Australian users have been major target of crypto scam ads in recent times and a number of these scams portrayed the image of and was attributed to the Andrew Forrest, Australia Richest Man who also happens to be the chairman of Fortescue Metals Group. To stop the defamation of his name and image, Forrest has taken action to stop people from losing money to these clickbaits, particularly the one involving his image and to this effect Forrest had filed a lawsuit against facebook claiming that they have failed to create adequate measures to kick against its system being used for crimes and frauds.
Forrest also spoke ouy, saying he had made several requests to facebiik to prevent his image from being used for any form of investment advertisements but was ignored, but facebook (now meta) made a comment saying they had taken several approaches to stop such ads from appearing and has even gone to the extent of blocking the advertisers.
An initial hearing has been set for march 28 and if facebook is found guilty, it may face a maximum penalty of AUD 126,000.
