To be fair, the headache had been brewing even before I saw the first movie but I think the movies stressed me and made it worse.
The first one was FINE WINE. I made a mental note of this one because it stars one of Nigeria's finest actors, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD). He's been a very good actor right from his younger years and he's eye candy even in his old age. He's currently 60 years old and doesn't even look it, so when I saw him looking even younger in the trailer, I was itching to watch the movie.
The Plot
RMD plays Mr. George, a 55 years old Forbes rich list entrepreneur who's a divorcee. He runs into a beautiful lady, Kaima who's about almost half his age and takes a liking to her.
They build a close friendship that subtly turns romantic in no time but a few hurdles stand in the way of their love.
My Thoughts
Throughout the movie I kept wondering what magic the makeup artist did to make RMD look that much younger. They really did a good job on that.
The story was bleh. Not as romantic as I heard it was and not realistic either. It was mostly a typical Nollywood plot - annoying mother pressuring daughter to get married, shitty boyfriend that doesn't value her and then the rich guy comes along, annoying staff of rich people, snorty office secretary, ugh. And ofcourse, slap some popular faces all over the cast to make it look like they know what they're doing.
I can't forget the shopping scene. Why does there have to be an extravagant shopping scene in every movie where the female protagonist gets glammed up for some guy. The worst is they spend nothing less than a minute on such useless things. It's so hard to like a Nigerian movies like this because they always want to portray a fake glam life that is not peculiar to us.
Don't bother watching it if you don't want to be bored. There's really no take-away other than I should stop punishing myself with fake glam Nigerian movies.
Movie #2
The second movie I saw was TANWA SAVAGE. This one is 20× worse than the first, my goodness! So much glam for a loose story. When I started it the characters looked all serious and it seemed like it was going to be an intense movie. My head was already throbbing and I should have stopped but I continued with what turned out to be the worst Nigerian movie I've seen this year.
I really don't know how to explain the plot properly because it was so shitty that a 12 year old writer would do a better job with the story.
It was about a guy, Jola who was desperate for a child and supposedly got his wife and two other women pregnant. The other women moved into his house and he had to be there for the three pregnant women. It turns out they weren't his babies and his wife cheated on him.
From the story to the acting, it's all a zero and makes no sense. Nobody should subject themselves to the pain of watching this. You can even go ahead to see FINE WINE but you see this Tanwa Savage? Don't try it.
I rate it a 0/10. A -3 even for worsening my headache.
