I consider my recent investment in Nespresso capsules to be a very wise long-term financial decision. And this is why...
An investment in caffeine ☕️
I received a brand new Vertuo Nespresso Machine from my parents this past Christmas. This was such a wonderful gift. I had used their Nespresso before, so I knew how awesome it was. I still wasn’t aware that it would become part of my daily ritual.
My parents had stocked me up for well over a month of once daily use, plus also having one at a frequency that translates to every other day. I recently emptied my last few boxes into my fancy display tray underneath the machine. It was at that point that I knew it was time for me to place my first order of capsules.
$1.10/Capsule 💸
I spent a little under an hour selecting all of the flavors that I thought would be the best. I had previously tried about half of these and knew for sure that they would be great. The capsules come in sleeves of 10 for $11. That means that each drink costs just a dime over $1. This is tremendously cheaper than the $4-5 that Starbucks charged per drink. In comparison to daily Starbucks drinkers, I am saving over $100/month.
The Nespresso capsules are slightly more expensive than buying bags of coffee and using my French press to brew it myself. I like the taste of the Nespresso more than the bagged coffee, which is really saying a lot since I was enjoying the organic blends that I found at the market. Nespresso’s are just much stronger and more flavorful. Plus you just cannot beat the convenience of the Vertuo.
I opted to order 202 capsules which should last me at least three months. There was an offer to receive a free large travel mug if I got 200 capsules, more on that later in this blog. I also got a double sample pack which included two extra pods for my two favorite flavors.
It only took 3 days 📦
I placed my order on Sunday, January 31st and it arrived on the doorstep on Wednesday, February 3rd. Pretty good for free shipping might I add. My mother was kind enough to deliver my package to me early this morning. I had it shipped to my parent’s address since my address has issues with delivery often.
Not only did I receive my shipment quickly, but I really like the companies morals too. They could so easily just have me trash my empty capsules. Instead they send me a free label to ship the finished capsules back to be recycled and often even turned into art!
Environmentally friendly ♻️
The Vertuo has a compartment on the side that stores 15-20 capsules automatically once they are finished. After this part fills up I simply transfer them into the provided shipment bag. I haven’t sent out my first batch yet because I still have more room inside of it. I ordered two extra shipping bags that way I will easily be able to recycle all of my used capsules. Luckily I have multiple UPS drop off points within walking distance to where I live. Recycling my capsules is a pretty effortless process for me.
8 different blends 🤤
Six of my choices were different types of coffees since I prefer a larger cup to sip on for longer periods of time. I only selected two espresso blends which were number 4 and 5. These are much smaller in size, put pack an even bigger punch when it comes to caffeine and intensity. I had mostly espresso capsules left when I placed this order, so I knew I didn’t need nearly as many of those. I did really want to try the two new ones that I ordered.
Take a look at each of my choices:
1. Caramel Cookie 🍮🍪
There’s something so comforting about the taste of caramel – like the sweet memory of childhood friends. Caramel Cookie is a caramel flavored coffee, but it all starts with the base coffee blend of Latin American and African Arabicas. We split roast the coffees in this blend – it develops the beans to deliver an incredibly rounded coffee with a soft biscuit note. Into this harmony comes the caramel flavor, adding a buttery biscuit note that’ll take you back to your childhood days.
2. Vanilla Custard Pie 🍦🥧
Vanilla flavor easing into round, smooth Latin American and African Arabicas – that’s Vanilla Custard Pie. A medium dark, quick roast of Brazilian beans brings roundness and sweetness, whilst Ethiopian coffee in the second split brings delicate aromatics to the blend and adds a certain finesse. We split roast the coffees in this blend – it develops the beans to deliver an incredibly rounded coffee with a soft biscuit note. When we add in the creamy vanilla flavor, it creates a silky, smooth-textured coffee.
3. Hazelino Muffin 🌰
Hazelino Muffin’s a smooth and sweet Nespresso flavored coffee – ideal for a morning break. It all starts with a base blend of Latin American and African Arabicas. These coffees get a medium dark split roast that develops the roundness and velvety texture of this espresso and lets the soft biscuit note glow in the cup. After roasting, we add in the flavor to hit a whole new harmony, and notes of biscuit and almond appear alongside the distinctive hazelnut flavor.
4. Ethiopia 🇪🇹
This is East African Arabica at its finest - heady florals with a gentle hint of musk wafting through the cup. Ethiopia with dry processed Arabica involves sun-drying some of the coffee cherry. This continual hand-turning to ensure even drying calls for great care. And Ethiopian farmers have used this method for longer than anyone else.
5. Peru Organic 🇵🇪
We traveled across remote Peruvian regions in search of some of the finest organic Arabica beans. High up above 3000 feet, tucked into the slopes of the Andes, we found them. Blessed with the meticulous care of smallholder farmers, Peru Organic is an elegant, fruity coffee accented by a smooth toasted cereal note.
6. Intenso 🥵
Unexpectedly thick and dense coffee, Intenso blend stands out thanks to its lingering aftertaste. Brown sugar and strongly toasted notes bring a singular signature to this dark roasted coffee made of Guatemalan Robusta and Central and South American Arabicas.
7. Elvazio 🥭🍊🍍
A fragrant blend of fine Arabica coffee beans from South America, lightly roasted to release abundant flavors, in a Coffee full of light fruity notes. With milk, the fruitiness fades to reveal a much creamier brew, with cereal and caramel notes.
8. Giornio 🌸🌺🥀
Giornio coffee first expresses toasted cereal tones, followed by subtle white floral notes characteristic of Ethiopian Arabica; this is awakened by the acidity of Kenyan Arabica. All are harmoniously combined in this medium roasted morning blend.
With milk, acidity from the Kenyan Arabica brings a smooth sweetness to the coffee.
Nomad travel mug 🆓
The main reason I ordered so many capsules at once was to qualify for this free Nespresso branded travel mug. I already had one travel mug, but wanted to have another so could use it. It turns out that not only was the mug totally free, but it also was the second largest of the four different Nomads that Nespresso sells. It regularly sells for $29.
The build quality is very nice and made out of stainless steel; ensuring that the drink stays warm for longer. The mug separates into three parts so that it is super easy to clean thoroughly. Plus the lid is extremely satisfying to press down and open up the area which you can drink through. It’s just as easy to press the top back down and seal it when you aren’t drinking it. This means you never have to worry about a spill.
Simple and effective 👍
I’m so excited to try my new capsules and it’s a great feeling to know that I have replenished my supply. Using the Vertuo is such a rewarding thing. Each time I open up the top, the empty capsule is flipped back into the holding area all by itself. Then I just place a new capsule from my glass tray into the machine. The only other thing I have to do is refill the water supply about once or twice a week, I always use my filtered water from my Big Berkey.
I’m beyond thankful for this great Christmas gift from my parents, they also got me my Big Berkey for Christmas in 2019. I am blessed to be able to purchase such a large amount of capsules at once, which enabled me to get another sweet gift with the travel mug. Plus I have the absolute best parents that anyone could ever ask for.
