One thing about slow-burn K-drama is that it makes you feel like you’re watching real life unfold. And that’s exactly what watching this one felt like. Just two people trying (and failing) to get love right over and over again. But, because of them, I think I’ll pause on Kdramas. I’m going back to my thrillers where heartbreaks are less.
Synopsis
This series follows Yeon Tae-seo (Park Jin-young) and Mo Eun-ah (Kim Min-ju), two young people who fall in love at 19 while dealing with their own personal struggles and family issues. Their relationship begins quietly but deeply, it is the kind where they become each other’s comfort in the middle of all the chaos.
But life does what it always does, it separates them. They go their different ways, chasing survival more than dreams, only to reunite ten years later as adults who have grown but not necessarily healed. What follows is a second chance at love, except this time, it’s heavier, messier, and filled with unresolved pain, bad timing, and choices that constantly pull them apart instead of bringing them together.
My Review and Rating(inhales and exhales)
Let me not lie, this drama started off beautifully. Stay with me!
The younger versions of Tae-seo and Eun-ah are soft, emotional, and actually believable. You could see why they fell for each other. But my problem started when they became adults. Because why did it suddenly feel like these two people were allergic to happiness?
My frustration is especially with Eun-ah. I need to say this clearly, Eun-ah stressed tf outta me. Like genuinely. I mean I understand trauma. I understand fear and I also understand not knowing what you want. But there’s a difference between being emotionally complex and just making decisions that leave everyone, including yourself, miserable.
She kept pulling away and making choices that didn’t make sense. Creating distance where there should have been communication. And the worst part is that Tae-seo wasn’t even the problem most of the time. Dude tried his best. Maybe not perfectly, but he tried. But Eun-ah? Oh heavens! It felt like every time things could finally go right, she would do something that just ruined it.
The relationship itself was beautiful but exhausting. This is not a romance that gives you butterflies, this one gives you stress. They love each other, that part is clear. But love alone is clearly not enough here.
The drama leans heavily into realism with all the missed timing, emotional baggage, life getting in the way and while I appreciate that, it also became frustrating to watch. Because at some point, I just wanted them to either be together properly or leave each other alone and find peace. But no. They kept circling each other like unfinished business. Then there’s the ending and I am still very mad. Let me just say it as it is, that ending annoyed me badly.
After everything, all the waiting, all the emotional stress, all the back and forth, I expected something satisfying. Not necessarily a perfect happy ending, but at least something clear. Instead, what I got was ambiguity and I just sat there being like “so, what now?”
I hate that ending so much because it made everything feel like what was the point of all that stupid suffering?
I think I have let it out a bit and now, so I’ll give credit where it’s due. The cinematography is beautiful. The acting is subtle and natural. The storytelling feels very real and grounded and the emotional tone is consistent. This drama actually builds its story through small, meaningful moments. But sometimes? Quiet storytelling needs a strong payoff and this one didn’t give me that.
Finally, this is one of those dramas that starts off like something special and then slowly turns into an emotional test of patience. It is very frustrating especially because the characters keep getting in their own way.
And that ending? I’m still not over it. Won’t be over it anytime soon!
