I watched the first season of Lupin earlier this year, starring Omar Sy in the role as Assane Diop, a man who has been very influenced by the books about Lupin, the gentleman burglar! The first season was great, and I was very much looking forward to the second season. As a result, I quickly started to stream it after I discovered it on Netflix. And do you know what? They actually managed to make a second season that I deemed to be even better than the first season! :)
What makes Lupin (season 2) so great?
Have you seen the first season yet? If not, then you should give it a try. If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, I believe you might end up enjoying the story of Lupin as well. But, instead of Assane Diop being the detective, he is a thief that has a mindset quite similar to that of Sherlock Holmes. He is always one step ahead, he can see what other people are unable to see, and he is capable of doing things most other people are incapable of. And that is what you can clearly see in the second season as well in which the story and the battle between Lupin and Hubert Pellegrini heat up.
The story is packed with cool examples of how Assane Diop is capable of predicting the future, always being one step in front, and that is why it is so enjoyable to watch his brilliance in this series.
The character of Guedira, the police officer who always seems to be one step ahead compared to the others (but who is always looked down on by his fellow officers). I especially liked it in one of the episodes in season 2 in which he claims that Lupin (Diop) cannot have been the man behind a certain deed, simply because Lupin would never do such a thing.
There are some logical failures...
In the end, in the final season, I have got to say that even though I loved it, there are quite a lot of logical failures or things that seem to be a little bit stupid. This is typical for all movies and TV series, and if someone had been a bit smarter or something, then everything would have fallen apart. But, in order to make the show go on, you and I will have to digest some of those stupidities that make the story carry on to the end.
Season 2 seems to be the final season!
One thing I truly enjoyed about the second season is the fact that it seems to give closure. What do I mean? The story came to an end. Of course, they might create some future season in which Lupin has to return to do something else, but the story that started in season one actually reached an end with the second season. It feels GOOOOOOOD!
All in all, this was a Netflix original series that I truly enjoyed!
My score: 9/10
