I think it was in 2017 that Murder on the Orient Express was released starring Kenneth Branagh in the role as Hercule Poirot. There are few roles in the world I believe to me more complicated to take on than the role as Hercule Poirot, especially considering that everyone can see David Suchet in their heads when they think of Poirot. James Bond is way easier, considering that so many actors have had the role as James Bond and the main requirement is to be an action hero. But, to take on the role as Hercule Poirot is harder.
That is also why many people have had a hard time enjoying Kenneth Branagh in the role as Hercule Poirot (and also the director of Murder on the Orient Express and now Death on the Nile).
I try to "be easy", meaning that I tried to forget David Suchet, and if possible, just enjoy both the movies. I ended up enjoying Murder on the Orient Express, even though I kind of missed what I felt like the brilliancy of David Suchet in the role (even though I tried to forget about him).
At the end of the first movie, Hercule Poirot had to leave Russia as he had an invitation for Egypt. Well, that is where we meet him in the movie Death on the Nile.
Death on the Nile - is it worth it?
To be honest, if you liked the first movie, I am quite sure you will like this. If you like typical detective movies, I believe you will enjoy this one as well. Gal Gadot is a rich woman who has her wedding in Egypt. But, there is a very jealous lady who believes the man Gal Gadot just married should be hers. In order to escape this crazy woman, the husband suddenly brings the entire wedding party to a boat on the Nile in order to escape the crazy lady.
Will this solve the problems? Of course not! But, Hercule Poirot is on the case, and when someone is murdered on the boat, he really has to find out what has taken place.
So, should you watch Death on the Nile??
I enjoyed it, but I guess it was because I was with my wife and we ate nachos! Somehow I feel kind of ignorant towards the movie. It didn't succeed in making me feel like I had just watched an awesome movie. It was nice entertainment, but nothing more. Somehow, it was especially annoying to me that so much of the scenery was just terribly "studio" like and they didn't manage at all to bring the true Egyptian feeling to the movie. It was more like watching Minecraft with Egyptian scenery or something like that. And that kind of ruined a bit of the feeling for me.
The story was fine, Hercule Poirot was smart as always, but nothing more!
In other words, I don't regret watching it, but this is not a movie I would watch again!
At the start of the movie, we see how Hercule Poirot used his deductive skills to help fellow soldiers in war. I wonder what Hercule Poirot would see and if he would be able to predict the crypto market as well? If so, I would gladly have him write an article in the IP Address Guide or here on Hive to hear his thoughts...
