When I clicked on this movie, I hadn't read the synopsis but I was drawn because of the poster image. There's a picture of a tall woman and a really short man and you can almost figure out the whole movie from the poster alone. It seemed predictable and quirky, exactly what I was in the mood for.
Amor Sem Medida is a Brazillian romantic comedy starring Letícia Birkheuer, Elizângela, Juliana Paes and Leandro Hassum. It's one of several remakes of an Argentinian film called Lion Heart and was released on November 18, 2021 on Netflix. The whole movie is in Portuguese and runs for 1 hr 34 mins. I did watch it in English though.
The Plot
Ivana is a beautiful tall woman who's recently divorced and she's still in the process of sharing properties with her ex-husband who's also her partner at their law firm. She loses her phone at a restaurant and the man who finds it places a call to her home line which he finds on her phone.
They instantly hit it off on the phone like old friends and plan to meet for the return. Ivana, really excited about meeting this man like she was a schoolgirl all over again, is left in shock when she finally sees Ricardo. Her shock only lasts for a while as she easily warms up to this short, sweet man.
They both fall for each other after a day together and it all looks perfect until the opinion of others influences their decision to continue with their relationship.
My Thoughts
This was an entertaining watch because it was funny. The story was predictable as I earlier mentioned but I enjoyed it anyway. Ricardo's confidence was amazing to see, he never acted intimidated by Ivana's height when they met but then again, it's a short people thing to be that confident I guess.
I kept wondering about the actor's real height and if you google him now, you'd see his height is trending on google search. He's 1.8m tall in real life and not a very short man as portrayed in the movie. In some scenes, he looked like he was as tall as Ivana's waist, other times, he looked like he crossed her waist. That's the only loophole I noticed.
My favorite scene would be the conversation between Ivana and Ricardo when they first met. She had ordered a short espresso at the bar because she likes them short and when the waiter comes by their table to ask if she needs another short, she quickly says no, she would have a tall one this time. I found it hilarious 😅
The exchange between them afterwards showed good chemistry and I couldn't wait for them to get together already. Another scene I liked was the one with Ricardo and the pope, that pope is such an OG.
The annoying scenes were all of the ones with Danillo in it. Enough said.
I'd rate this an 8/10 movie and you can watch on Netflix.
