I'm just being sensationalist, I don't think this is a war statement, but it is indeed a use case that governments might not like, in the short or long run.
One of the most fundamental capitalist statements is let you wallet speak for you and to support those companies in the free market.
We've see before perfect examples of letting our wallets speak for us as a political statement, such as when the American people started to buy even more from Chick-fil-a after they were tried to be cancelled just for being an open Christian institution, giving their employees the Sunday off so they can go to church and rest.
Our wallet can be the best political statement even if it's in an indirect way.
You don't have to be a National Socialist party member and donate to Trumps' 2024 campaign in order to be considered a danger for today's society. All you have to do is use crypto to support ideas or people that go against your government and voila, you are a person of interest.
Julian Assange's Ethereum fundraiser
We all know who Assange is, and if you don't know I believe you are making a mistake browsing posts on the Hive Blockchain with no clue about off-grid, anarchist, anti-government personalities. Research him, preferably using duck-duck-go.
There's a DAO looking to fight for Assange and they already have raised more than 40 Million USD.
AssangeDAO is a collective of cypherpunks fighting for the liberation of Julian Assange. The DAO aims to raise ETH in return for the $JUSTICE governance token to bid on a 1/1 NFT produced by digital artist Pak in collaboration with Julian Assange. Proceeds raised from the NFT sale will benefit Julian Assange's defense fund for legal fees and campaigning to raise awareness about Julian's extradition case. The Assange family have worked closely with the DAO and endorses its efforts to unite cypherpunks all over the world.
Personally I don't like some of the buzzwords they use in this statement but hey, what they are doing is amazing and if I had more than ten bucks in my pocket I would throw the difference at them.
But, what does this mean for crypto in general, and for the general perception - and perception of the narrative and agenda behind the governments - of cryptocurrencies.
First BTC was hacker-like, laundry service and ransom money, now ETH is an anti-government tool used to topple regimes?
I'm exaggerating, but you know how easily the public's perception can change, especially if you give them such a juicy topic like Assange and all the establishment has done in the past lustrum is demonize him.
If this idea takes off and they actually manage to do something for Julian, or if they get enough money to get the US government to turn their head towards them, I can definitely say that I am bearish for ETH. Why would I be bearish if this is exactly an incredible use case for crypto?
Well, easy. The US government will not like a community driven multi-million backed initiative to free Assange, but it will especially not like the perception it will give the free people of being able to defy the government in such a way, so maybe something along the lines of XRP will happen to the Ethereum bros any time soon, and would suck major ass.
What this means for DAOs in general
This is a great use case for DAOs, and if it works then damn, kudos for them and thanks for proving normies there are other use cases for Crypto other than buying Ape's jpgs.
The problem is, there was supposedly just going to be one round of donations, but now and since the project's popularity skyrocketed, they added another round and have other plans. By they, I don't mean the DAO's community via voting, but the devs behind the project.
That doesn't sound decentralized at all, and it actually goes against what DAOs stand for...
It could be a rug pull, it could be a scam. Maybe they started off with good intentions and now that they have so much freaking money, they want to make the funds-not-safu. But one thing I Definitely don't like and I believe it works in detriment of DAOs in general, is that the decisions are being made by the dev team and not the community via POS.
Either way, I have my popcorn ready for whatever happens, we have fun times ahead.
