I have been wanting to write about this topic for a while now and I came across this post from which inspired me to find time to finally complete this.
One thing I’ve observed in my recent airbnb operations is that more clients I cater to, the more revenue I could generate compared to long term tenants even if the duration of stay would be equivalent. Allowing shorter stays also increases the chance of me getting more feedbacks and reviews and in return increasing the number of inquiries and eventually booking. A person staying for 30 days will generate less income versus 15 different clients booking for a couple of nights each. The quick in and out of guests will get me more profit because long term visitors gets higher discounts. You can read about my recent airbnb article here.

Since I’ve joined hive blogging, quality content has always been my key focus on getting noticed, curated, ranking up, and getting better payouts. And to produce quality content often relates to creating lengthy posts full of pictures and details, links, sources and many more.
Now don’t get me wrong. I like writing articles that goes into detail. However I also have a personal endeavor of wanting to grow Hive and spread it too as many users as possible. One thing I’m sure everyone has observed is that long form content creation is not for everyone and certainly not for today’s generation. It is unattractive for potential newcomers and as people nowadays are very busy they have limited attention spans.
I want to continue with my long form blogs as it is something that I am personally into. But to attract more new users I think some new additions and key developments has to be made and that is thru short form content. On mainstream apps like youtube, many of the creators I follow today i got to discover thru their shorts. I subscribed to their channels and pages and fully watch or listen to their longer form videos or podcasts etc.
Leofinance is actually the first here with their leothreads. It gives a twitter like experience and promotes microblogging. And it actually has good mechanics on how long form creators can promote their work by just publishing a few threads. As great as it is, there has to be more. In the past we only had Musically and Vines both of which garnered mainstream attraction and many users. Then came Tiktok and others soon followed. Meta and Instagram have reels. And YouTube also now has shorts. These companies understand the value proposition that short term content can bring to their platform. There’s also money to be made as short videos/contents are also now monetized.
Not everyone needs to be a creator in Hive. Some can just be members of the audience looking for entertainment watching videos, or simply be commenting and/or upvoting with just one click. But for this to be good for the hive network we need to have a bigger audience.
Short form content is concise and direct. It’s meant to be easily understood in under a minute or just a few seconds. It is best used when we want to pass information quickly or provide core pieces of information which can be later expounded thru a link to your long form content. Another great benefit of having short form content is that it will attract more eyes and will more likely be watched/read until the end. Short form videos are also very shareable. From personal perspective, when someone sends me a link to a 10minute video I will most likely not watch it. I am sure to watch though reels that are less than 90 seconds.
Shorts are good for marketing too. It grabs attention faster than other forms of advertisement. Like mentioned above it can be easily shared, increasing reach further. Has high engagement due to its short duration of just a few seconds. It’s affordable to produce as some could just be clips taken from a longer video. And on top if all is that it is very easy to consume.
I truly hope that someone from the community would explore and develop a means to incorporate short form videos into the hive network. I firmly believe this would be a key factor to mass adoption. A game changer that is needed. There's a concern that short posts would flood our feeds with low quality content. But that doesn't have to be the case. We have voting power, we can downvote those non value adds. We can mute them or even blacklist those creators. Right now, the need to revitalize Hive takes top priority. Increasing traffic and adding more users into the platform through means of innovation is a must. Many of the the current active members would not be blogging at all if it wasn't for the income opportunity. We have to rethink how things are done. I don't know exactly how, I don't hold all the answers. But I think short videos would be one way.
