Welcome 💖 Bienvenidos
! [English Version]
It is a portrait of male fragility and the lack of character in a man who becomes a victim of circumstances and accepts his fate to avoid being labelled a coward. Set in Rome during the COVID-19 lockdown, the film weaves a story that is funny, harrowing and packed with elements that make it feel very real.It was 100 minutes of entertainment that managed to captivate me, as I couldn’t guess where the plot was heading — well, apart from the extramarital affair, which I knew was going to happen.
It’s about a married couple who have been together for years without children. The wife, Sara, is a doctor passionate about her profession, with fertility issues and deeply in love with her husband; although she wants children, it’s not something that keeps her awake at night. On the other hand, there’s her husband Luca, a university philosophy lecturer who is practically a kept man, as Sara is the main breadwinner and receives financial support from her millionaire father. Luca feels he isn’t good enough for Sara and that the only thing he could give her is a child, given how long they’ve been together.
Their marriage seemed idyllic; they cared for and respected each other, but everything changed when a new neighbour moved in and began to seduce poor Luca 😇🫢. He spent most of his time shut away, and his wife was always exhausted, so he decided to complicate his life.
The neighbour, Amanda, had many strange traits that were too perfect to be true, and a mysterious past that comes to light at the end. This character used Luca as she pleased and manipulated everything to her advantage. In reality, all this stress is caused by this woman, and I think any man would fall into the clutches of a woman like that, although that doesn’t justify Luca’s infidelity.
The film has a dose of black humour that I like; the ending was very surprising, tying up all the loose ends with a satisfying find.
In conclusion, I think that sometimes we are capable of accepting slander against us as long as we come out as the heroes of the story. I’d Die for Her offers the viewer scenes of passion, psychological tension, murder, drama and humour, all in perfect balance. Honestly, it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a film so much; I recommend it and give it a 9 out of 10.
