I was asking around on Threads for a solution on image storage on the blockchain the other day.
The pain point is the potential disappearance of images on my post stored with the CDNs such as Hive.Blog uses. I understood that the images I upload are not going to be stored on the Hive blockchain directly. Only the text is immutable, and the images aren't.
No one can tell if that missing image might make the message incoherent on the post in the future.
Anyway, I found the Wayback Machine after some search. It is not a blockchain solution, but good enough as they seem serious in their archival work.
The image above is the archive copy stored at:
A copy of the original when I drafted this post, whose URL is:
The usage is self-explantory. Simply by entering the original URL in the space under "Save Page Now" on the site.
You can get the URL of the image file after it is generated.
The images used on this posts are now pointed to the archive URLs. I think it might be a slightly better option if immutability of the images is a requirement.
I am not sure if there is already archival done by default whenever we use images.hive.blog. If so, my worries are indeed unfound.
But happy that I learned a new way of archiving the images I used on my Hive post through this method.
