El joven estadounidense Kurt Kunkle, es conductor de un taxi de viajes compartidos en una aplicación estilo Uber. Tiene 10 años tratando consecuentemente de hacerse un influencer famoso y viral, y ya desesperado por lograrlo, pierde todos los principios e idea un plan mortal, con un programa en vivo en las redes sociales que llama La Lección, convirtiéndose en un asesino en serie.
Saludos a todos y en especial a la Comunidad Películas y Programas de Televisión. Debo confesar que la razón principal para ver esta película fue que la protagonizaba nuestro Steve Harrington de Stranger Things, el actor estadounidense Joe Keery y es que me gusta chequear que los actores y actrices que me gustan logran enfrentar otros retos en cuanto a personajes y no ser encasillados en el papel que les dio fama. Tal cual el caso de Robert Pattinson que logra salirse de su papel de Edward Cullen y podemos disfrutar de otros matices; y como a veces me quedo esperando que pase con otros famosos y nada, pero no voy a hablar de ello en este momento.
Con un género mixto de suspenso, comedia y terror, confieso que fue algo difícil de digerir, ya que por lo general no me hace mucha gracia todo esto mezclado. En otras películas de terror que introducen algo de comedia, realmente me sacan de la trama. Sin embargo, en esta logra hacerlo sentir más trágico el propio hecho que la comedia transmite es lo superficial e insensible del punto de vista del protagonista, y lo factible que es ese tipo de comportamiento en nuestra sociedad, es un hecho de verdad aterrador. Me recuerda cuando el Joker dice: Qué tal otro chiste Murray?, y bueno realmente no es gracioso...
Esta película estadounidense se estrenó en el 2020, y está dirigida por el director y escritor ucraniano Eugene Kotlyarenko.
La película empieza con Kurt muy entusiasta haciendo un Draw My Life, y desde ya me atrapa la actuación de Joe Keery, ya que tiene ese aire de youtuber realmente, su tono de voz, su apariencia muy relajado y en dominio de lo que es su oratoria hacia sus seguidores, bueno los pocos que tiene. Luego, comienza a armar por lo menos seis cámaras dentro de su carro, más la cámara del celular, para comenzar su día de trabajo realizando un En Vivo, en el que mostrará cómo envenena con botellas de agua y mata a sus pasajeros, generando un espectáculo que él asegura será un éxito y lo hará ganar muchos seguidores y hacerse viral. Realmente logra meterse en el personaje, trasmite esa superficialidad que molesta, que te dice que algo no está bien con ese chico.
Kurt lleva a cabo su plan y va matando a sus pasajeros, ofreciéndoles las botellas de agua que intervino y envenenó, y también de otras formas muy perturbadoras. Constantemente chequea si esto lo hace subir su número de seguidores, pero no le va funcionando como pensó. Kurt se va desesperando y desquiciando rápidamente
En uno de sus viajes realiza la modalidad de compartir el taxi, la cual es más económica que la privada y sube a dos pasajeros, entre ellos a una comediante llamada Jessie, que tiene muchos y quien es la coprotagonista de esta película, y con quien se va a desencadenar al máximo la trama y el final. El clímax y final de la película son bastantes perturbadores, no solo por la trama per se, sino también porque como espectador sientes cómo las situaciones planteadas te han tocado en algún momento. Claro al estar conscientes de nuestros pensamientos, acciones y consecuencias, no nos dejamos sobrepasar, pero la naturaleza de los deseos de notoriedad y reconocimiento ciertamente son genuinos y logras empatizar en ese sentido.
Bueno, no les he contado tanto realmente. Les recomiendo que vean la película para que puedan vivirla y experimentarla desde sus puntos de vista. Spree no pretende ser aleccionadora de forma primaria, ya que el mensaje es una crítica a la sociedad actual que le da muchísima importancia a las redes sociales, a la cantidad de seguidores, seguidores que ni conocen, donde no hay relaciones verdaderas, no hay un contacto real entre las personas, ni hay empatía, todos están sumergidos en su individualidad y en su vanidad.
De hecho en Spree no hay profundidad en ningún personaje, y eso es aterrador, nos presenta a una sociedad bastante caótica en ese sentido, y lo aterrador es lo factible que es ese escenario. ¿Cuántos Kurt ya han hecho daño? ¿Cuántas personas se siente frustradas por no ser populares? ¿Cuántas veces al día nosotros mismos, revisamos el teléfono a ver cuántos Likes tienen nuestras publicaciones y cómo superamos el no alcanzar nuestras metas?
Una de las críticas que leí sobre Spree es precisamente que no se desarrollaron los personajes lo suficiente, ni siquiera los protagonistas, pero mi lectura al respecto es que justamente eso es lo que pretendió la película, que se sienta que no es posible alcanzar y tocar las vidas de los personajes. Todos viven en una falsa realidad, el personaje de Jessie casi al final de la película parecía que iba a realizar esa transformación consciente, pero no lo hace, no logra escapar de esa fijación por la notoriedad y la fama.
Este tipo de películas que yo las llamo "películas de millennials" por el tema de las tecnologías y las redes sociales, se notan diferencias en cuanto a los medios o los recursos en que se basan. Por ejemplo, en Spree se nota que las personas tienen conocimiento de la censura en sus videos, de las palabras o los mensajes que pueden perjudicarlos en sus publicaciones o que afecten el criterio del público hacia ellos, en temas como racismo, feminismo, acoso, política, etc. Esto no lo había visto en otras películas, de manera que se nota una cierta madurez en cuanto a la manera de usar la redes sociales. Sin embargo, el problema en nuestra sociedad no es de forma, es de fondo, pero la superficialidad no nos permite tocar el fondo de los problemas. Bueno, esto es una opinión personal absolutamente, y muy debatible su análisis filosófico.
Pero es que el mensaje de Pree se vuelve muy personal o subjetivo, ya que no tiene un mensaje directo de lo que está mal, ni de cómo manejarlo, ni siquiera hay un buen ejemplo en la película. El mensaje y reflexión lo hacemos cada uno, de acuerdo a nuestra capacidad de ver un problema, de analizarlo, y es aquí donde se vuelve aterrador, cuando lo analizas y ves lo factible que es esta distorsión de la sociedad, ya al nivel planteado en la película.
El individualismo, la vanidad, la falta de empatía, la locura, etc. son los verdaderos villanos, y todos en mayor o menor grado lo hemos experimentado en nuestras vidas.
Los invito a ver la película, no se preocupen, no les conté tanto como parece, hay mucho que ver en Spree, y pueden tener su propia apreciación y devolución.

With a mixed genre of suspense, comedy and horror, I confess that it was somewhat difficult to digest, since in general I do not like all this mixed up. In other horror movies that introduce some comedy, they really take me out of the plot. However, in this one he manages to make it feel more tragic the very fact that the comedy conveys is how superficial and insensitive the protagonist's point of view is, and how feasible this type of behavior is in our society, it is a truly terrifying fact. It reminds me of when the Joker says: How about another Murray joke, and well it's really not funny...

The movie starts with Kurt very enthusiastic doing a Draw My Life, and from now on I'm hooked by Joe Keery's performance, since he really has that youtuber air, his tone of voice , his very relaxed appearance and in command of what his oratory is towards his followers, well the few he has. Then, he begins to set up at least six cameras inside his car, plus the cell phone camera, to start his work day doing a Live, in which he will show how he poisons with bottles of water and kills his passengers, generating a show that he assures will be a success and will make him gain many followers and go viral. He really manages to get into the character, he transmits that superficiality that bothers you, that tells you that something is not right with that boy.
Kurt carries out his plan and kills his passengers, offering them the bottles of water he intervened and poisoned, and in other very disturbing ways as well. He constantly checks to see if this will increase his follower count, but it's not working out like he thought. Kurt gets desperate and unhinged quickly.
On one of his trips, he uses the shared taxi modality, which is cheaper than the private one, and takes two passengers, including a comedian named Jessie, who has many and who is the co-star of this film, and with whom the plot and the ending will be triggered to the fullest. The climax and ending of the film are quite disturbing, not only because of the plot per se, but also because as a viewer you feel how the situations raised have touched you at some point. Of course, being aware of our thoughts, actions and consequences, we do not let ourselves be overwhelmed, but the nature of the desire for notoriety and recognition is certainly genuine and you manage to empathize in that sense.
Well, I haven't really told you that much. I recommend that you watch the film so that you can live it and experience it from their points of view. Spree does not intend to be instructive in a primary way, since the message is a criticism of today's society that gives great importance to social networks, to the number of followers, followers who do not even know, where there are no true relationships, there is no real contact between people, nor is there empathy, everyone is immersed in their individuality and vanity.
In fact in Spree there is no depth in any character, and that is terrifying, it presents us with a quite chaotic society in that sense, and what is terrifying is how feasible that scenario is. How many Kurts have already done damage? How many people are frustrated by not being popular? How many times a day do we ourselves check our phones to see how many likes our posts have and how we overcome not reaching our goals?
One of the criticisms I read about Spree is precisely that the characters were not developed enough, not even the protagonists, but my reading on the matter is that this is precisely what the film intended, that it feels that it is not possible to reach and touch the lives of the characters. Everyone lives in a false reality, Jessie's character near the end of the movie seemed like she was going to make that conscious transformation, but she doesn't, she can't escape this fixation on notoriety and fame.
These types of movies that I call "millennial movies" because of the technology and social networks, differences are noted in terms of the media or resources on which they are based. For example, in Spree it is noted that people are aware of the censorship in their videos, of the words or messages that can harm them in their publications or that affect the public's opinion towards them, on topics such as racism, feminism, harassment, politics etc I had not seen this in other films, so a certain maturity is noticeable in terms of the way of using social networks. However, the problem in our society is not one of form, it is of substance, but superficiality does not allow us to touch the bottom of the problems. Well, this is absolutely a personal opinion, and its philosophical analysis is highly debatable.
But it's just that Pree's message becomes very personal or subjective, as she doesn't have a direct message of what's wrong, or how to deal with it, there's not even a good example in the movie. Each one of us does the message and reflection, according to our ability to see a problem, to analyze it, and this is where it becomes terrifying, when you analyze it and see how feasible this distortion of society is, already at the level raised in the movie.
Individualism, vanity, lack of empathy, madness, etc. they are the real villains, and we have all experienced it to a greater or lesser degree in our lives.
