comparten elementos en común, ambas toman caminos diferentes. Aquellos que buscan la misma emoción que en GOT no la hallarán en Los Anillos de Poder. Ambas series de televisión pueden coexistir armoniosamente, aunque claro, el camino competitivo entre ambas se cerca cada vez en un punto peligro.
La idea del debate surge en torno al ritmo de Los Anillos de Poder, el cual yo no considero lento en ningún aspecto. Claro que para aquellos que no están muy familiarizados con la obra de Tolkien todo puede ser confuso, y por esto la idea general de que la historia de esta serie debe ir paso a paso hasta su desenlace, todavía más por estar inspirada en un universo complejo. Palabras menos: es necesario el camino que han tomado sus creadores, al menos por ahora.
Una mirada a los nuevos Protagonistas
Al igual que lo hice con mi opinión acerca del arranque que tuvo La Casa del Dragón he decidido describir para ustedes los personajes que hasta ahora se han robado mi corazón, tanto por el recuerdo como por la posibilidad de volver a verlos, y entre ellos, está Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). Si eres de los que critica al personaje, sé que no me amarás por lo que acabo de decir. Es cierto que hay una notable diferencia entre la versión de Tolkien y lo que nos mostró Los Anillos de Poder. No obstante, lo interesante aquí es la evolución que ella tendrá hasta convertirse en lo que hemos visto anteriormente. La misión de Galadriel será vencer ese orgullo, o tal vez desterrarlo. ¿Qué será primero? Por ahora, contemplamos a una mujer con la fuerza de convicción como para honrar la memoria de su hermano.
Elrond (Robert Aramayo) es otro personaje que aviva mi nostalgia; aquí se nos muestra como la versión joven de aquel rey vigoroso que forjó, muchos años después, la comunidad del anillo. Por ahora es un chaval pacífico, impregnado en la paz y la prosperidad sin rencor. A primera vista parece un personaje débil, y sin embargo, todos sabemos lo que puede desprenderse de él. A Aramayo lo conocí por primera vez en su actuación del joven Ned Stark, por allá en la sexta temporada de GOT. El personaje de Elrond es un tanto complejo por su carácter y su vigor, y creo que el actor puede hacer un buen trabajo en el transcurso de la historia… yo espero que sí.
Finalmente, desde el lado de los Pelosos primitivos, está Nori (Markella Kavenagh), la niña curiosa y un poco entrometida. Ella es otra de mis favoritas porque, por alguna razón, encuentro una peculiar similitud con lo que alguna vez fue Frodo Bolsón. La razón por la que es una de mis favoritas es por su inmutable curiosidad, que, de alguna forma u otra puede llevarla a un gran desenlace. La actriz es lo suficientemente espontanea como para cautivarnos, además, su personaje promete mucho… espero no decepcione en el camino.
¿Los Anillos de Poder representan la pura decepción?
Para los necios quizás sea un decepcionante, pero para mí es una obra de arte. Hay defectos, desde luego: quizás la fidelidad a los libros de Tolkien sea lo que aparte a la audiencia de la serie. Pero, a grandes rasgos, estamos frente a una producción de excelencia, una que debe disfrutarse de principio a fin. El fracaso o no de esta serie de televisión dependerá de cómo se siga desarrollando el asunto de elfos, enanos y hombres en una Tierra Media primitiva. Falta mucho por recorrer, y sin embargo, hasta ahora el camino ha sido gratificante.
Obviamente, esta es solo mi humilde opinión… ;-)

Surely at this point, many already have their opinion about the newly released Amazon Prime series that covers Tolkien's fantastical universe. Who does not remember the Lord of the Rings? That epic adventure that was able to create culture in the fictional universe. Prominent works emerged later, both in the literary world and in the seventh art, in which the astonishment of open mouths dominated. Now, the legend returns with a critical background, full of expectations and disappointments. After the premiere of La Casa del Dragón the demands grow but… are they right?
The Rings of Power is the television series with which Amazon Prime tries to reach the top of the story. I could say that this newly born television series has everything it takes to succeed with a very expensive production and such a vigorous epic. However, the discontent that has dragged this work since its inception has not been good at all. Abstract ideas of those faithful to the books have generated a debate that, in sentence, has overshadowed a wonderful result.
As a faithful lover of Tolkien's work, I respect the essence of the thought of those who cannot agree with the start of this new fantastic universe... but, at least for me, I must say with certainty that The Rings of Power has triumphed in its mythical confection. And it is not for more: when looking at the scenes of this television series the imposing lucidity of the images shines; beautiful landscapes here and there, in careful harmony as far as special effects are concerned. Visually it is a unique work… it even reminds me of what Peter Jackson once achieved with Lord of the Rings.

At least it seems that this new Amazon production wants to connect with its successful ancestor, that movie franchise that aroused euphoria in both elementary fantasy lovers and those who didn't even know it. The Rings of Power wraps us in nostalgia with the younger version of some legendary characters, those who fell in love with us during the mission of Frodo Baggins and his faithful friend Sam of him. Here the darkness is born, it spreads like a silent disease. Middle-earth shines in its most primitive, most elemental form: dwarves, elves, men and orcs are summoned to a fight that will shake the foundations of the world.
Here is the fidelity between Tolkien's books and the plot of the television series itself, or at least of Streaming. Many fans did not like the way Amazon and the team led by J. D. Payne built the story. Nothing has to be perfect and, in any case, it is difficult to faithfully adapt something born in the literary world, well, at least I think so. The first wave of criticism was born from the characters, the artistic interpretations and the alleged lack of respect for the original works. I say: what are they talking about? While medieval culture was characterized by a lineage of race and culture, I cannot fall into the traps many have fallen into. To say that a work is of poor quality just because they did not faithfully adapt the relationship of a character is, for me, superb stupidity.
It's not about how the actor or actress is, it's about their interpretation: the way they make the viewer fall in love and transport them to a fantastic world. It's still too early to draw elementary conclusions, but with the first look I've taken at the Rings of Power I must say that the performances, at least for now, do not spin in limbo. If it is true that one performance is missing more spark than another, but come on, this is just beginning! I predict good things for this series because I really liked its start and its rhythm, and that leads me to say the following:

Why do I say this? Because both stories are different from each other. While one deals with the crazy struggle for power (in this case The House of the Dragon), the other takes us to the scene of good and evil. Although the work of Tolkien and Martin share common elements, both take different paths. Those looking for the same excitement as in GOT will not find it in The Rings of Power. Both television series can coexist harmoniously, although of course, the competitive path between the two is increasingly close to a point of danger.
The idea of the debate arises around the rhythm of The Rings of Power, which I do not consider slow in any aspect. Of course, for those who are not very familiar with Tolkien's work, everything can be confusing, and for this reason the general idea that the story of this series must go step by step until its outcome, even more so because it is inspired by a complex universe . Words less: the path that its creators have taken is necessary, at least for now.
A look at the new Protagonists
As I did with my opinion about the start of The House of the Dragon, I have decided to describe for you the characters that have stolen my heart so far, both because of the memory and because of the possibility of seeing them again , and among them, is Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). If you are one of those who criticize the character, I know you will not love me for what I just said. It is true that there is a notable difference between Tolkien's version and what The Rings of Power showed us. However, what is interesting here is the evolution that she will have until she becomes what we have seen before. Galadriel's mission will be to defeat that pride, or perhaps banish it. What will be first? For now, we look at a woman with the strength of conviction to honor the memory of her brother.
Elrond (Robert Aramayo) is another character that fuels my nostalgia; he here he appears to us as the young version of that vigorous king who forged, many years later, the community of the ring. For now he is a peaceful lad, steeped in peace and prosperity without rancor. At first glance he seems like a weak character, and yet we all know what can come of him. I met Aramayo for the first time in his performance as young Ned Stark, back in the sixth season of GOT. Elrond's character is somewhat complex because of his character and his vigor, and I think the actor can do a good job over the course of the story... I hope so.
Finally, from the Primitive Hairy side, there is Nori (Markella Kavenagh), the curious and slightly nosy girl. She's another one of my favorites because, for some reason, she finds a peculiar resemblance to what Frodo Baggins once was. The reason why she is one of my favorites is because of her unflinching curiosity, which, one way or another, can lead her to a big denouement. The actress is spontaneous enough to captivate us, moreover, her character promises a lot… I hope she doesn't disappoint along the way.
Do the Rings of Power represent pure disappointment?
For fools it may be disappointing, but for me it is a work of art. There are flaws, of course: perhaps the fidelity to Tolkien's books is what sets the audience apart from the series. But, broadly speaking, we are facing a production of excellence, one that should be enjoyed from start to finish. The failure or not of this television series will depend on how the matter of elves, dwarves and men in a primitive Middle Earth continues to develop. There is still a long way to go, and yet, so far the road has been rewarding.
Obviously, this is just my humble opinion… ;-)
