Hello there movie lovers and welcome to my blog :). As usual, today I am here to present to you my amateur review of a cinema production.
I am very excited to make this post because I am going to be writing on one of my favorite movie genres which is Horror. I'm not just going to talk about one movie today rather I will talk about three different movies that are very much related. These movies belong to the Fear Street Trilogy, a horror, slasher thriller that not a lot of people know about.
The Fear Street Trilogy was released back in July of 2021 but I heard about it from a friend in September. I found out that the movie is based on The Fear Street Book Series by R. L. Stine. I have not read any of the books but once I heard about the trilogy I quickly watched all three parts. The movies span about three and a half hours altogether and I have spent that much time seeing the movie. Was this trilogy worth all time I spent watching it? Well, let's find out.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994
This part of the story takes place in 1994 in the town of Shadyside, Ohio. Shadyside, which is haunted by a history of violent crimes has been dubbed the "Murder Capital USA". While Shadyside suffers from all the tragedy it is known for, its neighbor, Sunnyvale, prospers and is considered one of the best towns to live in. All the misfortune taking place in Shadyside causes its residents and other people to believe that the town has been cursed for centuries by the witch, Sarah Fier. Many people believe the curse is real but others think it's all just superstition. Still, there's no denying that something is very wrong about Shadyside and some unlucky residents are about to find out exactly what that is.
The movie starts right away with a seemingly senseless mass murder at the townhall. Soon after, we meet the teenagers, Deena, her brother Josh, Sam, Kate and Simon, who get caught up in the curse of Sarah Fier after disturbing the witch's grave. Because of this, they are hunted by several possessed henchmen. The kids fight to survive as they try to make sense of everything that is going on. Things get worse when one of them is possessed and tries to kill the others. To break the curse, they discover that Sarah Fier's body is missing a hand and they have to find it.
Who will survive the massacre? Will the kids be able to break the curse?

Following the events that occur in part 1, the survivors desperately seek answers as their ordeal is far from over. They meet a woman, C. Berman, who had experienced what they were going through 16 years earlier. In order to understand how to stop the curse, the woman tells them her story.
On a summer camp in 1978, young Shadyside and Sunnyvale residents are participating in some good ol' healthy summer competition. Everything goes south when many Shadysiders start getting murdered. In the middle of the bloody chaos are sisters Cindy and Ziggy Berman who discover the curse of Sarah Fier and try to stop it. The sisters find the witch's missing hand and bury it hoping it would break the curse but they are brutally attacked by possesed henchmen and one of them dies.

After meeting with C. Berman, the group retrieves Sarah Fier's missing hand hoping that reuniting it with her body will end the curse. When one of them reunites the hand with the body, she sees the past through the eyes of Sarah Fier discovering the truth behind the curse and how to end it.
In 1666, the town of Shadyside is a Pilgrim Settlement called Union with a couple of residents including Sarah Fier. All is well in Union until it isn't anymore. Some sort of plague hits the settlement affecting the crops and livestock. Things get much worse when a notable pastor brutally murders 12 Children and is killed as well. The people of union suspect witchcraft and, after a series of events, they accuse Sarah Fier who they capture and hang. However, before she is captured, Sarah Fier discovers some hidden truth about the land and swears to expose it.
Back in the present, the group understands the truth behind Sarah Fier's curse and how to put an end to it for good. They have to hurry before the henhemen get to them.
Will the group be able to stop this curse for real? What dangerous secrets would they uncover?

My Opinion on the trilogy/Mi opinión sobre la trilogía
I have said it in the past that I am a huge fan of the horror genre and normally I would gladly watch any horror movie recommended to me. Sadly, horror movies these days tend be generic, cliché and boring. After seeing a couple of uninteresting horror movies in 2020 I kinda lost my taste in horror. 2021 did not help at all with boring horror movies like Conjuring 3 and The Unholy. Given all the bad productions, I wasn't initially hyped to see Fear Street when I heard about it but after getting to know a little bit about it, I decided to give it a try. Sure enough, this trilogy was going to give me a different horror experience from what I had known for that year.
A type of horror I really don't like is that Slasher subgenre but Fear Street offers this subgenre in a very enjoyable way making the killings much more horrible and way more senseless. What makes the trilogy really good, though, is that very much needed extra layer of mystery. This isn't a horror movie where a demonic presence torments people with sudden strange events just because it feels like. This one will really keep on the edge of your seat wondering why all the misfortune was happening. Gradually, we get to understand what the curse of Sarah Fier is all about. This type of mystery will just make you go "wow" when you understand what's really happening and feel really bad for judging the initial "villain".
Of course the sudden and deep change of heart towards a protagonist or antagonist in a production is always brought by a great plot twist. I have seen many intended plot twists that were predictable and dry but the one in this trilogy was an actual twist. It is something that you won't see coming and will get you very angry and sad at the same time. You won't have even known that there would be a plot twist if I did not mention it here. Apart from the major plot twist in the last part, there are other twists that come throughout the story and none of them are predictable.

Another thing that I really like about this trilogy is the narrative style of the three different movies. I like how everything starts off so confusing before getting a little bit more simpler with just the question of "Why?". The story that seems to have become simpler then gets a little bit more complex. I really like how the story went from the present to way back in time to help our characters really unravel the entire mystery of the whole situation. We got to really understand the background of entire tragedy and suddenly, the reason behind the difference between Sunnyvale and Shadyside was much clearer. Many other horror movies just mention a cause and go with a vague idea of it. In my opinion, it was a good idea to make this a Trilogy and better yet to release all the movies in three weeks.
I also like how the last movie provided us with characters that were similar to the ones we had known from the first two movies. This particular element made the story very unique to me and was sort of like a combination of the first two parts. We were able to see the past through the eyes of a character we were used to. This style gets us a little bit more attached to the characters.
Speaking of characters, I really have to mention that Kiana Madeira did absolutely well with the characters, Deena and Sarah Fier. The actress really gave this trilogy the unforgettable spark that it really needed. Another actor that I think deserves a mention would be McCabe Slye who played the role of Tommy Slater who is arguable the most impactful and unforgettable serial killer among them all.
A very crucial thing that I like about this trilogy that many horror productions fall short of is the soundtracks and scores. Most horror movies focus on the horror aspect and so invest more on ominous soundtracks. Fear Street is different because there was a really healthy blend of ominous, melancholic and dramatic music throughout the movies. This made the trilogy less horror and more of a truly unforgettable story.

Fear Street is a trilogy that really anyone can watch. All three movies tell an epic story of Sarah Fier and a curse that has plagued Shadyside for over three centuries. I don't know if it is a good enough adaptation to the books but the movies are so good that you just cannot forget the experience.
