Today I wanted to talk about the mistake of saying it would be a plentiful contract season!

I hate when I jinx things! Lol
I've talked a few times on here about one of my side hustle gigs, a contract job that I got a few years ago, and ended up picking up another one recently as well. This year started off really well! I got a few shifts in a strange time of the season, winter and felt that it was going to end up being a pretty good year in terms of getting some extra cash.. boy was I wrong LOL
This time of year, springtime, is one of the busier seasons for the place. The summertime it can have some here and there but it's more spring/autumn because that's when people are hitting the grindstone in terms of working. The winter, it snows so you can already tell that it won't be very common to get people to go to a place that's not their regular dayjob to learn something, so for the most part winter is out. Then summertime people are on vacation and people don't want to be doing that extra stuff either. That leaves spring and autumn where things are usually pretty good!
This year is one of those weird years. I've had several of them at this point where I work a few times.. then nothing, nada, squat! It's how the nature of it goes, really. You can't depend on it otherwise you'll be disappointed. Then when you get several of the contract jobs at once, all of a sudden they are all calling you for the same days on the weekend. It's feast or famine that's for sure!
This is the famine part of the style. It's okay in a lot of ways because I get to spend more time at home with my son, but at the same time it's shitty because that extra money is nice! Plus I get to do some socialization, where I don't get to do that too often with work and all those obligations.
It's the funny nature of business though. There are good seasons and there are bad. It's like anything, when you think about it. Some farmers have fantastic years while other years they get absolutely decimated. The same thing happens with a business. They have crazy amounts of interest in their stuff for a year or two and then it slows down a bit. I'm at least glad and lucky that this is a side hustle instead of my full time work! I'd be a little worried if it was slow if this was my full time stuff.
I think the funny thing with it is that I got used to the sweet cash! I made some pretty good money for the year that it went off frequently. Sure at the end of the year we end up getting porked in taxes, but it makes up for it some years and other years it's not the best to have.
I bet now that I've said something about it, they are going to call me a lot for summer shifts :D because I would rather spend time outside at the beach or something!
