Many young people nowadays are making the mistake of spending lavishly to impress others.
This step will not lead to any investment intention in the future.
Sometimes we think the future is far away, but before we know it, the future is right behind us within a few years.
In my opinion, two main things influence young people to impress. They are peer pressure and society pressure.
The above are the determinants of showing off when you succumb to them. Then you will have some problems investing in the future.
Peer pressure
This is a common belief that one must act in the same way as others in the same age and social group to be loved by them.
For example, let's say your peer group spends a lot of money every Friday at the club. But if you choose to stay out of the clubs or spend lavishly like them, they will call you a lot of names.
I was in a similar situation when I first moved to Lagos, I was employed in a construction company.
My co-workers reserved a VIP seat for themselves in the clubhouse. I was invited to the club so I tried it out for a month.
I figured if I continued with them I would use up my entire salary in a single week. As a result, I stopped dating them, but they named me.
I didn't care, I was focused on my work and maintaining good savings plans.
Society pressure
This describes how a community affects a person.
It can be in terms of social standards and cultural expectations etc.
It can also come from family pressure being mounted on someone.
I will use my country as an example after having a good-paying job. You are expected to get married after a short time.
The community doesn't care, you may need to have some savings before you can start a family once you have a good-paying job.
Not only that, you are expected to spend lavishly on your wedding. It's a big party here, a lot of young guys are paying their debts after a year of marriage.
Because they want to show the world that they have a standard wedding.
This has affected a lot of savings plans if you give in to company pressure. It will be difficult for you to invest.
Imagine a young guy who saved for a year and a few months to spend everything on a wedding ceremony.
After the wedding ceremony, he will now be back to square one and now he will become broke.
In conclusion, make some investment plans for the future rather than impressing others. There are several investment strategies out there that will help your future.
Just imagine investing for the next 10 years, it would be huge money. No investment is small, start with what you have now.
