Eyes wide shut, was the posthumous and thirteenth feature film directed perhaps by one of the best directors of our cinematographic history, as it is Stanley KUBRICK, released on July 16, 1999, months after the death of KUBRICK. This film belongs to the Warner Bros. production company, where its executives had differences with Stanley KUBRICK, with the final result of the film, so it had to postpone its release.
The feature film was shot in 35 mm format, characterized by the film genres of drama and psychological thriller. On the other hand, this film is based on the novel by the author Arthur SCHNITZLER, with his book "Traumnovelle". As for the acting roles, Tom CRUISE and Nicole KIDMAN play important roles in each of their characters.

Eyes wide shut, fue el póstumo y decimotercera largometraje dirigido quizás por unos de los mejores directores de nuestra historia cinematográfica, como lo es Stanley KUBRIK, estrenada el 16 de julio de 1999, meses luego de la muerte de KUBRICK. Esta película pertenece a la productora Warner Bros, donde sus ejecutivos tuvieron diferencias con Stanley KUBRICK, con el resultado final del film, por lo que se tuvo que posponer su estreno.
El largometraje se grabó bajo el formato de 35 mm, caracterizado por los géneros cinematográficos de drama y thriller psicológico. Por otra parte está película es basada en la novela del autor Arthur SCHNITZLER, con su libro "Relato Soñado". En cuanto a los papeles actorales, tiene como importancia el rol de Tom CRUISE y Nicole KIDMAN, dentro de cada uno de sus personajes.
The film is set in New York City at Christmas time, where a married couple and their young daughter, of upper middle class social status, live, consisting of Dr. William Harford (Tom CRUISE), his wife Alice HARFORD (Nicole KIDMAN) and their daughter. This plot as well as influenced by the novel of Relato Soñado, touches the theme of this marriage in the midst of a conflict of love and hate, where each part in the idea of their most intense desires sexually and lustful, so they are committed to live with these conflicts. But it all begins when the couple attends a party, and each goes their own way, in search of sharing with other people, is there both Dr. William and his wife Alice, are related to other people, perhaps with reasons for a little more flirtation between them. After a series of circumstances and where William has an encounter with an old friend, who played the piano at the party, is motivated to want to attend another event where the friend should play the piano.
Given the insistence of William, his friend agrees to give him the address of a place and gives him a key to enter, this is when the Doctor embarks on a journey to what would be very mysterious to him, although previously he already felt to leave his comfort zone and seek certain desires experiments. As the main requirement demanded by William's friend, is to find a costume and a mask, in order to enter the event, so William buys the costume, and then go to the address he had, then on arrival he finds a big house and makes his entrance to the enclosure. His first impression was to see that he witnessed a mysterious ceremony, where all attendees wore masks, from where he saw his friend playing the piano, while a group of women did a strange dance, almost all naked.
El film está ambientado en una época decembrina en la ciudad de New York, donde viven un matrimonio con su pequeña hija, de un estatus de clase social media alta, conformados por el Doctor William Harford (Tom CRUISE), su esposa Alice HARFORD (Nicole KIDMAN) y su hija. Esta paraje así como influyó la novela de Relato Soñado, toca el tema de este matrimonio en medio de un conflicto de amor y odio, donde cada uno parte en la idea de sus deseos más intensos sexualmente y lujurioso, por lo que se ven comprometidos a convivir con estos conflictos. Pero todo comienza cuando la pareja asisten a una fiesta, y cada uno se va por su lado, en la búsqueda de compartir con otras personas, es ahí tanto el Doctor William y su esposa Alice, se relacionan con otras personas, quizás con motivos de un poco más de coqueteo entre ellos. Luego de una serie de circunstancia y donde William tienen un encuentro con un viejo amigo, quien tocaba el piano en la fiesta, se ve motivado en querer asistir a otro evento donde el amigo debe tocar el piano.
Dada la insistencia de William, su amigo accede a darle la dirección de un lugar y le facilita una clave para poder entrar, es aquí cuando el Doctor emprende un viaje a lo que sería muy misterioso para él, aunque ya previamente ya sentía salir de su zona de confort y buscar experimentos ciertos deseos. Como principal requisito exigido por el amigo de William, es que buscara un disfraz y una máscara, para así poder entrar al evento, es así que William compra el disfraz, para luego ir a la dirección que tenía, luego a su llegada se encuentra una gran casa y hace su entrada al recinto. Su primera impresión fue al ver que presenciaba como una ceremonia misteriosa, donde todos sus asistentes llevaban máscaras, de a donde vio a su amigo tocando el piano, mientras que un conjunto de mujeres hacían una danza extraña, casi todas desnudas.
At this point William, feels a bit of fear and confusion, feeling that uncertainty of being in this place unknown to him. He is interrogated and commits the woman, and even William is given the opportunity to leave the house and not return. William leaves confused to see everything that happened, but somehow he learns that the woman was found dead apparently by suicide, something that he doubts by chance because of what happened before, and from there he tries to find the reasons and motives, such as the relationship of the dead woman in the hands of the sect, where he himself attended the ceremony.
In his search, his result was not good, because he did not find any explanation, even from his friend, whom he tried to contact, but strangely disappeared. After being affected, he follows his course of life, but reaches the point that he breaks down in tears with his wife, explaining everything that happened in those days, his wife consoling him, gives in to tell him a compromising situation with a man, so the lustful desires of each of the characters are reaffirmed, in a marriage in full decadence, but they still think that it is sustained by the commitment to their daughter.
Ante tal acto, William sigue el curso dentro de la casa, y en su estancia lo recorre, encontrándose con instalaciones donde ve a muchas personas teniendo sexo, en medio de toda una orgia, pero ya llegó un punto donde una mujer llega y le advierte que se debe ir de la casa. En ese momento William no entiendo el por qué y aun así busca explicaciones con la mujer, que luego son llevados por unos hombres a lugar donde se concentraban todos los invitados, para ser interrogado por lo que parece el líder de tal ceremonia, que sabía que William no era una persona acta para esta circunstancia.
En este punto William, siente un poco de miedo y confusión, al sentir esa incertidumbre al estar en ese lugar desconocido para él. Es interrogado y compromete a la mujer, y aún William le dan la oportunidad de salir de la casa y no volver más. William se va confuso al ver visto todo lo sucedido, pero de alguna forma se entera que esa mujer fue encontrada muerta aparentemente por suicidio, algo que el duda por cierta casualidad por lo antes ocurrido, y desde ahí trata de encontrar las razones y motivos, como la relación de la muerta de la mujer en mano de la secta, donde él mismo asistió en la ceremonia.

The end of the film leaves us to interpret it in different ways, on the one hand you can say that it was all part of the imagination of Dr. William, visualizing all those repressed desires and what he thinks in his marriage, where he compromises that true intention between them, but on the other hand you can see that everything was possibly real, and each event is pressed with what is happening, thus having its consequences. But in the end it is the way KUBRICK made his feature films, a way for everyone to interpret his work in different perspectives.
En su búsqueda, su resultado no fue bueno, porque no encontró ninguna explicación, incluso ni de su amigo, a quien trató de contactar, pero extrañamente desapareció. Luego al verse afectado sigue su curso de vida, pero llega al punto que rompe en llanto con su esposa, explicándole todo lo ocurrido en esos días, su esposa consolando a él, cede a contarle una situación comprometedora con un hombre, por lo que se reafirma los deseos lujuriosos de cada uno de los personajes, en un matrimonio en plena decadencia, pero que aún piensan que se sostiene por el compromiso con su hija.
El final del film nos deja a interpretarla de diferentes formas, por una parte se puede decir que todo fue parte de la imaginación del Doctor William, visualizando todos esos deseos reprimidos y por lo que él piensa en su matrimonio, donde compromete esa verdadera intención entre ellos, pero por otra parte se puede ver que todo posiblemente fue real, y cada acontecimiento se apremia con lo que va ocurriendo, teniendo así sus consecuencias. Pero al final es la manera como KUBRICK realizaba sus largometrajes, una manera de que cada uno interpretará sus trabajos en diferentes perspectivas.
Many speak that this film was the main reason for the death of Stanley KUBRICK, because beyond adapting in a certain way the novel Dreamed Story, its motive is to expose an elite and sect, where they make unusual ceremonies, full of all an occult and mysterious symbology, where negative energies are emanated. We will never know if this was the real reason for KUBRICK's death when he was murdered, but there are certain facts that make us think a lot about this film.
Muchos hablan de que esta película fue el principal motivo de la muerte de Stanley KUBRICK, porque más allá de adaptar en cierta forma la novela Relato Soñado, su motivo es de exponer una élite y secta, donde hacen ceremonias poco usuales, llenos de toda una simbología ocultista y misteriosa, donde se emanan energías negativas. Nunca lo sabremos si este fue el verdadero motivo de muerte de KUBRICK al ser asesinado, pero hay ciertos datos que nos hacen pensar mucho sobre esta película.
Undoubtedly it is a fundamental part of the film, the incidental music in this film adapts to all the narrative aspects of the scenes, from the overture of the feature film with the musical composition of Dmitri Shostakovick, with his Walts No. 2, to the execution of the piece Mesto, rígido e cerimoniale, which forms that gloomy and mysterious atmosphere in the film. These are the two musical pieces that caught my attention within this cinematographic language, but also the others that are part of this work are also of great importance.
Sin duda alguna es parte fundamental de la película, la música incidental en este film le se adapta a todos los aspectos narrativo de las escenas, desde la obertura del largometraje con la composición musical de Dmitri Shostakóvick, con su Walts No. 2, hasta con la ejecución de la pieza Mesto, rígido e cerimoniale, que forma ese ambiente tétrico y misterioso en la película. Son de las dos piezas musicales que me llamaron la atención dentro de este lenguaje cinematográfico, pero que también los demás que forman en este trabajo también son de gran importancia.
