I find that picking a particular show I love the most is hard. When asked about my favourite anything, it feels like in the moment, my head decides to go blank. I love so many of them and it's hard to choose a particular one.
It's a relief that this contest allows for more than one tv show so I'm not in that dreaded 'favourite' situation right now. I know I have made a post about some tv shows I love in the past but for the sake of this post, I will only talk briefly about them.
INSECURE
Genre - Comedy, Drama
The first-ever TV series review I did in this community was about this show two years ago. As at that time, the penultimate season was on and I was as crazy about it as I was when I first saw the first season in 2017.
The show stars Issa Rae who plays Issa Dee, an awkward black girl in her late 20s trying to figure life out, dealing with money issues, relationship problems, and friendships.
My favourite thing about this show is how relatable it is. I was in my early 20s when I began watching it and the Issa character felt like me. It has been a wonderful experience following her story and seeing her grow over the course of the show.
I have grown just as much in the last five years and I'm proud of real-life Issa and her achievements, and how much her storytelling has influenced my adult life.
The fifth and final season aired in December last year and I was in tears seeing one of my best shows ever come to an end. I cried even more when I saw the finale documentary, seeing how much work the team put into the show all these years and how the production created job opportunities for so many thanks to Issa Rae.
If you like gal pal shows and a different spin on black community shows, I bet you'd like Insecure.
BIG BANG THEORY
Genre - Comedy
Big Bang Theory is one of those shows I'd bump into on TV and watch in bits for years. I only got to watch all seasons beginning to end recently on Netflix and boyyy was it fun. I love shows about friendships and this one did it for me.
My favourite characters are Sheldon, Penny and Amy. The other characters creep me out in a way but I find them funny too. I love the relationship between all the friends and how they genuinely care for one another even when they tend to be selfish sometimes.
The finale episode was one I had never watched before and let me tell you, I cried bloodshot red-eyed tears in the closing scenes. I was invested in the characters and their growth in all ramifications had me in my feelings. That's one thing with tv shows, the character development is evident and it's like watching a baby grow.
I like this show so much and I will love to see it again from the beginning, hopefully, Netflix doesn't take it off their platform soon.
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE
Genre - Reality TV
Apart from the fact that I had a little girl crush on the host, Frank Edoho, WWTBAM Nigeria was one game-show I always looked forward to. It was fun answering the questions on the show and I always attempted playing for the children's version.
The show went off for years and came back this month. It's still as fun but I don't think I want to go for it anymore now that I'm older. I don't feel as smart and well-versed as I was as kid, ironic isn't it? I'm older and should be smarter but that's not the case judging by how I don't get some of the questions on the show now.
I had been watching that of other countries but it hasn't been as relatable as that of Nigeria. It's still one of my favourite game shows and I'm glad it is back on TV.
OZARK
Genre - Crime, Drama
I started Ozark last month and finished it in a few weeks. It's one of those shows that makes me wonder why I never saw it earlier. I had seen jcrodriguez's review sometime ago and made a resolve to watch it because it was completely different from what I had thought.
I wasn't disappointed at all and I thoroughly enjoyed this show, enough to be one of my favourites. You should definitely see this if you haven't because the suspense and surprises pull you in.
It is about an average Joe kinda guy who launders money for a drug cartel. The operation is far from smooth and something shitty always seems to be going on. That has got to be my favourite thing about Ozark, there is always action and someone is always dying.
NIGERIAN IDOL
Genre - Reality TV
Currently, one show I love to see every week is the Nigerian version of Idols. I love love music reality shows and having a favourite contestant that I support. Nigerian Idol is no exception and the contestants this year are so good it's hard to support just one. It's down to six contestants this week and I'm rooting for all six of them.
It's amazing seeing young people who love music and singing reach for their dreams on live tv. There are several other shows like this and I like all of them. I also watch the international ones and I like them as much.
FRIENDS
Genre - Comedy
This post won't be complete if I don't mention F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I first watched all 10 seasons at 11 years old and I fell in love. I have rewatched it about two times since then and only finished watching again two weeks ago on Netflix.
It is the ultimate feel-good show about adult friendships and again, I loved to see their growth. My favourite characters were Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey. I also watched a spin-off of F.R.I.E.N.D.S starring Joey, I was so invested in the characters that I wanted to see other shows they were in.
This is one show that never gets old. I'm one of those proud weirdos that is a part of Facebook groups and follows pages about F.R.I.E.N.D.S and so many other shows I like. The memories remain fresh and I can have conversations with people who are superfans like myself.
These are some of the shows that I love and will always want to watch again asides from game shows or reality shows. Other shows I love are Prison Break, Dead To Me, The Bold Type, YOU, Emily In Paris, Peaky Blinders and so many others. The list is endless.
