A few months ago, my wife showed me an article about the production of a feature film about metal music, and who supposedly would have as executive producer the well-known guitarist Tom Morello of the band Rage Against The Machine, and it really caught my attention and curiosity about how this film, titled Metal Lords, could be. I was in expectation of its release, but the months passed and the truth is that I forgot about this premise, until yesterday, when I was looking for the Netflix catalog, I found the surprise that the film was already available.
Beforehand, I can say that I did not like the film, it was not what I expected, from a film that has a relationship with Metal music, although I was always attentive to some details, such as the soundtrack music, the cinematographic language, the editing and of course the script of the same. And because of all this, I have formulated some criticisms, which are subject to my perspective, of course it should not be a reason for those who are interested in appreciating this film work.
Desde hace unos meses, mi esposa me mostró un artículo sobre la producción de un largometraje sobre la música metal, y quien suspuestamente tendría como productor ejecutivo al conocido guitarrista Tom Morello de la banda Rage Against The Machine, y de verdad me llamó la atención y curiosidad, de cómo pudiera ser dicho film, que se titula como Metal Lords. Estaba en la expectativas de su estreno, pero pasaron los meses y la verdad que me olvidé de esta premisa, hasta el día de ayer, en el momento que buscaba el catálogo de Netflix, me encontré con la sorpresa que ya estaba disponible la película.
De antemano, puede decir que no me gustó la película, no era lo que esperaba, de un film que tenga relación con la música Metal, aunque siempre estuve atento a unos detalles, como la música soundtrack, el lenguaje cinematográfico, el montaje y por supuesto el guión del mismo. Y debido a todo esto, he formulado algunas críticas, que van sujetas a mi perspectiva, por supuesto no debe ser motivo, para quienes se interesen en apreciar este trabajo cinematográfico.
First of all, I can say, the simple fact of exaggerating the stereotype of a person, who is called a metalhead, who is fond of and listens to the musical genre Metal and its variants. Reaching the point of ridiculing the image of anyone who listens to this type of music. Of course, within this stereotype, we see some of the main characters, such as the metalhead, who always dresses in black band shirts, with long hair, and in a certain way has admiration for the devil, just for the musical influence, as well as his arrogant and pedantic attitude, with certain elements of aggressiveness, like showing that metalheads are rude people. Also, as cataloging this character, as very closed, and that he is not willing to listen to any other type of music, other than Metal, aspect that is false. As a person who loves Metal music, I also like other types of music genres that have nothing to do with Metal.
On the other hand, this movie is rated 18+, even though the movie is about teenage characters of maybe 15-16 years old, you can see some violence on a smaller scale, foul language and scenes alluding to sex. To which I think it's just another movie that has a script tailored for young people, but played out in the most ridiculous way, so to speak. It was like watching American Pie, but in a metal version, and with a less elaborate plot.
En primer lugar, puedo decir, el simple hecho de exagerar el estereotipo de una persona, que se le llama metalero, quien es aficionado y escucha el género musical Metal y sus variantes. Llegando al punto de ridiculizar la imagen, de cualquier persona que escuche este tipo de música. Por supuesto dentro de ese estereotipo, vemos a unos de los personajes principales, como ese metalero, que siempre se viste con franelas negras de bandas, con cabello largo, y en que de cierta manera tiene admiración por el diablo, solo por la influencia musical, así como también su actitud soberbica y pedante, con ciertos elementos de agresividad, como mostrar que los metaleros son personas rudas. Asimismo, como catalogar a ese personaje, como muy cerrada, y que no está dispuesto a escuchar otro tipo de música, que no sea Metal, aspecto que es falso. Yo como persona, que me encanta la música Metal, también me agrada otros tipos de géneros musicales, que no tienen nada que ver con el Metal.
Por otra parte, esta película está clasificado para mayores de 18 años, aunque la película se trate de personajes adolescentes de quizás unos 15 y 16 años de edad, se puede apreciar cierta violencia a menor escala, un lenguaje soez y escenas alusivas con el sexo. A lo que pienso que es una película más, que tiene un guión adaptado para jóvenes, pero que se desarrolló de la manera más ridícula, por así decirlo. Era como ver American Pie, pero versión metalero, y con una trama menos trabajada.

The film is presented as a comic plot, where two young men initially want to form a metal band, but at the beginning they do not fit together because of their differences, and are in search of another member, who can play bass, which later is found, but it is a woman, and one of the members falls into the sexist dilemma, that a metal band can not have a woman as a member. Then develops the plot of that band, which strives to practice, to participate in a battle of the bands, a contest proposed by the school, where the young people in question attend. Basically this could be the synopsis of the film, although at the end it can be understood that one of the characters goes through a change and acceptance of these existing differences.
Sin embargo, se puede decir algunos puntos positivos, por un lado, un montaje bien realizado y adaptado con la música incidental, así como un buen manejo de los recursos técnicos, tales como la iluminación, la fotografía y sonido, es claro que es una película manejada por bueno técnicos, pero que falló en muchas ocasiones en el guión.
La película, se plantea como una trama cómica, donde dos jóvenes en principio quieren formar una banda de metal, pero a su comienzo no se acoplan por su diferencias, y están en la búsqueda de otro integrante, que pueda tocar el bajo, que más adelante lo encuentra, pero trata de una mujer, y unos de los integrantes cae en el dilema machista, de que una banda de metal, no pueden tener a una mujer como integrante. Luego se desarrolla la trama de esa banda, que se esfuerza en practicar, para participar en una batalla de bandas, concurso propuesto por el colegio, donde asisten los jóvenes en cuestión. Básicamente ese puede ser la sinopsis de la película, aunque al finalizar se puede entender, que unos de los personajes pasa por un cambio y aceptación de esas diferencias existentes.
Also, I can add the fact that I liked, the field of 4 musicians in the movie, as the presence in a short scene of the legendary singer Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, Scott Ian of Anthax and Kirk Hammett of Metallica, of course it is a thrill to see these characters in a movie, or at least me, who loves Metal music. While throughout the movie, you can listen to some musical classics from Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera and Black Sabbath, as well as the symbolic display of some posters of images of some metal bands.

Además, puedo agregar el hecho de haberme gustado, el campo de 4 músicos en la película, como la presencia en una escena corta del legendario cantante Rob Halford de Judas Priest, Tom Morello de Rage Against The Machine, Scott Ian de Anthax y Kirk Hammett de Metallica, por supuesto es una emoción ver a estos personajes en una película, o por lo menos mi persona, que me encanta la música Metal. Mientras que durante toda la película, se puede escuchar algunos clásicos musicales de Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera y Black Sabbath, así como la muestra simbólica de algunos posters de imágenes de algunas bandas de metal.
