Whenever we budget our monthly expenses, we try to budget for most of the things which we know but there are some ad-hoc expenses which can come up and thus can dent your whole budget for the month. For example, this month I thought of investing little more because I don't forsee much expenses.

But as of today I have to spend around $200 for the tickets. I will bring travelling to my hometown along with my family in the festival and thus since the train ticket usually gets over 3 months prior so I have to book it today. Even though I have booked 3.5 months prior I could not get the straight ticket, I have to do break journey. That is sperate issue.
Along with that since my daughter has started going to school, their school are doing activities every week. That means we have to send something or the other material for the activities every week. Though it looks small expenses, but at the end of the month it does a small dent to the budget.
Now because of this ad-hoc expenses, my investment for this month will not achive which I would have hoped. And that's why having a clear understanding of the budget is quite necessary. Though we were not clear that we will be going to our hometown that's why I have not thought about that budget. But since the expense has happened I have to keep that in my budget and keep in mind of any other expenses should not happen.
Now talking about little expenses, I had to do my bike servicing this month and that also was ad-hoc and I had to pay for it which was again not too much but enough to reduce some expenses here and there. I tried to keep a miscellaneous expense column with me but when a lot of these little expenses adds up it makes a huge impact on the budget.
