Who is Jumbo?
Jumbo Supermarket is a large Dutch supermarket chain that has been operating according to the well-known “Jumbo concept” since 1996: probably the widest range, service with a smile and always low prices - summarized in the so-called “7 Zekerheden”, the seven Jumbo guarantees.
Originally a grocery wholesaler owned by the Van Eerd family in Veghel (Netherlands) in 1921. The first “real” Jumbo supermarket was opened by Jan and Anita Meurs in Tilburg in 1979. In 1983, the Van Eerd family took over this store and began its expansion. The current concept was introduced in 1996. Today it is the second biggest chain in the Netherlands with more than 700 markets.
Why I like it there
The wide sortiment and variety is a big Plus and the store concept with its yellow base color seems bright and welcoming. You simply like strolling around with your cart, searching for your groceries. The prices are not cheap though, around 20-30% higher than at discounters but in my impression not as expensive as at Albert Heijn. We like to shop there when we are at holidays - as currently - in The Netherlands.
