We are at last days of 2025. It looks difficult for the Hang Seng Index to get over 26,000 points.
HSi is at 25,733 Points at the moment of this post, less than one hour before closing; although the news are sounding a bit positive.
The index made a shy, cautious move upward at the start of what promises to be a light-trading week ahead of Christmas.
π China & Hong Kong Stocks Rise Amid Holiday Cheer & Hainan Trade Buzz β But Expect Quieter Trading Ahead!
Source: Reuters, Monday, December 22, 2025
Good Monday, market watchers! π
China and Hong Kong stocks kicked off the week with a positive surge on Monday, buoyed by signs of continued money inflows and excitement surrounding the creation of a new free trade port in tropical Hainan Island.
By lunch break:
- CSI300 Index (399300): +0.93%
- Shanghai Composite (000001): +0.68%
- Hang Seng Index (.HSI): +0.2%
Some individual stocks saw even bigger jumps β like 601888 (+10.00%) and 600221 (+9.83%) β reflecting strong investor sentiment around regional development and capital flows.
π But hereβs the holiday reality check:
With Christmas just around the corner (yes, itβs that time again!), trading volumes are likely to thin out significantly over the next few days. Many traders and institutions will be winding down operations, attending parties, or heading home for family gatherings. That means:
- Lower liquidity
- Potentially wider spreads
- Less reaction to news unless truly earth-shattering
So while todayβs gains are encouraging, donβt expect the same momentum to carry through the rest of the week. Use this time to review your positions, lock in profits if needed, and maybe even take a well-deserved break!
Happy holidays from the markets β may your portfolios be merry and your trades be bright. π
