This week's spotlight is on Movies and TV Shows Community. I love the idea of building up more communities here in Hive and I'm even more into the idea of contributing quality content. When I saw the contest hosted by OCD I just had to join, my creative juices urged me to join!
I treat Movies and TV Shows as a representation or a simulation, if you will, of real life. I get easily invested in shows with characters that I'm drawn to. That's why for this contest, I prefer to answer question 3 -
Who are your favorite villains in movies or TV series and why?
I am drawn to strong, powerful and smart female characters. I find the opposite of them annoying. This must be because I've decided that it's more efficient if I learn from the characters and use their great traits in real life or maybe because I'm just too serious when it comes to letting the media I consume affect my real life. I don't really have an answer for this yet.
What I do have an answer for though, is why I find Blair Waldorf and Cersei Lannister irresistible, discount their being evil. These reasons are all based on the TV series Gossip Girl and Game of Thrones. If you're also a fan, let's stan on the comments section below. Well without further ado, let's get to them reasons, shall we?
They're Beautiful
Blair Waldorf is one of the Gossip Girl's muses - or gossip headline, however you want to put it. The Upper East Side's Queen B rules Constance Billard School for Girls before she set out to rule Monaco and Manhattan's high society. Her beauty attracted the likes of Chuck Bass (heir to self-made billionaire), Marcus Beaton (an English Lord) and Louis Grimaldi (Prince of Monaco). What I find interesting about her is that no matter the kind of validation she gets for how she looks, she always falls victim to comparing herself to Serena van der Woodsen - her bestfriend. It is interesting as well as relatable - part of the reason why I love the woman.
Cersei Lannister was known for her great beauty even as a young girl. She was born to a rich family and she expected and wanted to be married to royalty. This beauty married King Robert Baratheon and we know how that went. Frustrated and probably heartbroken from their wedding night as her husband called another woman's name, her feelings grew to bitter hatred when she lost her first son to Robert. Cersei's beauty must have been unlike any of the Seven Kingdom's muses, even her own brother went into an incestuous relationship with her.
They Love Immensely
No matter how insecure Blair is of Serena, she is very protective of her. She calls her out on her bad decisions and she doesn't hesitate to run to her when she is needed. She's also like this to her friends. She started the Non-Judging Breakfast Club with Serena, Chuck and Nate. Worthy of note would be how she fought hard for her relationship with Chuck Bass. While we could argue about the state of health of their relationship, it couldn't be denied how deeply she cares for Chuck that she was willing to go all in despite getting over the fact that Chuck basically sold her for a hotel.
Cersei would kill for her children. I don't intend for this to become the standard of how we should love the people we love but the point is Cersei loves none but her children. Her brother Tyrion even said that that is her only redeeming quality. When it comes to her children, we see the protective side of the Queen of The Seven Kingdoms - a rare sight to see.
They're Cunning
Minus the scheming and the ill intents, Queen B is brilliant. She aces her academics and brings her A game to whatever challenge she faces. She knows what she wants and she will stop at nothing to get it. She said "If you really want something, you don't stop for anyone or anything until you get it." She knows she's smart and talented but she doesn't place the fate of her goals on them and this is why she resorts to scheming and blackmailing just to make sure she gets her way.
Queen C also knows that she is smart but often her mistake is thinking that she is smarter than she really is. This is why some of her schemes push through while some, she has to resort to violence. She is ruthless when she does so.
They take charge of their Sexuality
Both know what they want out of life and in the bedroom. Queens B & C don't shy away from admitting that they want pleasure and they want this delivered. We all followed Queen B's sexual awakening and how she discovered that she was quite the sex kitten. Queen C? Well, it's gross but I we can let Jaime and Loras do the talking.
Their Fashion Sense is On Point
Queen B said -
Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It's movement, design and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we'd like to be.
It's not a mystery how Blair got her taste in fashion. Aside from the fact that she's part of Manhattan's elite, her mom Eleanor Waldorf is a fashion designer. Their relationship is not always of the ideal mother-daughter tandem, but Eleanor has certainly influenced our Queen B's eye for fashion.
The Queen of the Seven Kingdoms also has an eye and intentional purpose for fashion as well. She uses it to convey a message of her transformation. From the bright tones of her robes in the first season which conveys her belongingness to her sunny hometown, she shifts to bolder colors when she begins to take control. When she took over as the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, we see her don metallic armor embellishments. It could be her way of saying that she is fit to be queen.
Do you love or hate the baddest queens of Gossip Girl and Game of Thrones? Am I normal for saying that I'd still want them as friends? 😆
