Last Monday as I checked my mailbox, a very unusual envelope was in it. It was thick, white and from overseas ( and I don’t mean a Russian Gal). I figured it was some university newsletter I signed up for but then it had legal terms on it. WTF, could someone be trying to sue little old me? My heart raced as I entered the elevator and I quickly ripped the envelope open to see what was inside.
It was from the United States Bankruptcy court, District of New Jersey. In the envelope were documents for proof of claim, basically I should claim/declare what assets I had on the platform and the funds would be returned to me. That was a relief. But I was one of the lucky ones in all the crypto blood shed these past few months …well, if you count out tokens falling 90%,
I joined Blockfi in December 2020 and took my coins out in early 2021. It just didn’t feel right leaving my assets on an overseas exchange that loaned it out and paid me interest, I knew better than that.. Then I was also truly diving into Defi. All the youtubers were talking about Blockfi and celsius and I kind of felt like this time would be different, these bank type crypto companies could actually work this time.
But I followed my gut feeling during the 2021 bull market. My left 👁️ twitched convulsively at times during that bull run, maybe from looking at screens too much but I also took it as a sign that something was about to go down ( well this is crypto, something always goes up or down). So I listened to what my mind/gut was saying,” take profits now, take most of your crypto off exchanges”. And this is always the right thing to do but in a bull run, it is easy to be caught in the winds of euphoria and your dreams.
I left some crypto on BlockFi, USDT to be exact, why? The friggin stupid high fees. It wasn’t much though, maybe $3. Maybe I should claim I had $3,000 in my account……nah they couldn’t be that dumb or could they? The cost of mailing the letter out would be 10X that $3, so it is definitely not worth it for me.
I feel sorry for people who have lost money in crypto due to the recent happenings. It could happen to anyone of us. It really puts a dark cloud over the space. But one must remember, sometimes shit fails. Businesses fail, drug deals fail, governments fail and students even fail their test. But in order to win, you have to bounce back and learn from your experiences. A friend of mine lost big with Terra Luna, had most of his portfolio in it, so the lesson there is to diversify.
My left eye is twitching again at times but instead of a fast flitter it is more a slow flicker at times, maybe I am just sick. But my mind is interpreting it as “accumulate slowly and steadily.” . And that is what I have been doing.
