An airplane is hijacked by terrorists and it all looks fucked up until it gets even more fucked up when human-eating vampires complicate the hijacking.
Blood Red Sky is doing numbers on Netflix, getting to number 1 in several countries and still ranking top 10 weeks after its release. It's a horror, action movie directed by German director, Peter Thorwarth. It's primarily in English and some parts in German. The title is catchy and the storyline, unique.
Who's In It?
The film is set on an international flight so there are people of different nationalities on board played by actors that are actually of these nationalities. The actors aren't really popular which makes it kind of cool. The cast comprises Peri Baumeister (Nadja), Carl Anton Koch (Elias), Kais Setti, Kai Ivo Baulitz, Alexander Scheer, Graham McTavish, Dominic Purcell, Chidi Ajufo and Roland Moller.
The Plot
A sick Nadja is set to board a transatlantic flight to New York with her son Elias in order to get medical treatment for some form of cancerous disease. While Nadja injects her meds in the airport restroom, her very smart son strikes a conversation with another passenger who had helped him with his bags. They all board the flight and some time into the flight, a group of terrorists reveal themselves and hold the plane hostage.
Meanwhile, Nadja is between a rock and the blue sea as trying to take her meds can get her killed by the terrorists, and not taking them could also lead to her illness killing her. She however gets shot at soon after Elias tries to make a run for a safe space in the plane.
The hostage situation seems to work according to plan until the terrorists were about jumping out the plane after leaving the plane on autopilot and they notice it was no longer on autopilot. On getting back to the cockpit they find the door locked with supposedly dead Nadja inside. She eventually opens the door to give the terrorists a shock of their lives.
Apparently, Nadja was a blood-sucking vampire and shit was about to get real.
My Review
Now, this was worth watching no doubts. It's one of the best movies I've seen on Netflix and definitely surpasses my expectations. What a brilliant idea it was to throw in some vampires in an airplane hijacking movie. I liked that a popular face wasn't cast as the main character and then the mix of German and English.
It might be a horror, action thriller but what I liked most about it was the bond between Nadja and Elias. That's something that could not be missed on both characters. This mother and son duo where in sync all through the movie like no one could have done it better.
The other characters did an equally good job especially 'Eightball' the freakiest of them all was my favorite character. Just when you think, 'Oh shit, he won't do that', he goes ahead to do it.
If you like this genre, you'd definitely like this fast-paced film set to make your jaws drop in suspense.
