Bitcoin solves this.
Well, Hive also solves this.
In fact, any cryptocurrency out there solves this.
A bit of an intro
Remember when crypto came around and the IRS got a little worried that they wouldn't be able to check your bank account transactions, balance and whatnot?
Well, it was very easy back then to end up cashless. If you weren't playing ball with the system, your whole life could easily stop working out without money, because banks works alongside the government - or maybe the government works for the banks? - and if the government wanted you assets frozen, the bank would comply against your comply and despite whatever argument you may yield. If the government wants you Fiatless, they can easily do so if all your money is in Fiat (big mistake by the way).
The point is, you could get your assets frozen for plenty of reasons, some of the are if you haven't paid your taxes, if you are a suspect of any crime, if you are ongoing any trial process and many more reasons. The fact is, the government can freeze your assets for any reason they deem necessary.
We all know crypto solves this issue, this overextending arm of the government can be rendered useless by using cryptocurrencies.
But now it is different. Do you know about Crowdfunding? And also, are you aware of what is happening in Ottawa, Canada at the moment?
I'll give you a long story short...
Crowdfunding and the state of affairs of Canada and some Chad Truckers
Long story short, Canada's prime minister Justin Trudeau wants the truckers of Canada to show proof on vaccination to keep working, to cross borders and to pretty much keep their job, while having some shady contradictions around the country and himself not following his own draconian mandates.
This - among many other things, including said draconian mandates across the country - led to hundreds of truckers to rise up and bring their trucks on a peaceful - this one really was peaceful - protest in Ottawa. This movement brought a lot of attention from people who are against the government's behavior. In turn, these people funded the truckers through the Fiat based, centralized platform GoFundMe.
Naturally, once the campaign got a lot of funds - in the tens of millions -, the Canadian government kindly asked the crowdsourcing private entity to disable the campaign and to refund the money to those who donated. After a week or so of drama, they are now doing so and the truckers have been left without monetary help.
This was very condensed and to the point, there are obviously tons of details and intricacies regarding this topic, but I don't intend to make this a Canadian politics related post, this is more a this would not have happened with crypto kind of post, get it?
The truckers are not moving, and will continue to protest until all the Covid mandates are lifted and Justin Trudeau stops treating the Canadian citizens like Bernard Max and Lenina Crowne.
Which in turn leads to...
Canada now regulates crowdfunding platforms and cryptocurrencies under the Terrorist Financing Act.
The emergencies powers allows banks to freeze assets of any given person that donates to the trucker protest, which is now considered a terrorist organization.
To give you some context, this is the first time Canada has invoked the Emergencies Act since it was passed in 1988. The War Measures Act had been used during the two world wars to impose controls on the Canadian economy and imprison citizens of German and Japanese origin. It was most recently used in 1970 by Trudeau’s father Pierre, to crack down on Francophone separatists in Quebec who had kidnapped a lawmaker. Almost 500 people were arrested during the period now known as the October Crisis.
Calling upon this act basically means that the Trudeau administration is coming after your assets if you are protesting or against his government.
Now now, I know this post sounds biased, but I am actually here to talk about what this means to freedom in general and to the right to protest - or to support organizations, entities or companies with your money. Deeming a protest convoy a terrorist organization, and calling terrorists to anyone supporting the protest is, well, a bit of an overreaction and it could have massive consequences.
Crypto solves this?
Well, to begin with, if the truckers had made this crow sourcing campaign with crypto maybe they wouldn't have gotten the traction and support they got, and perhaps their protest would've drowned among hundreds of other funding campaigns.
On the other side, no matter how much funding the truckers got, they would've received it all and no government or entity would've been able to shut down their funding, freeze their assets, or to threatened their donors.
Canadian banks can now freeze anyone's assets with the excuse of reviewing their relationship with anyone they suspect of being involved in the protests and they can do it without a court order, and yeah, this order comes from the Trudeau admin.
Would this have happened if they used Crypto crowdsourcing? No, not at all.
Would the truckers be deemed terrorists, hackers, state enemies and whatnot just because - and just because - of using crypto for their funding, even before getting actual support? Most likely, yeah.
Just how said on Twitter: "Whenever you hear people mention a cashless society just remember how the Canadian government froze $9 million CAD in digital payments to the truckers."
And just imagine what will happen with any government owned CBDC - Central Bank Digital Currencies, which by the way, many are actual projects to be released soon - and how much control they will be able to exert.
Food for thought, at the very least.
The good thing, and be sure there will be consequences - most likely those we are seeing right now, that Trudeau now wants to bash crypto - but still, the reaction from truckers against this one-sided decision of freezing the GoFundMe donations, is quite simple:
Is it looking good for crypto in Canada? Not that much if you see it short term, but this is incredibly bullish long term. Bitcoin is a form of standing up to the government, and people are slowly realizing that. Hopefully this starts a snowball effect in Canada and their southern neighbor... hopefully.
