NO SPOILERS I PROMISE
I don't know about you but when I see a Tyler Perry movie trailer I know some woman is about to get fucked up. That man has a flair for telling stories of deceit and oppression especially against women and he's sure good at it. From the likes of 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' to 'Confessions of a Marriage Counselor' and then the mind provoking 'Acrimony', you're sure to get riled up.
This thriller movie was released earlier in the year and centers on a court case involving murder. Grace Waters is accused of murdering her husband Shannon and she agrees she did kill him, her only desire was to be put in a prison close to where her son lives. Things take a different turn when the lawyer, Jasmine Bryant, assigned to her case believes Grace was only going to plead guilty to protect her son. She suspects Grace is innocent and probably covering up for her son.
She soon pushes Grace to tell her story to her and is determined to uncover the whole story despite threats from her boss Rory to just let the woman plead guilty or she gets fired. Rory says the office has no money to push the case and besides, Jasmine had never gone to court, talk more win a case. Jasmine ignores all the negativity and still pushes on to vindicate this well known good woman.
In Grace's story, she reveals to Jasmine how she met Shannon at an art exhibition through her friend Sarah. Shannon was way younger than her, probably the same age with her son but they instantly hit it off. Shannon said all the right words especially in his cool over the top baritone voice. Next thing, they got married and he moves in with her. It's all sweet and lovey at first until Shannon reveals a whole other monster personality.
Suddenly he's rude to her, comes home late, starts seeing other women and threatens her. That's not even the worst of it. Her office password is hacked and all the accounts she handles are cleared, she later finds out the mortgage to her house had been taken out, her whole life came crashing in a flash.
She finds out Shannon is behind all of her misfortune and is mad she fell for the entire scam that is this man. So did she really kill him? Why was she Shannon's target? How did her best friend Sarah introduce her to such a person? And will Jasmine win this case?
Shit is about to get real from here, you should watch it for yourself.
