Hello, film lovers!
I hope youâre all well. Iâve been out of the loop for a while as Iâve started a new term at uni and havenât had much time for anything, but now that Iâve settled into the new timetable, Iâve found some time to watch the sequel to Blood Wedding, also known as Ready or Not. Itâs a sequel I wasnât expecting, but I was keen to see it because I really enjoyed the first one.
Now, Ready or Not 2 picks up exactly where the first film left off, with Grace sitting on the stairs of the mansion, having survived the Le Domas familyâs attempts to murder her; when they failed to kill her, they blew themselves up. Soon Grace is taken to A&E, where it is discovered that she has a younger sister named Faith, from whom she has been estranged for many years.
But whilst Grace is in A&E, she has no idea that by surviving the Le Domas family, she has triggered an ancient clause within Mr Le Bailâs organisation (because yes, they are an organised cult), which comes into effect whenever a victim survives the hunt.
The game is not over; it has given way to an even bloodier one, in which, alongside her sister, Grace must survive the council. The richest and most powerful families, who control the world. A council of which the Le Domas family was a part, and by eliminating Grace, she has thrown the âhigh seatâ into dispute. Now the four families will try to eliminate Grace, but eliminating Grace âGraciaâ and Faith âFeââwhom they refer to as âthe Irish Catholicsââwill not be so simple.
This sequel expands the universe of the first film by revealing that the Le Domas are not the only families to have made deals with Lord Le Bail (a demonic entity) and that now the families on the council will fight to the death for the highest seat on the council, a position that will fall to Grace if no one manages to eliminate her.
This is a bigger sequel, featuring wealthy families belonging to a sect and a global conspiracy. But I must say that this sequel was just as funny as the first, albeit less refined, yet more over-the-top, chaotic and featuring a brand of comic horror where seriousness was simply not an option.
Visually it was gory, but the dialogue was hilarious, especially Graceâs poker face as she said, âI just wanted a cigarette.â The film takes satire to a whole new level regarding rituals, cults and these theories about families controlling the world.
With Elijah Wood playing Mr Le Bailâs lawyer, Sarah Michelle Gellar playing the horror role and Bonnie Tylerâs âTotal Eclipse of the Heartâ playing in the background, whilst Grace gets into a brawl with her husbandâs ex using a bazooka, it was absolutely hilarious. This is a sequel I think is worth watching; I donât think it beats the first one, but it comes pretty close. Quite simply, everything here is on a bigger scale â more blood, more satire, more sarcasm and more parody â so I was thoroughly entertained and the final scenes were incredible.
