Some days are meant for watching chick-flicks and Pretty Smart came in handy one of those days. It's a sitcom with 10 episodes in its one season and each episode runs for 26 minutes tops. It stars Emily Osment as Chelsea, the booksmart sister who moves in with her very bubbly sister Claire (Olivia Macklin) and her equally bubbly roommates.
The Plot
Chelsea is a recent Harvard graduate and a writer who moves to Los Angeles and decides to crash at her sister's place for a few days before her boyfriend gets into town. She soon finds out her boyfriend dumped her with no intentions of ever moving to LA in the first place.
She's got no money, no job and nowhere to live. Her sister Claire, already super excited to have her over to sister-bond suggests she lives with her and her friends while she sorts herself out. This arrangement isn't exciting for Chelsea because she couldn't imagine living with her not-so-smart sister and her friends. However, she has no choice and eventually blends in with her new roommates.
In the process, she finds out so much about herself, how life is not all about her academic achievements and how important friendships are. She gets to understand the true meaning of happiness as she connects with her sister and new roommates.
My Thoughts
Everyone but Chelsea is dumb on this show and it's so overdone. It's not so funny but it's quite enjoyable. I particularly liked that each character came to some form of realization that made them better versions of themselves over the course of the show.
I've seen so many shows with the intelligent and dumb duo combo and this is not any better. You only get a few laughs and might lose interest after the first few episodes.
You can watch on Netflix if you're into chick-flicks.
