Recognizing these contradictions, alternative distributions align more faithfully with the original Unix-inspired principles. Notable among these is Artix Linux, a fork of Arch that eliminates systemd in favor of OpenRC, runit, s6, or dinit—all of which adhere to traditional service management models.
Artix retains the same repositories, package management tools (pacman), and documentation but reverts to simple, script-based service supervision. With runit, for example, services are managed as directories with text-based logs and supervised processes, following the Unix ideal of transparency and minimal abstraction.
