How much data is too much data? Do you ever ask yourself this question about the information you’re giving away to centralized databases every single day? I sometimes do...
This morning, I first woke up around 5:30 AM. After a quick trip to the bathroom, I unplugged my iPhone from charging but didn’t open the screen or check any apps. I wanted to go back to sleep, and if I had started scrolling, my sleep would’ve been ruined. I finally got up at 10 AM.
Not ideal, I know. But what caught my attention was that, by the time I actually picked up my phone, it had already drained about 1% of the battery—even though I hadn’t touched it. That means something was running in the background. And no, it wasn’t just the operating system.
This thing is constantly exchanging data with app servers. Most people either don’t notice or don’t care. But when we talk about an Orwellian state creeping into our lives, let’s be honest—it’s already here.
Ever noticed how, after chatting about something near your phone or mentioning a product in a message, ads for that exact thing pop up? Happens all the time to people who still use Facebook, Instagram, or both.
I quit Facebook over seven years ago—not because I was super concerned about my data back then, but because I realized how fake that world was. I didn’t want to be part of it. Plus, I hated Facebook Messenger. It made me available for random chats with anyone on my list, and that was just annoying.
The truth is, we’re building digital identities without even realizing it. Most of us aren’t conscious of the traces we leave online. In real life, our identity markers are pretty limited—purchases, work attendance, maybe some official records.
But in the digital world, we’re leaving footprints 24/7. Sometimes, we even volunteer our own thoughts and feelings. No wonder “the elites” are so damn good at predicting us. They’ve got the data, and with AI these days, not using it would be a waste.
I know people who are more active online than they are in real life. That sucks, at least in my opinion. But what can I do? I’ve stopped trying to change the world. If they want to feed the modern FBI all their data, let them.
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
