I wasn't going to write one of these posts, but then I got thinking about it and I do feel it is important to set some kind of goal for yourself. Success in most areas of life can be measured by milestones and achievements. My goal is quite simple. At first you might even laugh at it. Trust me, I spent a lot of time thinking about this. Probably more than you realize, it's not something I throw out here lightly.
I've seen quite a number of people make these posts on the various Hive platforms that are available to us. Rather than writing two separate posts (which felt kind of spammy), I decided to bundle them both into one post. Especially since my goal for Leo and Hive are the same thing.
Over the past week or two we have seen many people write a post exclaiming how much LP or HP they are going to have by the end of next year. Perhaps they set some more graduated goals and broke it down quarterly or even monthly.
We have also seen posts by talking about how setting goals of reaching a certain HP or LP is a poor way to measure success. Instead the suggest that you set a goal of posting a certain number of times per week or making a certain number of comments per week. It's more about building habits than it is about building wealth.
Of course, those habits you build will eventually lead to the wealth, it's an interesting take on the whole goal thing.
Since I already post five times per week and I specifically take my weekends off so I can gather post material and relax a little bit from this hobby that has almost become a second job, posting more was probably out of the question for me.
Additionally, according to Hive Buzz, I have written 35,725 comments in my time on the blockchain. Since I have been here about five years now, that equals roughly 20 comments per day. It's actually a bit more than that because like I said, I take the weekends off, so I usually only comment 5 days per week.
That's pretty darn good if you ask me. Sure, I could up that number and say that I am going to write 25 comments per day or 30 comments per day. If you broke down the numbers that might actually be more accurate. I would bet money I comment a lot more now than I did in my first two or three years on the blockchain, so averaging those numbers out across all five years is probably a flawed method.
So if my goal isn't to post more and it isn't to write more comments, then what is it? I've been gunning for 50K HP for quite a while now. The growth of my account slowed down a bit when the interest rate on HBD jumped to 10% and I started putting all of my HBD rewards into that. It is only recently that I started buying Hive again and powering it up.
I'm actually pretty close to hitting 50K HP, so setting that as a goal would be kind of lame. Plus, it brings us back to the whole Taskmaster argument again. Ultimately, I'd love to hit 100K HP and beyond. That isn't really something I see as a goal, it's more something I see as necessary to ensure my long term growth and success on Hive.
On the Leo side of things, I might set 50K LP as a target, but again, I wouldn't call it a goal. It would just be cool to have that "Leader of the Pack" title in Discord.
I know that was a lot of lead up, but I felt it was necessary to understand my line of thinking. Like I said, although simple, this goal isn't something I settled on lightly.
My Hive/Leo Goal:
To just keep showing up every day
That's it, plain and simple. The best way to keep growing and building on Hive/Leo is to just keep showing up. With the bear market heavily upon us and crypto winter seeming to have no end in sight, it can be easy to want to give up or think it all isn't worth it.
I've been there several times in the past five years and each time we come through on the other side I am so glad that I stuck it out. We've already seen people drop off the platform. Post numbers are down, engagement is down, rewards are definitely down. It can be frustrating and seem futile at times.
Trust me, it is not. Those of us who stick it out are going to be so happy we did.
Just keep showing up! The target HP/LP numbers, target comment numbers, target post numbers will never happen if you aren't here doing your thing each week.
Good luck to all of us in 2023! It might be rough price-wise, but I think big things are in store for us! If you give up you will miss out!
