I only became aware of Elizabeth Holmes' case during the time of her trial, when I saw several reviews and news about her and her company Theranos, the scam on big investors, and the image of a strong, white, blonde woman with a deep voice who always dressed in black like Steve Jobs was quite striking.

Today we have a lot of information and also films and series about the stories of these big companies and corporations, such as the history of Google, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, Disney, Tesla, Nike, Adidas, McDonald's, etc.

Del caso de Elizabeth Holmes tuve conocimiento solo durante la época de su juicio, cuando vi varias reseñas y noticias sobre ella y su empresa Theranos, la estafa a los grandes inversores y fue bastante llamativa la imagen de mujer fuerte, blanca, rubia, de voz grave que vestía siempre de negro como Steve Jobs.

Hoy disponemos de mucha información y también películas y series sobre las historias de estas grandes empresas y corporaciones, tales como la historia de Google, Facebook, Youtube, Amazon, Disney, Tesla, Nike, Adidas, McDonald´s, etc.

This miniseries capitalizes on our interest not only in the history of big brands and companies, but also our taste for cases of real criminals and real scams such as the parties that were scams, the Tinder scammers, etc.

Of course, it is always important to view these films or series more objectively, to know who is telling this story and what it shows us. We must do personal research so as not to take the bait as it is.

Esta miniserie capitaliza nuestro interés no solo en la historia de las grandes marcas y empresas, sino nuestro gusto por casos de criminales reales y de estafas reales como el de las fiestas que fueron estafas, los estafadores de Tinder, etc.

Por supuesto, siempre es importante ver con más objetividad estas películas o series, saber quien está contando esta historia y que es lo que nos muestra. Debemos realizar una investigación personal para no comernos el dulce tal cual.

I learned about the Dropout miniseries late, as I recently watched it, but it premiered in 2022.

It is available on Disney Plus and stars Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes.

This miniseries tells us as its full name says: The Dropout: Rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes; this story begins from Elizabeth's childhood when she was already very clear about the purpose of wanting to be the CEO of a Company that would revolutionize the health industry.

Tarde supe sobre la miniserie Dropout, ya que recientemente la vi, pero ella se estrenó en el 2022. Está disponibles en Disney Plus y está protagonizada por Amanda Seyfried como Elizabeth Holmes.

Esta miniserie nos narra como dice su nombre completo: The Dropout: Auge y caída de Elizabeth Holmes; esta historia comienza desde la infancia de Elizabeth cuando ya tenía muy claro el propósito de querer ser la CEO de una Empresa que revolucionaría la industria de la salud.

Elizabeth Holmes dropped out of Stanford University at 19 and asked her parents to invest her college money into funding her biotechnology company, which had the vision of offering equipment that would allow us to perform different blood tests, from the comfort of our home.

Of course, this concept went through several changes, and all the financing required for each step was obtained by Elizabeth fraudulently, lying about her advances in said devices, their effectiveness, contracts with pharmaceutical companies that she did not really have, etc.

Elizabeth Holmes dejó la Universidad de Stanford a los 19 años y le pide a sus padres que inviertan el dinero de su carrera en financiar su empresa de biotecnología, la cual tenía la visión de ofrecer equipos que nos permitan realizar distintos análisis de sangre, desde la comodidad de nuestro hogar.

Por supuesto que este concepto pasa por varios cambios, y todo el financiamiento que requería para cada paso, lo logró Elizabeth de forma fraudulenta, mintiendo sobre sus avances en dichos dispositivos, la efectividad, contratos con empresas Farmacéuticas que realmente no tenía, etc.

Along the way, Elizabeth will meet university professors who supported her, but also a teacher who fought to expose her fraud. Company employees who suffered abuse and exploitation in order to achieve a result. Also, external people such as journalists who were following the company, former employees, etc.

We will also meet Sunny Balwani, who is believed to be Elizabeth's partner, an investor and Director at one stage of the company, and of course involved in the entire fraudulent deception of Theranos.

En este camino Elizabeth conoceremos a profesores universitarios que la apoyaron, pero también a una profesora que luchó para desenmascarar su fraude. Trabajadores de la empresa que sufrieron los abusos y explotación por llegar a un resultado. También a personas externas como a periodistas que estuvieron haciendo seguimiento a la empresa, extrabajadores, etc.

Bien de cerca conoceremos también a Sunny Balwani, quien sería la pareja sentimental de Elizabeth, inversionista y Director en una etapa de la empresa, y por supuesto involucrado en toda el engaño fraudulento de Theranos.

• The best part is absolutely Amanda Seyfried's performance, it is a spectacular performance, where she showed us exactly the Elizabeth Holmes we saw in interviews and newscasts. She even added the deep tone of Elizabeth's voice when she did it to look more professional and add confidence and credibility for investors, it was very good.

• I liked that they really showed the flaws of each idea, the flaws of the prototypes, the opinions of the professionals who said a resounding No to Elizabeth's ideas, that is, they did not minimize those facts.

• Lo mejor es absolutamente la actuación de Amanda Seyfried, es una actuación espectacular, donde nos mostró tal cual a esa Elizabeth Holmes que vimos en las entrevistas y noticieros. Incluso, le aportó el tono grave de la voz de Elizabeth cuando ella lo hizo para verse más profesional y agregar confianza y credibilidad para los inversores, le quedó muy bien.

• Me gustó que realmente mostraran los fallos de cada idea, los fallos de los prototipos, las opiniones de los profesionales que dijeron un rotundo No a las ideas de Elizabeth, es decir que no minimizaron esos hechos.

• The way some characters entered and then simply left the series. Perhaps it was necessary to add more chapters to let us know more about those characters who, although they are secondary, did have an impact on the real story and on the construction of the fraud case.

• This series did not cover the facts of the lawsuits, we only know about them at the end from the paragraphs that appear at the end. But I would have liked to see more about how Elizabeth Holmes was brought to trial.

• La forma como entraron algunos personajes y luego simplemente salían de la serie. Tal vez era necesario agregar más capítulos para dejarnos conocer más a esos personajes que aunque son secundarios, si tuvieron incidencia en la historia real y en la construcción del caso de fraude.

• Esta serie no abarcó los hechos de las demandas, solo lo sabemos al final por los párrafos que salen al terminar. Pero me hubiese gustado ver más sobre como se logró llevar a juicio a Elizabeth Holmes.

In addition, what the Elizabeth Holmes case leaves us with is very important, regarding the independent verification that investors and the supervisory bodies of these companies must do; and the importance of preparing ourselves professionally to be at the head of companies that should not be improvised since they have the health and lives of thousands of people in their hands.

Por supuesto que la recomiendo, podrás conocer mejor todo el caso de Theranos y Elizabeth Holmes, y tendrás más porque ya hoy sabemos que le dieron en el año 2023 sentencia de 11 años de prisión, más una multa económica, que para el momento de la serie no había sucedido.

Además, es muy importante lo que nos deja de aprendizaje el caso de Elizabeth Holmes, sobre la verificación independiente que deben hacer los inversores y los organismos supervisores de estas compañías; y la importancia de prepararnos profesionalmente para estar al frente de empresas que no debe improvisar ya que tienen en sus manos la salud y la vida de miles de personas.
