One part humble brag, one part how to.
Contributing to networks should be a two way street, like most things in life the more you put in the more you get back. A social platform like LeoFinance.io is no exception to this rule.
If you want to maximize the use of your time, and get the most bang for your buck I challenge you to level up your engagement. It's always been an area that I've tried to make the most of ever since I had that ah-ha moment when I discovered how traditional social platforms use engagement within their algorithms for content discovery.
LeoFinance doesn't quite work in the same way, but non the less engaging with people on the platform adds a great deal of value to the network.
Engagement Adds Value to the Platform
Sometimes I think it's easy to forget that there are humans on the other end of each post. Real live humans each with their own experiences, desires, fears, expectations, and ideas.
Different opinions and diversity is valuable.
If everyone on planet earth had the same opinions, humans would be royally screwed! This doesn't mean we need to battle each other online every chance we get. To get the most from this diversity requires people to have a mix of growth mind, a little patients, and the tact to contribute constructively.
I'm not perfect, I've definitely been that person jumping on someone out of left field in the comments. It's a bad habit for sure but it can be broken.
It's for this reason I haven't used Facebook in nearly 3 years. Toxic echo chambers are not productive and often not constructive.
Diversity aside, I think we all know that engaging with each other through comments is how we become familiar with each other. We see who is active, who is participating, we get to know people through a digital medium, expanding our networks.
Build Your Network
The more one actively participates and engages the larger your network grows. If I never reach out to anyone, no one will know I even exist. Maybe they see some posts but the human connection just isn't there unless an effort is made to engage.
Once you're engaging regularly watch your network grow. People have a chance to get to know a little bit more about you, or get a sense of your character or personality, it's a connection.
We live in an ever growing digital world, where more and more communication is happening digitally. Whether this is a good thing or not, it's happening, and we've seen how events like a global pandemic have accelerated this adoption of digital communication.
Engaging with people is how we can thrive in this new digital world. Same goes for non digital obviously, to grow your network you need to put yourself out there, meet people, have conversations, be social. In the digital world it's no different right.
How To
My personal routine is to comment on almost all posts that I read and upvote, I think that's a good start. It's not all the time but I'm trying to make it most of the time.
For me it's not enough to just vote, but take a minute to drop a comment, it's more human and let's people know the post has actually been read. From there a discussion could ensue.
Something I've done for a long time is make the effort to respond to every comment I receive.
Even if it's a simple thanks for stopping by. Two way communication. Maybe this is stems from my professional career where it's critical that I'm an engaged communicator. If I receive an email I always reply letting the sender know that it's been received and acknowledged. Maybe there's action items maybe not, regardless I close the loop or mention next steps. But remember I come from a corporate background that is cut throat, working in a competitive industry in the most comparative city in the country. We play to win.
One final tip, if you're finding it hard to keep track of engagements go under your profile and click on "replies".
I'm sure you're somewhat familiar with this feature but it's certainly a convenient way for you to check on comments and see what you've responded to and what you haven't. I make an effort to check this at least once a day and see that I've respondent to all comments.
Humble Brag
Earlier this month kicked off a really cool initiative that tracks engagement within the LeoFinance.io platform. You can find that post here.
On a weekly basis he is sharing data on the platforms top 100 engagers, give his account a follow if you're not already and take a look through the list of the top participants.
The LeoFinance Engagement initiative gives all user a score based on various engagement activities, assigning value to things like posting, comments, replaying to comments, comments made outside of your own posts, length of comments etc. Clearly has given this a considerable amount of thought in an effort to build what I would describe as a well rounded set of engagement metrics.
2 Week in row I've been on the second page and hanging within the top 40!
Definitely a pleasant surprise to see that I'm ranking for engagement, I had a feeling I would be in the top 100 just not sure if near the top of bottom.
Like I said ever since I had my ah-ha moment years ago I've been in the habit of asking questions, commenting, replying to comments, and genuinely making efforts to connect with the humans behind the posts.
Engagement Challenge
I'll wrap up this post with a simple challenge. If you're not within the top 100 engagers I challenge you to climb the ranks over the next week or two and see if you can make an appearance.
After all I think it's engagement that makes this platform come alive, makes it thrive, and makes it a valuable place to spend our precious time.
Ciao for now,
