And of course, after the Bollywood era, Korean, Taiwanese, and even Japanese dramas came in. Back then, what made it onto our television screens were long-running dramas with dozens of episodes. And now, we've been spoiled by short dramas. However, for some reason, I've been inspired to watch long-running dramas again, like I did in my teenage years, and luckily there's a new long-running drama with promising ratings. 20 per cent national ratings. This is clearly not an easy figure to achieve. What's more, the lead actor is Jung Il Woo, who hasn't taken on a project in a long time. So let's get straight to my review.
OUR GOLDEN DAYS
This story is very much centred on the lives of three people in their 30s. One of them is enjoying their career, another is just starting out, and the third is falling deeply into a phase of their career and life. This is the trio of Our Golden Days, consisting of Lee Ji-Hyeok (Jung Il-Woo), Ji Eun-O (Jung In-Sun), and Park Seong-Jae (Yoon Hyun-Min).
Lee Ji-Hyeok has just suffered a series of disasters in his life due to his own carelessness. He carries the burden and responsibility as the eldest child who wants to appear charismatic in the eyes of his family, but instead takes reckless steps that cause him to fall hard and hurt many people around him.
Meanwhile, Park Seong-Jae, the heir to his conglomerate father, is busy proving himself that he will reach the highest level of performance so that his personal life will not be interfered with by his father, as it was before.
Between these two handsome and promising men is the beautiful, loving, and hard-working Ji Eun-O. This trio develops a story into an adult-style love triangle. Eun-O has long liked Ji-Hyeok since he became her senior at university. Meanwhile, Ji-Hyeok has an inner conflict about how being a husband is not easy. He wants everything to run smoothly and does not want to be reckless about accepting Ji Eun-O. Eun-O also receives a bitter rejection from her senior. Meanwhile, Park-Seong-Jae openly tries to win Eun-O's heart, but is directly blocked by his friend, Jo-Hyeok. According to Ji-Hyeok, Park Seong-Jae should not be with Eun-O because he does not want Ji Eun-O to be hurt by Seong-Jae's family. These dynamics then lead the three of them into problem after problem, including problems with their respective families. The 50 episodes are definitely worth watching.
- Lee Ji-Hyeok (Jung Il-Woo)
As I mentioned briefly above, Lee Ji-Hyeok is a perfectionist. He wants to live a flawless life. If he is single, he will be financially stable and live a peaceful life. If he decides to become a father, he will be a responsible father and husband to his small family. Unfortunately, he is also stubborn and tends to be selfish. He rarely listens to the advice of others, even ignoring the advice of his parents.
- Park Seong-Jae (Yoon Hyun-Min)
Unlike his overly harsh and reckless friend, Seong-Jae is calmer and more cautious. He is the type of man who plans his life slowly but surely. Like a chess piece, he is a knight. I have always liked knights in chess; they are like warlords whose moves are unpredictable.
- Ji Eun-O (Jung In-Sun)
I think she is a good female centre character. She is confident, firm, and loving. She is willing to fight for anything she believes is right. She is willing to take risks for her loved ones. However, because she is so kind, she is easily taken advantage of and manipulated with kindness. Other than that, I like all of Eun-O's characters, especially in the scene where she confesses her feelings to Ji-Hyeok. That is maturity that doesn't wait around. Confess, finish, move on with life.
